20 minute video with sub-sections, showing a beginner how to use a smartphone to make calls, send texts, customise the phone, use apps and keep it secure.
Really helpful Nancy, thank you for uploading. At one point there is your phone number and at another point other people's contact details, I hope these are fabricated in some way so that no one receives unwanted attention. I am ancient of days and about to have a smart phone - your video encouraged and empowered me, thank you! :)
As this is a long video, please use the following timings to jump to sections of the video. 0:16 SIM card and buttons 2:07 Doing things with taps, swipes and long press 3:15 Screen brightness, wifi and a handy torch! 4:35 Making calls and adding numbers/names to contacts; sending a text 9:35 Using the camera 10:28 Use your picture as a screen background 11:26 Add a clock to your homescreen and change the size of text 13:02 Trying out applications (apps) 17:05 Keeping it secure 19:30 Staying safe
Thanks Nancy, that was a very clear explanation I have had this moto G for a year now and always meant to learn more of it, what with lockdown at present there is no more excuses for me is there. Didn't know about the press and hold function, that is going to be usefull.
@@ijnet9247 Thanks again Nancy, I figured out most of the things I need to use it for, answering mine is a swipe from left to right, you would think there would be a standard way to answer a mobile!
How do you answer!!!! When my friends call I have to wait until the phone stops ringing and call them right back. Also I can hear them but they can't hear me. Is there a mute button that I pushed by accident or is there something wrong with my phone?
Hi Elizabeth, sorry it's taken me a long while to respond. I'm just surprised this 4 year old video is still getting views! I hope you figured out your problem already. It's a bit tricky to answer without knowing what your phone is showing when a call comes in. There are volume buttons on the side which may also give a little cog icon for sound settings; it may be your volume for calls isn't high enough. There is a mute button in the call screen (microphone icon with line through it) which may have accidentally been tapped. Good luck, keep well.
The word "BASICS" include the function "HOW TO ANSWER THE PHONE". Unfortunately, this eluded which is very irritating. In fact, you spent so much time on other features but not "HOW TO ANSWER THE PHONE". which is not seen on my Smartphone so, at this point if find it a useless phone. Perhaps you stop wasting people's time till you understand the meaning of the word "BASICS"
Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it. I will do my best to edit the video to include more on this fundamental feature. Bear in mind that these features do change all the time and may be different for different phones. I tried to make clear that the guidance is for one specific make of phone. It's now somewhat out of date so time to revisit the whole thing, I reckon!
Thank you Nancy. This tutorial was very easy to understand and you are clear and articulate to understand.
Thank you much Nancy. This is so very useful to elders and people who are stepping into the Android world from the older key pad phones.
Also, really nice accent!
Excellent tutorial Nancy. Clear and concise. As a long time iPhone user I found it very helpful. I’m amazed it’s not had more views.
You have a pleasing way about you. Calm, clear and articulate.

This video is not a waste of time at all. Much information and clearly given. I suggest you refer to the manual for your phone.
