As Italian and Fan of FC Internazionale Mailand, I'm Happy San Siro (or for us STADIO MEAZZA) made to the List. Unfortunately (like you mentioned), because the Taxes surrounded that Area and the cost to rent the place, they had to demolish and build a new Stadium called "The Dome", *BUT* there's a way to maintain San Siro alive by renovating the higher stands with building like Restaurant, Gym and Shopping Stores. San Siro is part of Italian History and home of the Battle of Mailand (in Italian has called DERBY DELLA MADONNINA) between AC Mailand and the FC Internazionale Mailand. I hope this Stadium remain in Function for years to come.

Construction cost was around £248 million by 2022 inflation rates as opposed to wembley for example, which is close to £1.3 billion at the current rates. Definitely wins it's place on the atmosphere alone when it's fully kicking. 👍

Before I continuing watching this video, the Civitas Metropolitano(it was named the Wanda Metropolitano until last season due to a publicity deal) wasn't rebuilt from the past stadium, it's a completely new one and in another zone of Madrid iirc. The old Estadio Vicente Calderón which was the stadium where Atletico de Madrid played before moving to the Metropolitano was near the Manzanares river iirc and you could pass under the stadium with a car since it was in the middle of an important highway that goes around Madrid.

The stadiums blend into the urban fabric very nicely in most instances and aren't packed full of insecurity mobiles like fullsize pickups and massive SUVs. Well except for Atletico Madrid....their stadium was built over a highway 😂

Kudos for using Westfalen instead of the sponsor name.
And Johan Cruijff is the greatest Dutch football player (even very high on the global list, top 5 is far from a hot take), the greatest legend in Ajax club history (on and off the field), a local hero as well, a philantropist and the most important pundit on Dutch television. His prime as a player was in the 1970s, but his influence (and that of his former coach, Rinus Michels) is still very noticeable today. Their total football, invented late 1960s, is basically the ground work for and invention of any modern offensive football system internationally: either inspiring it or being the exact blue print for it.
And the stadium is for the majority financed by the city, which is also still the majority owner of the place.

Johan Cruijff reinvented modern football. the Dutch played 'Total Football', which means that players changed position and formation during the match. Before that, players remained in a position where they were assigned for the entire match. Johan Cruijff perfected this playing style
Johan Cruijff had made Ajax and Barcelona big clubs. He also humiliated the Spanish dictator Franco by winning 5-0 in Madrid. He named his son Jordy which was forbidden by Franco. Saint Jordy is the patron saint of Catalonia. However, Johan was of Dutch nationality and could name his son whatever he wanted.
Due to the big wins over Real Madrid, the Catalans took to the streets to celebrate, but were sometimes beaten down by the Spanish riot police. Keep in mind that FC Barcelona was a mediocre club at the time and Johan Cruijff became their hero. Not only in sports but also politically. Johan never spoke verbally about politics, he did that with his feet.
Johan had a philosophy that clubs should train their own youth players and train them in an attacking formation. Play attractive and coordinated football. His philosophy ensures that Ajax has the best youth academy in Europe and earn hundreds of millions euro annually by selling these youth players to top clubs.
When Johan Cruijf died, both Ajax and Barcelona wanted their stadiums to be renamed after him. Eventually the Ajax stadium was called Johan Cruijf Arena and the second stadium of FC Barcelona Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Old Trafford is big and iconic, but also in a state of serious disrepair. And I don’t just mean it’s old school like Lambeau or Fenway, it’s basically falling apart . Unless it gets some serious upgrades to its infrastructure, it has no place on a list like this
