Ambers reaction here is actually very realistic. She couldnt speak, she couldnt move, she's just shaking and the way her voice cracks when she calls out for Mark you could tell she's not just scared, SHE'S FUCKING TERRIFIED. You can also see in her eyes that her life flashes before her. They actually made Anissa way more scarier than in the comics.
First, Anissa. Oh god. Non-comics folks aren’t ready. Second…THE COMIC CON SCENE. They captured one of the most amazing, iconic moments from the entire comic run PERFECTLY.
Also, Steven Yeun is bodying it like always, but Zazie Beetz needs awards for this ep. What a performance. And god, how nice it is to have Amber written so well this season. Neither of them is right, neither of them is wrong, both of them are completely understandable and justified. The break up absolutely had to happen, but I’m so glad they gave it its own space and didn’t have the moment living in Eve’s shadow.
It’s such an astronomical improvement over season 1 Amber. It’s sad to see them break up, not because they fell out of love, but because they love each other so much, but their circumstances are too dangerous for them to be together. It’s touched on in so many superhero stories that it’s a trope at this point, but this is one of the few times I actually felt the risk and hopelessness of it. They portrayed it so well.
I agree with you except for that kind of backhanded compliment on Amber. I don’t think her change from season one is “astronomical” or even close or that she was written badly in season one.

I think they wrote her pretty badly in that she doesn’t come off very sympathetic at all even though she’s completely right to find the dishonesty (secret identity or not) unacceptable. The way they wrote her reaction - very clearly coded as someone who had no idea - after the fight with Doug in S1 ep 6 only to immediately reveal that she HAD known the whole time…it was handled very, very poorly, and ruined what should have been an excellent and reasonable point from her. That’s poor writing, there’s no way around it, and even the show runners have agreed. I’m just glad the writing team knocked it out of the park in season 2, making her as sane and reasonable and supportive as she always was, but now making it translate more directly to the audience. It’s the best part of the show in season 2, where it was arguably the worst part of the show in season 1. That’s good. The relationship deserves to shine, as does Amber.

It was the constant lying that she had a problem with, not being a superhero. I thought her points as a seventeen year old in her presumably first serious relationship were valid then and are still valid now. I always thought the fans criticizing her were misunderstanding her. That said, I’m glad that she comes off more likable this season for the fans who did have a problem with her.
As a comic reader, my mouth was gaping for the entire last 10 minutes. Seeing these blasphemously iconic moments and events animated just made me feel so happy, i was SO fucking giddy

That moment is too important to a lot of future character moments for at least five different characters, they kind of have to, and no matter how they try and make it "less controversial" it's gonna start a shit storm online
Best episode yet, honestly liked Anissa's new design, looks more like a hardened warrior than her comic book version. And the meta animation talk was quite funny and unexpected.
I loved the moment where Mark refuses to even lie about taking over the Earth. It demonstrates the real meaning behind his hero name: his body may get beaten to a bloody pulp every other episode but his will remains *Cuts to Invincible title card*
I also think it's more of him not bending over to the Viltrumites will even if it meant not saving earth coz he's not like them and he's not like his father. It's like him proving sum to himself and denying his Viltrumite heritage despite Ceicil telling him to surrender and Anissa telling him to embrace his heritage.
From the looks of everything that went down in this episode I think the writers are really gonna follow every aspect of Anissa’s arc including the YOU KNOW WHAT.
Doesn’t when Allen punch her, she says he hits harder than her ex husband? That’s a pretty dark line but it’s made humorous bc she says it herself and they even removed that, so I have no idea how they’ll handle Anissa’s future
Usually when the bad guy threatens the girl you're like oh okay she's in trouble but she'll probably be let go or she'll be saved yada yada but with this show, what makes it such a terrifying scene, is that there is every possibility that Anissa will just close her hand and crush Amber, you just dont know
The details on this show are just... brilliant. When Anissa flew through that water kaiju, she got covered in blood, but she was travelling so fast that when she abruptly stops, all the blood continues moving forward due to inertia and gets washed off her instantly. Also it looked so cool.
Best episode of the season. Felt so many emotions, the fight scenes were incredible, the meta commentary on animation was fantastic. Just absolute perfection of an episode.
I definitely had a feeling it was purposeful that he pretended to be unconscious. I briefly skimmed what’s to come in the next episode based on the comics. I’m excited.
Anissa is NOT stronger than Nolan. The Kaiju Nolan fought was enhanced, and he'd been fighting nonstop for like an hour beforehand. There is a reason Nolan is referred to as Nolan The Great by every other Viltrumite. Anyways, this was a fantastic episode.
Donald assumed she could be at least faster then Nolan for some reasons in that show. And from what i understand Mark wasn't supposed to be able to fight back at all against that viltrumite old chik from episode 4 unlike in comics( which i've never read). Just don't exclude that show can make changes when it wants to.

Having read the comics and knowing Anissa was coming, I was curious how her storyline would translate to the show. I still am, but for now, they've done a great job. She's just as crazy as I remember. And thank god she broke up Mark and Amber. Also, the Comic con scene was perfect.
Honestly yes next episode should officially break them up for good, next season will be the invincible war and eve and mark are together for that event so i think this is the best time to end them

Filip Schaff's character model in this was based on one of the two artists of the comic, Ryan Ottley. Schaff looks like Corey Walker in the comic so this is very fitting. Also he was voiced by Tim Robinson from I Think You Should Leave
I don't know how, but I _knew_ the Dean would be Reginald VelJohnson. Maybe I just really hoped for it against all logic, he was the principal of the school names after him already, but his return as the dean was the highlight of the episode.
