I had back stage passes to a concert and he refused to take a picture with my friend and I because I quote “there’s already enough pictures of me online”
I think if anybody had to replace John, Josh was the right pick. He is such a positive guy and I think he (contrary to belief) he fits fine. John was incredible, and I think Josh is incredible as well. He also seems to have come out of his shell a bit more. So excited to see them at Lolla :)
I miss Josh. He’s so sweet and gentle. Seems like a really good friend to have. So talented, too. He’s not just the guy who used to be in Red Hot Chili Peppers. He’s the fantastic guitar player, Josh Klinghoffer.
Anthony only hires the best looking guitarist so that he can convert them to his sick twisted way of getting them to make out with him. Hence Dave Navarro.. 😆
Josh is a cool guy, super humble, down to earth and musically gifted. If I'm being totally honest it's hard for me to see the Chili Peppers without John, perhaps simply because that's the edition of the band I grew up with (with exception of Dave Navarro) but if anyone had to or could fill the place of John, Josh is the one to do it.
One year later your statement couldn't be more true. This dude is a beast. If it wasn't John anymore. Then this is the only other choice. It's clear why they picked him.

Every record they did since John joined, then rejoined, and now rejoined again are their most popular in terms of sales. When John is in RHCP, he writes all of the songs. The other 3 are just his sidemen. That’s an actual quote from their manager. Josh doesn’t have those songwriting skills. They would have dumped anyone to get John back. John is the architect of their success. So if he doesn’t want to play certain songs, they’re not going to be performed on tour. Whether or not you like him, it’s John’s band. Full stop
Josh has the perfect attitude, along with an amazing talent, to fit with this band. Just seems so kind and mild mannered, no huge ego. I'm really happy he's found his place in this band and I think The Getaway is just a reflection of that.

I couldn't agree more. And I agree with the 'slags' coming because of comparisons with John (that I also agree...not fair...they can all do what they want, no?). I think they all seem like great guys and all great musicians. But John is a prodigy - player and writer. They went from creating a bit of a scene to BSSM and instant stardom. I knew when he left that it would fade and it did. And he comes back and they make their biggest selling album. They get equal writing credit by agreement (Chad said that in Dixie Chicks movie) but all you have to do is listen to songs they produced while he was there vs. not. C'mon, it's no contest. They were absolutely massive. Otherwise they are decent with way more selective appeals. My two cents...
PS, (for me, at least), when I saw them (3x with John, last tour with Josh), John was an absolute giant to watch. Kinda odd for the band to showcase the guitarist but that one sure did. Last tour, show opens without Anthony and the three Jam (which pretty invariably showcases guitar) for probably 10 minutes. And he's playing with arguably one of the best bass players in rock. They followed him. After last song they jammed for probably 30 more minutes; Anthony left. For me, the guy is larger than life and I have no doubt that the band know what a marvel he is. But no judgement from me for following your gut...
John and Josh have made some beautiful music together. He will take the RHCP to another plane, he's always going to have to play music that was John's and I think that takes a bit of humility and respect to do. Johns fans, he's got his own music for all to appreciate. No one can take away what the RHCP were with Hilel or John (even Navarro, one hot minute I'd chuck off my balcony but it's a moment in time that was meaningful, no matter how shitty I think it was). They've all contributed to make this group what its been.... Legendary.
When you have no confidence, you really never do stand out. I know it sounds harsh, but it's reality. I respect this guy, he is humble and knows what he in.
I grew up with John in the band and my first concert was part of the stadium arcadium tour, when i was 6, of course people may prefer John as he composed/written all of the most popular RHCP songs, and absolutely slayed them live, however Josh is a very talented guitarist and backing vocalist who is a great replacement for JF, RHCPs new album is certainly different to Californication, By the way and stadium arcadium however it's starting to grow on me. If you look at Joshs performance at T in the park this year, especially Otherside and Can't Stop you can see how talented he is and how well he is beginning to gel with the band
He is so talented and so underrated! It's okay if you miss John, he was a fundamental part of the band, but c'mon Josh is a genius on his own and he is bringing new and different things. Despite not liking the soloing thing, he stands in front of thousands of people and nails songs old Pepper's songs, he loves to play with the rest of his bandmates and people should give him some credit!

He makes an impression as a nice guy. But that’s not the energy that makes the Chili Peppers who they are which is wild and crazy but also soulful. He never fit in. Good for him that he’s now playing with Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam. His personality meshes much better with them than it did with the Chili Peppers.

I think he is doings a great job in the Chili Peppers. I love his personality so much even though he is not as striking as Flea or Anthony. He is who he is and people judge him so much forgeting that he had worked a lot. He is great and I'm so happy because he is in my favorite band.

Just saw the band in San Francisco they were awesome Josh was F hot on stage he was jamming man I was up at second floor balcony and I realized god that guitarist looks familiar think I saw him when he lived in Nevada IF he ever did I’ll never know lol
