  • In January we spent 4 days camping and exploring Death Valley National Park and the Surrounding areas. We camped near the tallest sand dunes in California, Eureka Dunes. We visited Ubehebe Crater, and Racetrack Playa, home of the famous sailing stones. Left the park to explore the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states, Mt Whitney, as well as the famous Alabama Hills. We then drove on a spare tire back into the largest national park outside of Alaska and camped near the lowest spot in North America, Badwater Basin. We got to view the beautiful Artists Palette and Golden Canyon. Lastly, before flying home from Las Vegas we stopped at an amazing Nevada state park called The Valley of Fire.

    Washboard roads result from a lot of use and inadequate maintenance in the form of blading the road to smooth it out. Vehicles create the washboarding.

    Racetrack Playa is absolutely worth the annoying road drive. Typically badly washboard, plus a lot of the road climbs an alluvial fan which are always bumpy.

    Nice camera work! The night shots were impressive. We were there at the end of January 2023 in the southern part-Trona Pinnacles, Mengel Pass, Badwater Basin and ending up in Lone Pine. It was crazy cold. Too bad Titus Canyon was closed due to the floods in August of 2022. Now with more flooding later in 2023, not sure when parts of the park will open.

    beautiful video and editing work! did your drone have a problem taking off from the park? I brought mine a few years back and it took off fine, but not sure if DJI will prevent you from taking off if you are within the geofence of a national park.

    Interesting petroglyph think it says that 3 warriors entered chasing mt goats, and two died from heatstroke and the remaining hunter killed 3 more goats, it is a warning to stay out of the valley, would be my guess

      That spot was somewhere along Trail Canyon road. Its in the main valley across from Badwater Basin and Devils golf course. The road heads up into a mountain canyon and there are several spots where people have camped before. We got there later in the day and alot of the spots were occupied already but they are very far apart so when we did find one it still felt very secluded. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a good trip!

    Can't fly drones in Death Valley.

    • @skunkersoutdoors5120
      @skunkersoutdoors5120  7 месяцев назад +1

      True... all drone footage inside the park for this video I got from a stock footage website and was not captured by myself. Anyone planning on visiting should know that you cannot fly drones in any national park unless the National Park Service grants a permit first. While I enjoy drone footage for its ability to show the scale and wonder of a location, some places need to be kept untouched for people to enjoy undistracted.

    Where they camped below sea level is this video is ILLEGAL. Do not do this. You can disperse camp in a lot of Death Valley Natl Park, but not in any location in the valley bottom.

    • @skunkersoutdoors5120
      @skunkersoutdoors5120  3 месяца назад

      Good to point out that anyone planning to dispearsed camp in the national park should know, and be up to date on all current rules. I believe they are going to be instituting an online permit system going forward. That campsite was along trail canyon road, far enough towards mountians to be out of the designated no camping zone that makes up the valley floor. However it may not have actually been below sea level that was just an assumption I made while editing the video

      @@skunkersoutdoors5120 I was referring to around 12:40. It does look like Trail Canyon Road. If you are more than one mile from the West Side Road, its all good. And you are right, that would be above sea level.
