I did not realise how much I needed a "Patrick's Dad Explains Lacrosse (And Why Its Great)" video until this video kicked off
I thought he said "Macross" at first, and I was shocked at the idea that Mr. Willems was a fan of unedited Robotech. Oh well...
Patrick's Mammy is Irish, that means that she's aware of Hurling. Hurling makes Lacrosse look like field Hockey
I actually heard the same thing
@@JJ.McCorley Depends on where the lacrosse is played. Midwest lacrosse like in Michigan is played in a style much closer to ice hockey. Much more checking and brawling.
This comment aged perfectly well, I'm shocked
"reloads his arms, like they're guns."
😂 I literally did a spit take.
Chance Torrez between that and "I'm pretty sure he runs across the entire country of China in this film"
*YOU CAN'T FIGHT THE FRICTION* intensifies
SO EEEEEEASE IT OFF
BattleUp Saber *Mission Impossible Theme intensifies*
Do Edge of Tomorrow and Why It's Great, because it is criminally underrated.
Wish that movie would get a sequel. Awesome military science fiction and the best Contra video game movie. >_^
I honestly don't know why that movie wasn't a box-buster and word of mouth didn't make it one of the best sci-fi releases that year. the screenplay was smart, the action was good, and it was probably one of the more satisfying films to come out.
Genome Soldat it is getting a sequel
E2ESQUARE that movie was Great
Nelson Smith bad marketing including not really knowing how to name the movie ...
So, by the Tom Cruise running scale, Fallout is a 6/5, right? Because honestly, of all the incredibly impressive stunts in this series, that one long shot of him sprinting made my jaw drop the most.
"I'm pretty sure he runs across the entire country of China in this film."
You're more right than you know. I was living in Shanghai at the time this filmed and was released, and there is a truly hysterical moment where Cruise is running in Shanghai and then, in the space of one cut, teleports forty miles away, still running. They clearly meant it to still be Shanghai, but there aren't canals there, and the area he was shown running toward (there's even an accurate map shown briefly) is nothing like as picturesque as where he teleports to.
It's amazing how much your parents are supportive of your passion. You're incredibly lucky.
Also I can't wait for you to cover Fallout.
*BONUS*: Start the video at 15:43 > pause> start playing it on 0.25 speed> see Henry Cavill's beard grow in a magical manner while he's reloading his fists > keep replaying this moment in confusion.
Don't forget that his sister is completely game, also!
Can't find the mysterious growing... beard... I was looking at his mustache!
Anyway, I just kept listening to "Henry Cavill has a mustache" at 0.25X speed until I fell out of my chair laughing, sooooo ... thank you.
NEVERMIND TOTALLY SEE THE MAGIC BEARD NOW.
has a mustaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccchhhhe an' he reloads his aaaaarrrrrrmmmmsssssshhh
His reload his shirt with a pocket as well
Patrick, your parents rock.
The Opera scene in Rogue Nation really is a work of Art!
Amen
Now that Every Frame a Painting retired, you’re the best movie essay/commentary person out there 👌
Love PHW but have you seen Movies with Mikey from Filmjoy? If you haven't it's great, check it out.
DH Shawon
Check out Lindsey Ellis
She is better than him
all are favorites. love them!!!!😀😀😀😀
Si Long I haven’t! Thanks for the recommendation. I also suggest Rossatron, he’s pretty good as well
arnold arun I’ll check her out. It’s always nice to find new creators
I have never seen one of these films but I get the feeling a marathon is in order.
Simon Pegg dressed as a British Police officer at the end of 5 gave me the Hot Fuzzes.
I love that this series portrays Patrick as a movie-obsessed maniac. Glorious.
"...and he reloads his arms like they're guns!" haha! Loved this video so much!
The movies kinda are connected, from 3 to 6 there is alot of care about the continuity:
Benji from MI3 returns with a bigger role in MI4
Ethan's wife from MI3 is part of the subplot of MI4(and she is in MI6)
The Syndicate from MI5 is teased at the end of MI4
Jeremy Renner's character from MI4 has a big role in MI5
Not to mention...the mission from MI 1 where Ethan, Luther, Claire and Kreiger break into Langley to steal the NOC List is referenced by Alec Baldwin in MI5, which I wasn't expecting!
The characters, sure. But the plots, not so much. Just the actions of Ethan in Kremlin, being used to curtail him in Rogue nation. Thats the major story connection i can think of.
Jeremy Renner does nothing in MI5... he seems to be there... just because he needs to be there as he was part of the team...
Hugo Auditore in fallout, the white widows mom is Max from the first movie
True but characters still randomly disappear like Paula Patton, Maggie Q, Johnathan Rhys Meyers and Jeremy Renner in the recent film.
even though mi:2 is a bad movie it does have one of my favourite lines in the series "it's not mission difficult mr hunt, it's mission impossible, difficult should be a walk in the park for you" :)
Ryan Law I think I remember that being in the trailer for M:I:2.
I enjoy Mission: Impossible II. It went into a unique direction and the action scenes are great.
At least it had good hair and that metallica song.
MI2 is better than Brosnan's Bond movies except for GoldenEye and maybe Die Another Day lol.
I agree, all the MI movies have similar plot story. Ethen Hunt goes rogue, he runs to much, everyone praise Ethen as this awesome guy except for his boss, his bosses doesn't trust him and goes after him, and gets betray by a friend. MI 2 is good because it takes the movie into a different direction. His friend betrays him before the movie starts, Ethen Hunt for once he doesn't go rogue, his boss goes all out M and makes him work in his mission and trusts him, no one praises him, instead they show how great he is with his action. I think MI movies have great action scene. But I seen the TV series and I think this movies takes away from the series. I still think the movies are good, but not great. The only way I really could enjoy it to it fullest, if I think it as Ethen Hunt movies not Mission: Impossible. Because it has so little to do with Mission: Impossible series. Mission: Impossible tv series are more of Ocean 11 kind of movie, and I feel that Ethen Hunt is more of Jason Bourn mix with James Bond kind of movie.
Mission Impossible Fallout gets a 5 for running.
I think the greatness of Mission: Impossible 3 isn't talked about enough
Edge of Tomorrow is one of my favourite movies ever. I've seen it at least 5 times and it keeps getting better.
Watching this video 2.5 months late, I had to pause in the middle of the MI3 segment to say this:
Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the greatests actors of all times.
Much as I get the complaints about MI2 I love the hell out of it
I still think Ghost Protocol is the best in the series, although Rogue Nation has one of the best motorcycle chase scene of all time.
Just another random person on the Internet Then Fallout came and went “screw the best motorcycle chase. Here’s a better one.” 😂
OK now you need a time travel plot to this series. Multiple Patricks and a convoluted timeline
I'm glad you love Rogue Nation, I came outta that movie like "holy crap that was brilliant!". It's weird, but I think it's sorta Spectre but not shit.
Heartily agree, Spectre is the flop attempt to Patrick's gift wrapping movie concept
Yes, it was such an awesome surprise which made me realise how much I like this franchise, everyone was doing a wank job over kingsman saying "that should have been the bond film we should of got!" When all I was thinking that Rogue Nation should have been it instead of Spectzzzzzzz.
Spectre got wrectred
Spectre was just Skyfall all over again, but boring
As of 2019,the only good movie in Craig's Bond series is Casino Royale.
Brian De Palma has so many great underrated films: Dressed To Kill, Body Double, Sisters, Femme Fatale, Blow Out, Carlito's Way. Check them out, people.
sifat shams he's one of the great. Mission Impossible is one of the prestige series now.
BLAIR M Schirmer
Come back when you know what you are talking about. Meanwhile let the adults talk.
CARLITO’S WAY
Phantom of the Paradise fucked me up when I saw it as a kid
OMG, Alec Baldwin's monologue about Hunt is one of my favorite movie moments of all time.
Absolutely..... The entire movie he is shown as if he hates or despises Ethan Hunt but deep down he knows he is the best agent he has ever encountered in his life.
Brilliant writing that
DUDE you made my heart smile with this video.
Best action series.
-- AMEN to that
OK, here's a new reward level for the Patreon: Monthly Whiskey and Lacrosse Story outings with Patrick's Da'.
I think Fallout officially has the best Cruise running scene.
Man, I love MI3, I love even more Ghost Protocal, hated the second movie and kinda like the first one... but IMMEDIATELY PAUSED the video because I didn't watch the fifth and you start saying that it's the best MI movie. Good God. How did I miss that.
Mission Impossible, the franchise that somehow gets better with each sequel film.
Meh, the latest one wasn't as good as Rogue Nation
@@SonofSethoitae But it was
@@arushh42 Nah
@@SonofSethoitae Fallout was better than all of the previous movies.
@@tiaaaron3278 How? It was overlong, reused the villain, and relied on audience nostalgia for previous movies.
"You really didn't have to," had me rolling. Fantastic video, Patrick! Keep up the awesome work.
You left out that the MI movies give Jeremy Renner more to do than all the Avengers films put together. We need more Jeremy Renner.
Nelson Smith I'm hoping that he gets something good in Infinity War 2 and doesn't die.
@@lawrencecalablaster568 He did.
THOSE are the Brian De Palma movies you cite??? Carlito's Way! The Untouchables! Scarface! etc! Lol, just ball-busting, great channel- great show, keep it up homie!
Yeeeeeeess I've been talking up this franchise for years
Honestly Patrick, I have had a delightful movie analysis night, several episodes of FilmJoy's Movies with Mikey and then 3 of yours made me realise you two really are amongst the very best film related youtubers out there.
If you want even more film related RUclipsrs to dig yourself into, I highly recommend Lindsey Ellis, CineFix, Folding Ideas, Just Write, Lessons From the Screenplay, and Overly Sarcastic Productions are some of my favorite.
Lindsey's long essays are her best videos. Usually goes in-depth of the behind-the-scenes stuff and the history behind the film and is heavily focused on themes and cinematography.
CineFix has a lot of "list" videos but they are mostly videos they use to show some of their favorite scenes, movies, etc, and why they like them so much.
Just Write reminds me a lot of Movies with Mikey, but has more of a theory approach rather than the more personalized Movies with Mikey. Usually focused on storytelling rather than film techniques.
Lessons From the Screenplay really reminds me of Every Frame A Painting if you were into that channel.
and Overly Sarcastic Productions is less of a film channel and more of a story/mythology channel, but their Trope Talks videos are fantastic and easily applicable to film.
Also, MovieBob. Especially his Really That Good series. (Similar to MWM.)
Cedric Wublin MovieBob obviously has knowledge of the craft of film, but he is way too abrasive for his own good, and often times sounds like he's speaking out of his ass.
Love some of his videos, but I think his Really That Good video of Spider-Man 1 & 2 really highlight the problems I have with him.
Thanks, already subbed to all but Just Write, and I'll be checking them out right now. Cheers!
Ryan Mitcheltree I haven't found that at all. I generally think he has a deep understanding of the film industry, story structure, comics, and fandom. And that he takes genuine care to be sincere and thinking about other people's perspectives. (I.e. Apologising to us non-Americans about talking about 9/11 again and explaining his reasoning for why in the Spiderman video. Or talking about how he held back from talking about Snyder, and he rewrote the piece to take the focus off him because of how shitty it must have been to lose a child.)
But if he's not for you, that's grand. Each to their own.
MI7 should be called "Old Man Ethan"
Schon F
Yes!
Everyone is suggesting old man versions of everything
Or Mission Impossible: Roast Protocol and the entire movie they just insult Ethan
Or, "No country for old Ethan".
Hunt for Ethan (basically john wick 3, world wide wanted chase)
MI3 will always be my favorite precisely because of Philip Seymour Hoffman.
YES!! I've been looking forward to this video for a while, and it did not disappoint. This was fantastic!
These movies are always a joy to watch; thanks for hyping me up for the upcoming release of the new one. Also, your parents are wonderful yet again.
Can’t wait for 6. Loving this series sooo much. Your channel is my favorite.
That out of context Baldwin line had me giggling
Great video Patrick. I love all the Mission: Impossible movies (except the second one, that was kind of forgettable). My favorite part of the franchise is how lately Tom Cruise does mostly all of his stunts (especially in Rogue Nation where he actually was on a plane taking off).
Here’s my ranking:
Ghost Protocol (9/10)
MI III (9/10)
Rogue Nation (8/10)
Mission: Impossible (8/10)
MI 2 (4/10)
Patrick! Your 'explain why it's great' videos are by far my favorite and the best videos you make! Keep up the great work!
i absolutely love these videos, especially this one and the F&F breakdown, celebrating the often overlooked genius of action block busters ! How much thought you put into the breakdown of each film is amazing and this format is just hilarious :D Keep up the good content, Patrick :)
Man, your parents are delightful. I’m loving this ongoing saga.
i kinda agree, i end up watching all these flicks about once a year somehow and they're fun every time .
Fallout really broke the cycle in a lot of ways. It was the first time a MI director returned, it was the first time the leading lady from the previous film returned as a lead (GP doesn't count as Julia only had a cameo in that and wasn't a lead), and it was the first time one of the films felt like a true sequel to the previous film. I love it and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
I think Ghost Protocol is the best one.
That's just a fact.
The Fidget Spinner Movie No it's not
Connor McCarthy
Yes, it is.
Winston Shih
How? It's a very villainous villain with a very risky motivation that adds the necessary stakes to a story this grand and epic.
Exactly! Ghost Protocol felt like it had a bigger scale and richer story.
I love this series so much!! Patrick, you're one of my favorite channels and I'm so glad to see your content in my subscription page!
Putting your parents in your videos is actually genius! Being a kid with overflowing passion, not knowing where to unload it is imho what makes us filmmakers. It's the exact same situation when I visit my mom...
Patrick you're one of my favorite people to follow. Thanks for your hard work, and fun content, and all around coolness.
I love these movies so much. Thank you for this. The running ranking had me in tears. Also your mom’s line delivery is Oscar worthy.
Honestly the best series summation ever. Much respect to the unseen and often under appreciated amount of work you had to put in to make such an in depth piece. Thank you for your work. As a filmmaker, pieces like this help me to understand what the viewer appreciates. Well done sir.
I looove this video so much THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS.
I feel the M:I franchise is vvv under-discussed in youtube film circles so thank you for giving us Cruise fans the content we need
Just watched this entire "Patrick Explains" series from beginning to end in one sitting and it was awesome. Really enjoyed these videos and can't believe I have to wait a couple of months to see another haha. Great work!
I honestly love MI 2. It's so over the top and I love every minute of it.
I love these videos! And the recent Mission Impossible movies have indeed been amazing.
eathan hunt rivals harry tasker in the crazy department, i mean harry rode a horse inside an elevator and then tried to jump across to another building on said horse
This is seriously a masterpiece. Patrick, I’m not sure how you do it, but please never stop.
Oh so glad to hear that we will be getting another writing video!
Man, I have been so excited to see this video! Thanks! The Burj Khalifa and the Opera/Orchestra set pieces are such fucking delights. What a dream. I have to rewatch this movie series.
I love this videos! Every time you talk about a movie series I feel frantic 😄
Amazing job Sir.
love this series. your parents are awesome.
Mission impossible is an amazing series
When you said there was going to be a MI video "next week" I didn't expect it so soon. I love all of your videos. Keep it up.
Love that you are appearing on the slashfilmcast more often now. It's been my favorite movie podcast for about 5 years now.
This is the best one yet Patrick !!
Your videos with your parents continue to be a highlight of an already consistently great channel.
I LOVE YOUR DAD'S SCENES!!!
Thank you for the amazing video.
Appreciate the frequency of videos man
I love this series (as well as everything else you do) but this series in particular makes me excited about movies like almost nothing else does. I got extra excited about the Fast and Furious series when you talked about them and this one makes me want to watch all of Mission Impossible again, yes even MI2 because c'mon John Woo! Your enthusiasm is contagious and I love your amazing positivity, even when you talk about things you don't completely like which is something I feel is rare in this increasingly toxic environment!
This is my favorite videos you do keep up the great work
Thankyou sir for making this video. Its really cool to hear your opinion on these movies. And i love the details you mention, like how its shot. And why practial stunts are inportant. Greetings from a guy of the Netherlands.
Catching up on all your videos-just discovered you. What many people miss about the series, I think the Blank Check guys pointed out, is Ethan is haunted by the loss of his team from the beginning of the first film and this informs his obsession with keeping his team/friend alive at all costs-while completing the mission.
Thank you. I share this passion for mission impossible.
I've just recently discovered this on-going series. I can't get over the kinetic energy you exude while boring your defenseless parents to tears (or into the arms of Morpheus, as was the case here). Also, I can't stop envisioning their off-screen (non-) reaction to your rant, which amps up the entertainment value to a gut-bursting degree. Thanks for this idea and even more for the flawless execution.
That scene with your dad talking about Lacrosse transitioning into a dream. That was the cherry on top of this RUclips video sundae. Great stuff man. It's probably about time I got around to watching Rogue Nation.
I went back and watched Rogue Nation after I saw this, because I didn't realise Fallout was a direct sequel and I want to be prepared for opening weekend, but I was so blown away by how good it was. Normally I'd be getting worried about a franchise overextending itself by movie six, especially an action franchise that has to keep getting bigger with each instalment, but I genuinely have no doubt Fallout is going to be one of the best movies released this year.
I love these types of videos keep them coming
I already knew that this series is great, but thanks for elaborating.
I finally saw all of the MI movies
I can now finally watch this video.
I AM SO EXCITED
Amazing stuff, as always.
Patrick, a little masterpiece. Thank you for this. I never in a million years thought I would sit through twenty minutes about Mission Impossible but … I would have gladly sat through twenty more.
You were right and Covenant and you're right about this! I was having these exact discussions with my wife in the last year. So glad you're fighting the good fight!
I agree with everything you said. Mission Impossible is probably my favorite movie series, and you explained all my thoughts so well.
(And Why It's Great) is my favorite series on RUclips. keep up the good work! P.s. I agree with pretty much everything you say in this film. When i saw the trailer for MI: Fallout I got so excited that i had tears in my eyes.
Mission Impossible: Fallout after watching this video: “wait till you get a load of me”
your parents seem so sweet :’)) i love your content man. keep up the consistency!!!
I doubt it's his parents. Probably actors
I loved, LOVED the lacrosse speech. He acts! He writes! Your dad is a veritable double whammy
Loved it. I'm actually gonna give this franchise a fair chance.
gosh your essay is my favorite!
I've never really gotten into these movies but this was a great video. I'm going to give (some) of them another shot.
What if in the final movie, the series comes full circle, and just as it started with the protagonist from the show turning heel, it ends with Ethan becoming the villain? I know, it's a pretty radical suggestion, but as this video points out, Ethan's only really defined character trait is that he's fucking crazy, so is it really that big a leap to believe he could go bad? Especially, as Henry Cavill points out in the new movie, after being disavowed so many times. Then his allies from throughout the series have to come together to take him down.
It could very easily go very bad and piss everyone off, but it could also be an incredible way to definitively end the series.
This. Would. Be. Fantastic.
The series could go on, following a protege introduced in the last Hunt movie, who can only obtain the mantle of protagonist by defeating his predecessor.
Boring Centrist Well... The TV show was always a Team Thing... What if there are no protegé but a team he slowly constructed and that would become is doom because they are so good, they don't even need him anymore. Defeating him, surprising him by their overcompetence over his.
That’d be pretty cool. I always liked the idea of Isla Faust taking over after Ethan retired but I think actually ending the series on a high is something no movie franchise has ever done (on account that none of them are actually over lol). But seeing Ethan become somewhat of a villain I think is the direction MI is trying to go. Here’s hoping whoever writes the last film can pull that off!
Kevin Stevens speaking of villains who is the villain in mi:fallout? is it henry cavill's character? is it solomon lane again? is it henry cavill's charcater's boss? is it vanessa kirby's white widow?
Yes, that is a big leap. Ethan is crazy, but he's inherently a good person. He's not crazy because of his perspective or viewpoint, he's crazy because he doesn't complain about all the shit he has to do in these movies.
You must review Edge of Tomorrow! Criminally underrated film!!!
"Henry Cavill reloads his arms like guns." That's the best! I never noticed that. I will never be able to un-see that. But that's okay with me. haha
Hi! I love your channel! Thank you Patrick!
Absolutely! Best serious. Very meta too. The team has become rag tag under appreciated underdogs just like the movies themselves. Great analysis!
Great Video
Was really hoping to hear your Top 5 Villains in that list!
