Update: as of December, Canggu has gotten a lot busier and more expensive since we posted this video. If you’re looking for a quiet, affordable place to remote work from, definitely stay away from Canggu for now.

Currently Indonesian Government just launched the Second Home Visa that you could stay in Bali and also other Indonesian Islands (about 17k in total) for 10 years. I mean Bali im sure not the best in the world but you could easily explore other 2millions sq km of lands and 5millions teritorial seas of Indonesia. Happy Explore 🤸

Great commentary! Many people complain about the constant traffic jam in Canggu or Bali in general, you gave a different view of the situation.
Being a frequent visitor to Bali before pandemic and once again this July, I think you could just observe the busy hours in a particular place. For instance, change of shift for service staff results in heavy traffic around 3 to 5pm. Lunch time traffic is also common as not only tourists but many locals also go back home to eat or travel outside for lunch.
I was awake one day at 8am in Berawa Canggu and drove around looking for breakast, it was wonderful to see the quiet side of Canggu when the viral cafes and restuarants are not open yet. You could however see some side street stalls having constant customers buying local snacks for breakast on the way to school or work. There are so many sides of Bali you could explore even in busy Canggu, it is worth returning times and times again.

Bali is definitely one of the best digital nomad spots. We found an awesome little cafe in Ubud where you had to go up this narrow steep little spiral staircase and then you could sit up on the second floor balcony on bean bags overlooking the street. Not sure how but it felt cosy even in 100% humidity. 😊

very fitting straight forward update. i was there jan to July seeing the transition in real time. Seeing your review proves that bali is peaked out as far at pricing for the next 1-2 years for anyone asking "what would it be like in 6-12 months from now" Your best bet for lowered prices/traffic, go in mid January after all the major local/international holidays.

Good to see you guys back! Went to Bali at end of June just as things were picking up... 5 days in Ubud and you can see the change in tourists n nomads flocking there like multiple folds (although I think they went there to escape the incoming wave of domestic tourists going to Sanur & Kuta). And yeah, the roads in Canggu back then was horrendous, but it seems to have magically disappeared... somehow...

The flip side on staying in Bali be it around Kuta, Canggu etc sometimes you have to put a total patience living without any electricity or wifi for a day during Nyepi. And that's it. Other than that perhaps the flip side is just the occasional flood or landslides that may happened during rain season.
P.s: yeah, Uluwatu is still pretty quiet eventough the beaches were now busy as it can get, same like Nusa Dua. While Ubud now is fully packed with all kinds of tourists that were longing for spiritual healing. But Kuta and Seminyak still not as busy as it is before eventough both were also bouncing back to life again

first time i went to Bali was in 2018 and because i enjoyed it, made another 2 wks trip in September this year. oh boy, the difference. i don’t recall Denpasar and surrounding area being this dirty back in 2018. even in Canggu there were garbage bags (full of rubbish) laying around almost everywhere. instead of them building that beach path in Sanur, perhaps other more important things should be tackled first.
i stayed in Seminyak this time compared to staying in Sanur 4 years ago. big mistake. big. huge. too crowded and truth be told, infrastructure really can’t cope with the amount of cars, scooters… same in Canggu.
if you want to truly experience the island, i’d suggest visiting the more rural areas towards central-east or far west of Bali. where tourists are less and less and you get to know the locals :) in my opinion, that’s what really made my trip, rather than checking out all them cafes in Canggu (one of them being Crate Cafe - not worth the hype, genuinely speaking) or spending time at them fancy beach clubs around Denpasar.
price wise, Bali is no longer on the least expensive side of things, with cocktails in some places (most of them now) costing as much as you’d pay in the Netherlands, wine (beyond expensive), groceries however still somewhat okay.
sadly, i’m not sure whether i’d want to check out the island a third time after this last experience.
the island is gorgeous (outside Denpasar and surrounding areas), food is great, people are welcoming. but the chaos within Denpasar and surrounding areas specifically traffic congestions, garbage, poor service, is really ruining the experience, unfortunately.

I just spent two weeks there and it will be my last visit for sure. Canggu’s popularity has now killed its charm. New businesses are paving over all the rice fields and traffic is horrific. Am I the only person that remembers what it’s like to actually walk somewhere for 15-20 minutes? Does every single visitor NEED to rent a damn scooter? Do your legs not work when you arrive in Bali? It will basically be all paved over by the end of 2023 and then it will be just like seminyak; a horribly planned city with nonstop traffic and no reason to visit. So keep coming digital nomads and finish the job of killing off Canggu.
