I Now Pronounce You Body And Frame. 1955 Chevy Nomad Body Married To Rebuilt Chassis

- In this episode the 1955 Chevy Nomad is permanently bolted down to her new home. In previous episodes I had rebuilt a stock tri 5 chassis with tubular control arms and disc brakes. This new chassis slid right under the body and all the bolts lined up with ease.
With the body bolt down on her "forever home" I wanted to finish weld all the sheet metal on the car. Up until this point all the replacement panels has simply been tacked into place incase anything needed to move or be aligned. The car looked straight and sat great on the new chassis, so that meant all my "careful" measuring had paid off.
Weld it solid and bolt it down!

A lot of Work ...But look at the Outcome!!! Awesome job 👍
I truly enjoy watching you build this project. I look forward to watching this program. It's the best way to watch television.. lol
Dan your really kicking ass at getting it back together, just take your time, this is getting to be one of your best builds, and your showing that you don't have to have a big shop with a lift and all the equipment, which most of us don't have either, Great job!
@Thomas Jefferson haha thanks man
Everybody:
You can't make a car out of a roof, a cowl and a door!
Danny:
Hold my Coca-Cola.....
Not everybody said that, but not everybody can do it. Dan is knocking the snot out of it as usual.
Maybe it should be "sensible people" ~evil maniacal laugher.
Just think about the amount of work he's done this year! Phenomenal!
I like to stay busy haha
Specially if a tri5 is involved Dan won't quit till he's driving
I am impressed that you are actually taking time for proper fit and finish on this one instead of "good enough" please paint and body work this one and finish it rather than starting another project
I'm trying to make this one nice
That old Nomad is looking cool Dan. You saved it the right way! Later man ✌
Dan, this Nomad is coming together!!!!
Hang in there! I know the bodywork seems to go on and on, but look how much you've done already!!!
My mom drove us to the beach everyday in Nomad ... My dad would be in the garage with a smile ...be like they won't be back for a while ! Thank God!! Dad had the record holder 57 Chevy @ English Town tough shoes to fill!
Great job I cant imagine how many hours you already have in this project. Your ability to tackle any challange is great. The donor body and frame was a great decision.
Got a few minutes in it hahs
This thing is a Cinderella story. Great video, awesome car. Oh, and you called supper Dinner at least twice!!! Till next one ✌
Haha she's coming around
It wasn’t all that long ago that a car in the shape your nomad was just couldn’t be saved. You’ve shown that almost any old Chevy can get a new life! This is the best yet. And because of what you’re showing, I’d bet a lot of formerly no hope cars will get fixed.
Dan...your work ethic is beyond admiration and envy...Just unbelievable how you just keep forging ahead...you, Sir...are a FREIGHT TRAIN.
Thanks buddy! I try haha
Looking good as always Dan. Now all the rust is gone I hope everything goes smoothly and car come together just like you want. Good score on all the trim to finish it out. 👍😎✌️
Great build so far ! You now have a NOMAD keep it for the rest of you life !!!!!
Dan the nomad is your crown jewel . From a complete basket case to a very cool ride. A coal mine to a gold mine who wouldnt as a car guy want one.
Made my Tuesday! Thank you 😊
I belong to a number of Tri 5 FB groups here in the United States and everyone in those groups knows Dan The Man and what he has accomplished. Best RUclips Channel ever!
I'm amazed that you work a full time job, build cars, and run a you tube channel. You have a ton of energy. For this Nomad, I'd love to see a really high quality paint job on it. But whatever you decide, you are interesting to watch.
Yeah Man, all going together now...l never get tired of looking at this car - good progress
The nice thing with every project is that you get to the point where you hit rock bottom with the last piece taken off and you begin the climb up with new or refurbished parts being bolted on. Well on your way Dan!
All down hill from here haha
@@DDSpeedShop Enjoy the ride!!!
From where it was to where it is, WOW ! If I had not have watched you do it I would have never believed it :) Can not wait to see this running !!! People do not give you enough credit that is amazing. :)
Thanks buddy
I have to admit, I am impresed! Gotten over the anger about your chopping up the delivery. Much of that because it hit so close to home. I've wanted a delivery for years and years and years. Ironic that they are plentiful in your area, they are like hens teeth here. You've truly done a fantastic job in bringing that Nomad back! In the end it's about personal preferences. Obviously your choice is the Nomad, because that was truly a labor of love to ressurrect that one. I admire your can-do, stick to it, work ethic in tackling this build. You are proof that it is possible to do, what others would say is impossible, without a fancy shop and lots of equipment.
That car is going to be Amazing just look at it Now DAY and NIGHT Love IT 😁💟💟💟💟
Hi Dan, Nomad is looking awesome..from a rust bucket to something nice.. Thank you
Yep..one big Nomad body...awesome metal ...thanks
Amazing!!! I was lucky to live when tri fives we're available in good condition..
built a 57 210 lightweight in 1980,10:90 bracket car. The 396 L-78 in that car is in my 56 150 now..with a six speed and runs like new! Always loved tri fives and had a boatload over the years...I really enjoy seeing you bring these cars back to life!!!
Everyone loves a tri 5 right!
Dan,you are the master of repairing a disaster.Looking bloody fantastic buddy !!!!
And the cowboy work boots are awesome...lol.
Never once thought it was a total disaster, it takes a lot of guts to do what you do, you got a dream car you could afford and went with it
Half the viewers would never attempt a project like this, really really a nice job!!!!!!!
Time and patients on this one Dan, it is going to be one sweet ride. There is nothing like a tri 5 and especially a 1955 Nomad! I had to sell my 56 hot rod when I got orders to Okinawa. retired from the military and still live in Okinawa and miss the old 56! Now I live vicariously through DD Speed Shop. Rock on Brother!
No way. That's pretty cool. Thanks man
I love how much care and attention you're putting into the structure. It will be worth it in the long run.
Race cars gotta be tough right?
@@DDSpeedShop Haha, true enough!
Sweet work of art that don't make anymore keep up the good work dan
You have the patience of Job and an amazing skill set. Great job.
Dan use those shims on the body mount. It will fix your door problem. There is a guide sorry don't have it ready to help you shim the right one for door adjustments. Love the project. Love the work.
Impressive build… very high cool factor with the year and model too!
100% agree on buying decent Vice Grips. I literally just chucked two Chinese locking pliers in the trash yesterday because they suck so bad! 😂
I am glad you are saving her !!!!
A VIN # and a Roof becomes a wicked 55 NOMAD !!!! Love it....
55 looks so much better. Great Job!
I gotta say Dan you impressed the hell out of me on this one 35+ years in body shops and I know some really wicked body men that would have never even thought about doing that job unless they were getting paid 1000hrs at body man's pay most of them won't even work on something that old a good friend of mine who I worked with for years and worked for at one time just fixed a 39 or 40 sadan street rod that was a super nice car that got hit in the rear it had 24000 dollars of damage on it he said never again will he do another job like that he said there is two much money in late model collision work for him to be working on old cars and waiting around on parts.
Lol your friend from louisiana Rick427
I really had my doubts on this one, nice job surprising us!
Looking great bud ,I have watched u bring alot of these oh cars back to life, but I say there's something special about this one. Keep it going
This build with out a doubt is the best SAVE / TURN AROUND on any project that i have ever seen in my many many moons of being in the car world !!! The best save ever ! When you first started this i was blown away on how crunchy every single pannel was! But now its a very fine example of what can be done when a person sets there sights on fixing up a car of their dreams and saving a basically lost cause into a soild car! Well done sir! Your motivation is contagious!
Thanks man! She was a little rough to start with thats for sure haha
Glad to see you got some help from Don with his Nomad knowledge and BW with his connections with others in the Nomad world . Here comes one great build I saw no shortcuts taken building a great complete 1955 nomad.A+++++
The car is worth your efforts, will watch, wait and see what magic happens.
I don’t know how you keep warm in that garage, but your drive and energy is epic.
Kicking ass Dam!!!!, I thought you had lost your mind when you got the nomad…but you proved me wrong!!!
Getting better with every video! Really looking forward to seeing it completed! ✌🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦
Good job Dan keep going everyday makes it that much nicer
The Nomad is looking good, such a good save. Big Yellowstone fan also.
Every rust hole that you fix increases the value, hang in there and reap the rewards!
Patience is a virtue Dan.
from beat to sweet in 2 weeks . keep up the great work.
Wow!!!! Talk about a resurrection!!!!! Lol, heyyyy that would make a good t shirt also.
The car is looking great! I don't see where some say your work is sub par. I see a rust free '55 Nomad that you saved from the crusher. Just because you don't spend $30,000 on a paint job doesn't mean the car isn't great. In primer or patina, the Nomad is what most of us would drool over. Keep up the good work.
Thanks my friend! She'll.b a nice rod when she's done
Not even Frankenstein could put this car together. Great Job.
Dan’s quote of the video “ You don’t need door panels to do burnouts”
Thats a T-shirt for sure
Haha its true
Good show saving a nomad awesome good job hope seeing it finished
Love those wheels on old iron they just look right! Keep welding you will be done in no time! Thanks for the videos! Mr. Heavy Chevy might need your help!
Haha im sure he's got it covered
Man there's just something about a Nomad gasser, it's not a tangible thing easily put into words sometimes cool is just cool I guess. Plus you get the added bonus of always having a place to crash.
Best looking vin number I've seen! You did an excellent job hanging those 1/4 panels, keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy!
Nice job. Love this build. Channel is very entertaining. From a old car guy, this is going to be a nice “hot rod”.
OH YEAH! You had some doubters, just showed them a man with a vision and determination CAN get it done. Outstanding resurrection of that Nomad. Impressive work, Dan.
Dan! Your work on the Nomad, and the convertible, make great videos, and show me you are a true pioneer in auto restoration! Please keep up the great work and the history making restoration mods for all of us to enjoy and learn from. Thank you Dan!
I think you may have stated in an early video on this project that you will not do a total restoration - if I am wrong, I apologize. From the amount of effort and expense you have already put forth I predict this will be at least an 8.5/10 car. You or the next owner will enjoy the finished product.
It's good you took the time to fix the Nomad . Most people would just junk it out. 👍
You have come a long way keep it up I'm working on a 1940 Buick not as many spare parts for my Buick
Coming together looking great
Coming along nicely, keep up the great work…its a Nomad after all….
Sounds like a plan my friend. Keep it rolling.
Love Nomads man ! It may have been crusher bait , but I would be doing same as you trying to save it . It’s looking awesome, waiting for next episode
Super job! I just wish that I could hold that much enthusiasm for my personal projects! I'd have them done by now and on to another.
Just gotta stay full throttle
@@DDSpeedShop I want to but I think it's the throttle linkage that gets stuck! Lol
Looking forward to seeing big leaps and bounds instead of the last few videos of you just piddling around with this car .
Dan you are doing a great job rebuilding the nomad , and sooo fast too .
watching how fast you get stuff done i need to work more like you do so.
i put my 55 convertible hotrod on hold for a minute to do a Dan build on my black 56 belair coupe so i can drive it , and then back to the 55 ragtop build .
Dan .you are awesome you take a peice of junk and turn it into a diamond... I believe that you are the best of the best
Man that car has came a long way looking good
80K subscribers!
Good stuff for my favourite channel!!!!!
Awesome job Danny keep up the good work you are working your ass off
Dan the Man! Classic car builder extraodinair! And a "Big Atta Boy" to boot! 👍 Love the progress. Thers's gonna be a sweet Nomad burnin up the streets in Canada soon. 😎
Great content and editing, always look forward to starting the day with the latest update!
Looking good!! Coming together nicely!! Cheers!! 🤓
I can't wait for the "Franken55" to take it's first breath. Love this build!
I gave a hard time..personal taste in different cars..I hope this car turns out great..I have watched since for ever and then some..and I know you can build a car out of nothing..so even without a 10 million dollar paint job..and million dollar interior I know you build affordable.and tackle what most people won't.. to show.a few bucks and some time and patience and anything is possible..great work..sooner or later you will have a collection of tri 5 and once you have them all......you might have to get a sedan delivery to build..and I will win the lottery and come buy it..and the 47. sedan..cause I like it 2.
Coming together Nice Dan n Looking Great
You took a" throw it in the dumpster body " and turned it into what it once was. Nobody in their right mind would have done what you have done , because they wouldnt have seen how it would turn out with a little bit of work. well, alot of work. but you will be rewarded in the end.
I for sure am not it my right mind haha
Thank you for being real making real hot rods and not a trailer car cars you can drive and enjoy fyi. Bad Chad is making his own glass you need to try it
Bad chad is not making he's own he's plexiglass which is hard plastic , he has a chop up car, this car is original and real glass is available.. oem is always best when available...nice wok Dan thanks for saving it
Man, the progress you make never ceases to amaze me
Absolutely amazing how far this car has come in the last three weeks. Good job with all of it. Anxiously waiting for the next video. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I'm a 55 nomad freak myself I was wish I was there working with you in your garage.
Hey Dan, It's looking great so far. A lot faster then I thought it would. After watching all your other tri 5's.
I had faith in you when you took on this challenge, and I mean challenge. So glad it's coming together for you. It's going to hard for you to top this build. The only way to beat this one, is to find a door and build a car from that. lol
Take care and be safe.
Haha challenge accepted
I can honestly say , Dan , You surely saved this one from the grave . That "roof with a VIN" was 1 tow away from the crusher . See through , & picked clean through . Daunting was an understatement . Now ? There's a lot of people eating crow , & I'm one of them . They told me it was turkey , but I'm not so sure ! This is really coming together for you now , just like your friends finding the "they don't exist anymore" parts Jay still has a few of . Thanks BW ! Don's ! I know you took some heat over the "donor" car , but you got what was needed & still there . A lot of it wasn't there either . Both live on in this build . Kudos !
I like proving people wrong haha. But thanks for the kimd words my friend I really appreciate it
New quarter panels that's the way to go why heck she looks like a brand new car haha God bless
Great work Dan. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watchin man
Everyone of your videos show leaps and bounds forward. Looks great man
I try to keep moving haha
Like I say " don't let nothing but fear and common scene hold you back" It's looking better every episode!!!
No problems there haha
Dan your like Scott over at Cold War motors, you guys can turn a pile of rust into art, man, because that’s what good iron is , art, and it’s worth saving, even if it ends up with an electric motor, heaven forbid,
You are so talented at the metal end of this the next thing you need to master is the use of lead as filler.
Hey Dan
Loving it!
Take care😁
As Peg would say from Zip Ties ; DD Speedshop :)
Done! She’s a driver now!!
Only part you havent touched is between headliner and roof!
I just love seeing a master at work, your videos could be longer in my humble opinion, thanks so much.
