I've just bumped into this excellent video Tim. Just to add a bit of information. The locking of the barrel release cord (video 6m 20s) happened when there was a lot of twist in the main tow-line. This resulted in the barrel release cord becoming twisted on itself at the main towline ring as the twisting was transmitted through to the barrel cord "v" at the towline ring. When the HG pilot tried to release with the one barrel that they had on their chest release setup the twisted cord locked on itself at the towline ring. The pilot was unable to release the other side of the cord as there was not a second barrel so could not easily get rid of the towline. This resulted in an incident report and an advisory from the BHPA that the barrel release setup must be able to release from both sides of the chest. Hence the dual barrel release which you sell.
Having seen the release demo first hand (and nearly getting a black eye for the privilege) I have to say it looks great, I was always a bit nervous about a great chunk of metal on my chest from the traditional release. This is a lot sleeker and simpler.
Hi Tim good to see you back in the land of the living big guy! The double release is still being made and sold in Germany. By Dirk Sobald. Because everything German need to be DHV certified. The barrel releases I've seen being flown here have a folded piece of mylar sewn into it, so it can be released without tension. Anyway you guys selling this other release?
