Im an OSU student and was at this game. It was communicated to the fans before the game to wear red especially for this game. Not all games are like this, just one or two a season.
Also to mention this happens in high school too.
Yeah there’s usually one “scarlet out” and one “black out” per year. Usually the Penn State game is a black out, but it was at noon instead of 5:30pm like it normally is

The fans were told to "Scarlet out the Shoe" ! That meant everyone had to wear something scarlet. It's great to have our friends from across the pond checking out our buckeyes! O-H!

3:24 it happens in other sports. Mainly during playoffs for the nba but it’s more common in college for fans to wear the same color because each home game schools normally have a theme of sorts.

I was at this game. My friend from high school (secondary school in British terms), who is an Ohio State University student, sold me his student ticket to me. I had an amazing time at the game. We have to get you guys out to an Ohio State Buckeyes football game. It is one of the coolest experiences ever.

1:57 Exactly right. The white part of the crowd at the bottom is their band and the part in the upper deck is the section for visiting fans. (Typically at all college football games, a visiting school will get a chunk of seats to sell to their students, alumni, and other fans; as well as sometimes a chunk for their band.)
5:55 I can't believe they cut out the punt; it was a pivotal moment. Penn State's returner let the ball go and it bounced and rolled another 25 yards, which is why Penn State starts back on their own 24 yard line even though they should have had excellent field position.

I was at the game. Very electric atmosphere for this one. Ohio State asked everyone to wear scarlet colored clothing. We call it a "Scarlet Out", mostly in response to Penn State's white outs when we play at their stadium.
I’m a colts fan. Marvin Harrison is an NFL hall of famer and was Peyton Mannings go to target to begin his career. As you could’ve guessed this is his son at OSU and is a projected 1st round pick in the draft.
I was at this game, The Shoe (Ohio Stadium) was rocking every time it was Penn State's ball. The white part at the bottom was for Penn State's band and family members. The upper white part was their fans / student section.

Good call on the mechanics of punting deep in your own territory, the punter normally gets aroud a 15ish yard snap.

Announcer was trying to force the whole "Maserati Marv" thing the whole game. It isn't a thing. I've heard "Marvelous Marv" before. Best Twitter/X snark back I heard was that our QB must then be Honda McCord (a shot that he's not eliete).
Speaking to the spectacle, a game at OSU is great.
The pregame and halftime with The Ohio State Marching band is what puts it over the top.
Several schools have the brand and tradition, but no one else has The Best Damn Band in the Land.
Script Ohio, the National and the Fight song as the Bucks take the field during pregame.
And the Bands Halftime shows are not even comparable to what other schools do.
And that doesn't even speak to the massive Tailgate parties!!!
College football is usually a combination of class reunion, cookout, optional drinking competition, and music festival strung out over a long weekend with a football game at the end, and it happens almost every weekend during the fall and winter.
It's very different from NFL games. There's some overlap, but not much.
Low scoring because you had the #2 and #3 defenses playing. And neither team had an experienced QB.

Ohio State's defense was dominating the game so thoroughly that after that punt that Penn State recovered off the foot of Lorenzo Styles, I knew we would get the ball right back. The OSU defensive line was treating the Penn State offensive line like a subway turnstile. Go Bucks!

..Remember, in college football, most of the fans in the stadiums are graduates (alumni) and students. That's why the passion is so high!

We need to be loud like this every game. For every game the opponent comes into our house they should find it hard as Hell to hear! We get to sittin on our hands often times waiting for the Big play! We're spoiled by the Big play! We need to be hungry all game long making it pitiful for the opponent! There is no excuse for any team to hear each other in our building! Let's go family...O-H!!!

The “white part” was Penn Stat’s Blue Band.
This was a "Red Out" or Scarlet out the Shoe -- because Penn State has their White Out.... But truthfully -- if you live in Ohio you have OSU t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc., so it's normally at least 75% scarlet and 25% grey! Go Bucks! O-H

Penn State isn't that far from Ohio State so there are lots of Penn fans in the crowd. Michigan is Ohio's big rival and the game is played at Thanksgiving; last game of the regular season. Penn State is 2nd biggest rival game.
My grandson played 2 yrs. for the Buckeye's.as a WR ( Wide Receiver). Buckeyes have been my team since 1970, when I lived in Columbus, Ohio for a few years.
The qb for Miami does have a brother in college football but he plays for Maryland
OSU attendance is still lower then Penn State’s their average is 110k every home game You mentioned about possibly going to a game if you get a chance go to a Penn State “White Out” it’s called The Greatest Show In All Of College Sports ( and in the NFL ) opposing fans even say it’s an experience they’ll never forget!! They should try to get tickets for Georgia at Tennessee. You can fly to Atlanta and drive to Knoxville. Then you can go to the Smoky Mountains National Park or go to Nashville.

The color thing, I’m assuming it’s the same elsewhere, but at Iowa Hawkeye games there is a seating chart with what color they want you to wear on game day in the section of seating you’re in. Every other section is black or gold for example.
NBA playoffs try to do the color stuff. Some teams are better than others.
Penn st realistically scored two field goals on this defense. That touchdown was garbage time and makes this game look a lot closer than it was.
This was only the 2nd or 3rd time OSU has done a "Scarlet Out," and it looks better for a night game when they also do the stadium accent lighting in red. They don't do it all the time. Penn State does it once a year, their famous "White Out," generally for their biggest home opponent.
The first time I remember this being done was about 20 years ago when the University of Louisville did a "Blackout" for a big, nationally televised home night game. They had special all-black uniforms and got all the fans to wear black to the game. The trend has stuck.

Kills me how so many college and NFL teams have towels. Thanks to a Pittsburgh news caster named Myron Cope who thought up the idea in the 1970's for the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team. He thought it was a great idea for the fans to get worked up with and wipe your seat should it be wet. I remember how everyone made fun of Steeler fans at the time. Now look.

If you wear blue to an Ohio State home game, you'll be harassed, the whole game. The Ohio State rival is Michigan. The Michigan colors are maize and blue. Harassed may be too lenient of a word.
This is a pretty pitiful highlight reel. This was two of the best defenses in the country but instead of showing the awesome defensive plays they just showed the few complete passes the offenses made. Show the pass breakups! Show the QB hurries! Show the sacks and 71 yard punt! This is Big Ten Football baby!

The SEC is trending downward. Texas beat Bama at home, and after the top two teams, the talent drops off really fast. Next year, when USC and UCLA join the Big Ten, it will cement its status as the marquee football conference. Oregon and Washington join the year after that. Even talking about this year, I'm not so sure that the SEC is better than the Big Ten top to bottom.
