    Translation of russian text:
"♪ Oh, these gorgeous eyes, dark and glorious eyes...Burn-with-passion eyes...How I adore you so ♪"
"Svetlana, how is our son, the first space child, feeling himself?"
"Everything is good! His development is absolutely normal. In a few hours he will be adult-sized."
"Great! We can return home. Would you like to leave your control panel for a few minutes?"
"Sure, Nikita...but please, not for very long."
"Our honeymoon journey is coming to an end, our baby is growing, our mission is a success...Svetlana, I love you!"
"Everything went wonderful! I hope for a pleasant return!"
    The very last panel:
Meanwile.. "We hope Svetlana and Nikita had a wonderful honeymoon journey, and that they will bring the first space child to us..."

I couldn’t help but open my own issue of heavy metal 2 and review it with you guys. Such an iconic issue.

Playboy sent out a few samples of Heavy Metal when it first came out to subscribers. That's how I discovered it, looking under my parents bed for my dad's Playboys. I was 15 then, and was a subscriber by issue 3.

26:49 that is an image used for a death metal album cover. The band name was Afterlife, and their album is Surreality. It's so cool to find comic images used in metal albums from time to time. Goes to show how many musicians are comic fans!

Thanks for showing these... I was 12 when I saw this, and Conquering armies was a big influence in my early artwork, a friend of mine collected these and then I started picking up issues a little later. A year later I started playing D&D and I was drawing a lot of stuff like that.

You might like to look at 'Epic Illustrated', Marvel's attempt at a Heavy Metal style classy illustrated mag, as Jim mentioned. The early issues are pretty interesting.

After you guys did the first issue I started going through my own collection. Aug '77 is the first one I have, so just a few more until I a can read along with the video, lol. I've still got a lot of holes in my collection, mind you, but then it's been years since I was actively pursuing the back issues. Decades, even, as I think I stopped when I stopped buying Heavy Metal regularly in the late 90s. Please keep going on these, though, as I can tell you there's some amazing stuff coming up!
(some of those Druillet double page spreads alone...)

The movie came out when I was 9, I saw it when I was 16, but never actually saw the magazine until my early 20s. Awesome stuff.
I remember Penthouse briefly had a comix magazine in my late 20s that was clearly inspired by Heavy Metal, though it was admittedly more heavy-handed with its content.

That Druillet/Rune comment was pretty much on the nail. The peculiar physiognomy of the early Smith Conan with the long face and exaggerated eyes is right out of Lone Sloane.

I'd like to ask the meaning of the word that's used at 45:12. It sounds like 'kayfabing', but I'm not sure, nor do I have any idea why this word would be used in this context. Does it have another meaning outside of the more general wrestling industry?
