The opening playfully mocks BD's early shows and newbie talent and primitive style. Thin, disjointed arrangements, off the line from the left, the simplest of rifle spins, marchers who forget to step off the line and run to catch up, drill sets that have to realign because the point men in the front change position. And then, the metamorphosis begins.
I was there live as a Cadet alum and I will say this is the best live performance I’ve ever seen and I will never back down from that. The Victory Run was actually better because they were just playing around and having fun but parts were cleaner and the hits were out of this world.
Nathan I did the same. It was truly unbelievable how good they sounded. I was in disbelief. I mean I’ve watched BD for years, but 2017 was probably the best ever.
Yo I’ve seen this show probably a hundred times now, and I’ve always been in love with it but for some reason it just hit me like it brought a tear to my eye just seeing this
Dude I went there for my first year in marching band and I didn’t have a clue what DCI was at the championships. But I’ve watched and watched dci corps and I’m freaking addicted to dci that I’m planning on going to dci in a few years. But one time I looked up a dci Corp I found you and your really interesting and really good as a trumpet and etc instrument player. I’m a clarinetist right now but I’m working on trumpet to be in dci within the next few years. And now that I know you and what dci is I wish I could go back to that day and meet you😁 I didn’t know how exciting dci is and I want to relive their performance in person. I hope to meet you and the blue devils again
One solid theme Chandler incorporates in the show is the evolution of the sophistication of BD's productions, over time. The beginning of the show depicts BD's early arrangements and drill-- thin and lacking confidence. Then, the arrangements get more sophisticated as the show progresses to present day. But possibly the most astounding element in this show that augments this theme is the casting of people of color in the roles of soloists, displaying diversity, inclusion and opportunity in the organization-- a strong philosophy and culture. The delicate liquid-jazz flugel horn soloist, the gymnastic trombone soloist, and Javier on trumpet. And not just any short solos. These are the most exposed, extended and difficult solos of all time, in the activity, ever. The impossible solos were delivered perfectly, consistently, every single show. Metamorph was utterly dazzling in its thematic complexity, and one of the profound achievements in the art form.
@@bigtupa5613 Diamond anniversary-- an American tradition to apply a gem stone or material to each big anniversary. Diamond in the rough when they started. Pressure creates a diamond. They play the lyric, "We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky" and "Shine bright like a diamond".
Impressive show, but if I hadn't played trumpet before I feel like I wouldn't have enjoyed it quite as much... I prefer Coats for entertainment and Crown for power
One aspect of entertainment is meaning. The meaning behind the show. The Bluecoats show was allegedly about the accidental and unlikely marriage of progressive rock and Bob Fosse movement. But it went nowhere-- which you could tell the ninth time people came running down the ramp popping their bowler brimmed hats. Fosse has a wide array of styles, but only one of them was shown. The ending was the same as the beginning. That's not "entertaining", that's just simplistic. The Blue Devils' show was a 60 year retrospective on their diamond anniversary, with butterfly larva transforming into butterflies, taking flight and ascending as this corps has done from humble beginnings. That's meaning. That's depth of concept. That's why it took first place. Not because of some hornline having more "power". The power is in the concept.
beautiful, im in 10th grade and ive been recommended for spirit of atlanta DCI, but ill think ill hold back, the audition music is 30 bucks its self and my parents would be willing to pay that and 75 for the audition
I think it might be symbolizing their early start in bd shows and how not everything was totally perfect(?) Either that or they wanted to differentiante the drums from the brass lol.
going out on a limb here, but I think its supposed to symbolize how the blue devils was a gem compared to the other groups, how it was different, a gem that would grow to be one of the most successful and talented DCI groups out there. Im not sure, take it with a grain of salt.
Jacob Delarosa that’s honestly what I thought they’d be too, but they were pretty amazing seats! The sound got up there and you could see everything. Looking forward to this coming year!
I was sad I couldn't stay past prelims but sw couldn't afford to keep us there. I'm glad I got to see world class championships for the first time in my life though.
At around 35 to 40 seconds does a plume fall off one of the wind players and onto the field? I think it happens on the 40 yd line Edit: nevermind im tripping it was an arrow
People enjoy the blue devils, that's why they watch this and we don't need you negative comment, if you don't like something ignore it. Don't ruin the joy.
jason grabowski How? Crown pretty much only led in brass in the finals by one-hundreth of a point and never beat the Blue Devils overall all season... 🤔
The lines are all different. Crown couldn’t do it better. Their line is set up differently and they don’t have the high note guys to pull off this show the same way. Conversely, I wouldn’t expect BD to do Crown better than Crown. Two great brass programs. Give them both their respect. .

5:56, bass best lick of the season
i literally have never heard that until this moment and i cant stop cumming
Well Ill be... There is😱
Freaking unbelievable! I heard it and had to rewind immediately.
And if you look closely, you can see me recording the show violating copyright ☠☠
Gentry Walker lol
Blue Devils don't take down personally recorded shows for copyright
Mikethedude22 doesn’t mean it’s not copyrighted
My video got taken down for copyright..
Chase, we turned you in. ;)
The entire show I always forget that I find myself smiling the whole time, haha. Such a great show.
2:00, that was so unbelievably clean. Cleaner than an Mr. Clean on a Tuesday afternoon cleaning his cleaning products with his cleaning equipment
So damn proud to be an Alumni!
Don’t you hate when the crowd claps at the wrong time and misses the actual climax of the part......
Imagine how the crowd would react if EVERYONE knew how difficult all of this is…
Like fr my school has trouble even getting in a line 😭😭
i wouldn't call it difficult, it just takes a lot of effort and time, but if you put in that effort idt it's too difficult
idk though, maybe im wrong
most people that go to watch dci finals know
They’re gonna get criticized bc of how effortless they make it look
A beautiful show with so much movement. The playing was impeccable. The soloists ALL played phenomenally. Well done, well done my hats off to BD.
Yo I’ve seen this show probably a hundred times now, and I’ve always been in love with it but for some reason it just hit me like it brought a tear to my eye just seeing this
Yes! I remember seeing them at DCI Southern Championships! Amazing performance.. thanks for posting this
Why at 4:24 the tubas look like they're floating🤣lookin like NPC characters
ozzy sanchez yo WTF did you do to my M I N D🤣
OMG that must be mad marching skills to float like that!!!
Their feet are obscured by their instrument and their jazz run is so good that their heads don't bob up and down.
This show constantly reminds me why I love marching band!

I hated how no one clapped at the end of the tenor feature :(
So cool, with I could've been there in person
The pit's floor toms or gong drums or whatever they are called which are played at the very beginning of the show carry incredibly well.

You should do their ballad for a collab vid or something?
Guy screaming in the background, I want to cuddle with you.

The fact that the flugel and trumpet solos in the ballad were that out of tune for the whole season is astounding.
