I read Lone Women and I also gave it 4 stars but the one thing that bothers me, is that never once (that I can recall) was there any mention of any holes in her steamer trunk.
Your description of Cascade Failure is me with almost anything described as cozy. Always starts out great and by the halfway point I'm wondering why it isn't over yet. I'm so glad you reviewed Wings Upon Her Back! Been eyeing it and hadn't seen anyone even mention it. Glad you really liked it, now I'm even more excited.
You perfectly summed up how I felt about Cascade Failure & I DNF’d around the same place you did, although I might try again at some point. I loved every individual element of the book & couldn’t point to anything I disliked but it was such a slough for me too! And I really loved Becky Chamber’s books so I was pretty disappointed to not love Cascade Failure.
I always feel the same about horror books that I've picked up - I always expect them to go further than they do. Maybe I'm just not picking up the right horror, or maybe if I did then I would think it was too far 😅 it's a hard line to find.
Yeah exactly! I'm always so nervous to pick it up and then I do and I'm like "oh... that was fine?" I think it's like movies -- I can do slasher or monster horror, but I cannot do paranormal ghost/demon/possession horror.
Oh, you picked up Diabolical Sword, it was me who mentioned it to you. Shame you didn't love it, I absolutely did. And the second book _even more_ as it ramps up the stakes in more ways than one. The whole sentient sword thing was such a total winner for me, and it turned into an immediate catnip factor for me, after reading two other book/series' with one in one year! I'm chomping at the bit for book 3 - but there has been no news yet 😿, boo hoo! Hopefully you've read things you enjoyed much more since then. TFS 🙂

I just read 7 of the Lemony Snicket books in February for the first time and loved them. I'm intending to finish them soon.

I didn’t read A Series of Unfortunate Events as a kid, but I think I’ve read it twice as an adult lol. Such a fun time!

I think about rereading A Series of Unfortunate Events sometimes, core childhood memories there haha
lol mine are like 12-20 memories - I guess technically childhood but not really
