  • We're doing our best at a double-blind ligature test to try to find out if ligatures matter, and if so, how much.
Let us know if you hear a difference, what difference you hear, and which one you like the best. We'll reveal what each one was in a couple of weeks after we get some feedback!

Things i noticed were that he seemed to be really fighting that horn, new reed? Makes me wonder if the stiff reed interfered with impressions. Another thing I thought about is ability to precisely duplicate reed position between ligatures, which can really change the difficulty and brightness of the sound with small changes. I also was completely tickled that after the test he sat there for the last 3 minutes blindfolded for no apparent reason :).

Really enjoyed the test. I have no idea which was which but there was a huge difference. It sounded like he really struggled with one or two and sounded good with the others. I listened with a very good set of headphones.

Thanks for the feedback! I (Dave) agree. I was wondering if it would come through in the recording, and I was surprised that I heard more differences than I expected to. Still subtle, but definitely there in my opinion.

Great fun guys! I could not hear a difference on my computer with cheap earphones i probably
saved from some airline flight. Thank you both for doing these demos, because I am a gear nerd
    and always enjoy this stuff.

Thanks Bob! I listened on nicer headphones (Dave) and I could hear a difference, but it's definitely subtle. Thanks a ton for listening, and your feedback - it was definitely fun to make.

Nice, so for me as below:
    1 is darkest
    2,3,4 felt similar medium bright
    5 brighter
    6 brightest.
I enjoyed 5&6 and would love to try them out myself. Sorry I don’t know which models the numbers are, but I would think the darkest is the Rovner dark. The brightest one probably has least touch points, medium brightness could be ones that was fully wrapped in metal

The 6th one liked him more then the rest. The 3rd was close, but his sound was cleanest on the 6th. Quite possibly it was the vandoren? But good job to him. Awesome message as always Dave. Cheers guys!
