Thanks for watching! I think the C Tug is a super solid cart, but some of their decisions are real head scratchers. Not sure I'd still be using it without my mods. Hope you enjoy as much as I do!
I tweaked the attachment method to my kayak using the method in your video. It works great! I did my bungees slightly differently. I used loops of cord, which gives 2X the holding force, and looks a little more neat. With hooks on the deck, you don't even need carabiners, just slip the loop over the hook. With mine rigged this way, it works on both my Hobie Revolution and my Tarpon 130x. This method makes loading and unloading my kayak(s) from my trailer way quicker and easier than the scupper carts I had used on the past. And it's much quicker than using the included strap.
That's a great idea! Def cheaper than mine too, especially if you don't already have gear track or eye bolts sitting around. The C-Tug is cool because it's hard to use it incorrectly, is easy to mod and is surprisingly tough for a bunch of plastic.
Nice mod for sure. I can personally attest to the comment of not trusting the strap alone when leaving your ctug on when transporting. I did this and the only thing that saved by ctug is my stern tie down which caught the ctug while it was dragged behind my trailer. DOH! On a positive note, that ctug is solid as after 5mi it was barely scratched.
Thanks! This is actually my 2nd C-Tug...my first one bit the dust back before I tried any mods and just had it loose in my trailer. I forgot to lock my mini-tailgate and I have no idea where it ended up. So I'm glad you figured it out before you lost it! These are too pricy to lose. And it's amazing to me the amount of abuse these can take considering they're just plastic.
Great mod! Used one on both a Kraken and Kilroy LT and it was a pain with just the strap. Not sure how I am going to find 4 anchor points on the LT, any ideas? More importantly I want to know about that trailer!!!! Wow. If you have a video of building it/modifications please give me a link. Thanks!
Howdy Gillian...thanks for watching! I would suggest checking out Todd's video in the comments below. He's using bungee loops instead of carabiners and latching on to J hooks instead of eye bolts on track. His idea might work reall well for you and he uses it on multiple yaks. I've had another request for a trailer video as well, so I'll get one done here in a week or so. I'll make sure to include all of the products I bought to make it happen too. Thanks again!
I pull a nucanoe Frontier 12 on mine.. you can use a single anchor point on each side and it works the same way as long as the bungees are tight. The 2 bungees on each side form a triangle and will keep the cart centered and prevent rolling. Have tested running over large bumps and "offroad" successfully with no problem.
I had a problem with my Mayfly, the C-Tug wheels would rub and just didn't fit the bottom contour, so I added 2 blocks of foam which caused slipping and rolling of the cart. This probably would have helped, but I just ordered the Boonedox.
Thanks for the comment! I've used it with the kickstand to the front and the rear and haven't noticed much difference in performance either way. In my case, I use the kickstand towards the rear so it doesn't hang up on my trailer. The Boondox are awesome but I don't think the gunwhales of the Kilroy are sturdy enough or conducive to mounting them. Plus I can use the C Tug for my wife's and kids' yaks too. If I were going to design a kayak from scratch, I'd build a portage system into the design from the get go instead of having to do aftermarket mods. But what do I know, LOL 🤷🏻♂️
Butch Niven you are correct, I just looked it up... It did seem more intuitive that way, but the "long time user" that suggested I purchase the C Tug said it went in the front so it would lean forward when loading and rise up when you picked up the front to move it. I corrected the original post...
Thx for watching. Yeah, I think some of that noise is due to the plastic flexing some under load. Totally normal and not a reflection on the strength of the cart, tho.
This is all explained in the video. This system allows me to use the CTug as an end cart to facilitate easier loading from a trailer. The strap doesn't work at all for that purpose so the bungees are necessary.
Kay you're a genius. I was ready to throw my C-tug away.

@@kayplainsdrifter136 Did up a video showing how I did it, and linked to yours as inspiration. ruclips.net/video/oSC6wgBVJBk/видео.html
Sorry, missed this for some reason...thanks and great work!

Great video, great ideas. Thanks.
Thx man! I'm still using it and feel like it's still better than just the strap for this purpose
Bruh, nice hat!
Only the best for the ol' KPD

@@kayplainsdrifter136 Or you could just start building trailers, sell them and ship them to us, make money and buy yourself more fishin stuff, ;)
@@gillianwhittall5117 Ha! I'll take that under consideration

Who needs the user manual when you have all of these awesome comments in YT? 😜👍🏻

Nice!
Thanks for watching and the kind word!
Do you have squeaky noise from the wheel?
Thx for watching. Yeah, I think some of that noise is due to the plastic flexing some under load. Totally normal and not a reflection on the strength of the cart, tho.
Nice 80 mile an hour gusts!
😂 Nothing but the best possible production values for my YT audience. I insist on it!
Bungy cords not necessary. Just properly tighten strap! Why don't you center wheels for less pull weight?
This is all explained in the video. This system allows me to use the CTug as an end cart to facilitate easier loading from a trailer. The strap doesn't work at all for that purpose so the bungees are necessary.
put the pads middle of the boat will sit flat pretty dumb
As I stated in the video, the point is to use it as an end cart to make loading and unloading easier from a trailer.
