Riot has an invisible elo ranking that works just as boxbox said, which stay pure.
It then has LP on top that have a strong trend upwards built in so every reset feels like a new climb up a ladder.

cuz they get mana regen and flat stats, you dont have to worry about taking care of both, which you normally have to, just get dmg multipliers augments and items and its all set
