    Wish we lived in an era where equipment like this was still being made mainstream. Miss the good old days.

    I had this deck back in 1992 and sold it 1998. I wish I had never sold it but we were all going digital at that time.

      @@marcusdolby1 Thank you. Yes, those are my songs. And I played rhythm guitar as well. Those songs are 32 years old! I am working on new music that will be released soon. I'm just always busy doing sessions with other artists. But now I'm only doing my own music I have written throughout the years. They will be released in the fall.

    Hi Marc, I recently bought one of the E-16 with remote, cables and tapes (some of them are probably 20-40 years old new ones :), but I have no idea how to listen to the tapes. (I must admit that I knew nothing about this machine I only thought that it is a player) I started to play one of the tape without attaching any other device and to it and all LEDs seem to work. Difficult to tell as I am not sure if all BARs were used at least once or not. Anyway, any advice how to listen to music using the E16? Could I just use two outs directly attached to an amp? Or any other advice? Any hint would be appreciated. Take care, Lui

    • @marcusdolby1
      @marcusdolby1  Год назад +1

      The outputs are on the back and yes you can plug them into your line level inputs on your receiver / amplifier, ie CD, Tuner, Tape inputs. Make sure the playback button is on tape, not Input or sync. If you see the VU meter dancing, there is audio on the tape.

      @@marcusdolby1Thank you for your answer. I managed to listen to the channels , two at the time. All heads, all spinning parts were dirty but now cleaned. All LEDs are working without a single exception. Fast forward does not work, going to look into it. Have not tried to record anything yet. I have not tried the remote either.

    Great machine. I run my in's and out's into a Soundcraft studio 16 channel mixer. Makes a nice affordable analog home recording setup. I use an Alesis Quadreverb GT for effects and monitor on M Audio BX 8's. Need to buy new tape though.....sticky shred syndrome has appeared. I'm in the UK and it appears the best solution is to buy tape without reels from Thomann in Germany. Unless anyone knows a better source in UK? I'm not into baking tapes as there's nothing I need to preserve which is good as I've only recently aquired everything and made test recordings. Great stuff!

      I am not sure off the top of my head, but ATR magnetics in the US might be able to help you. they manufacture new tape.

    Hi Marcus, I have an E16 I bought from Sky in London late 80’s, fully functional. With Remote.
    Have a lot of Ampex 456 tapes(used)
    Where can you get new tapes?
    Also my old tapes with stuff on them seam to stop rewind/forward and end up with a lot of gunk on the rollers and heads, Is it because the tapes are old or Machine needs to be magnetised?
    I put a new tape in (Blank) and everything works fine.

    • @marcusdolby1
      @marcusdolby1  3 года назад

      The old tapes are shedding, common problem with Ampex 456 and others. I buy my new tape from ATR, you can order from reverb or vintage king. Some people prefer RTM tape.

    • @marcusdolby1
      @marcusdolby1  3 года назад +2

      You can bake the tapes to prevent shedding. 130 degrees in a convection oven for 24 hours. Then let cool in the oven for another 24 hours. This should give you about 5-10 passes to do transfers before the tape starts shedding again. Just keep in mind the more you play them and shed oxide before baking, the more high end you will lose, so don't play them until after you bake them.
