I’m JUST starting this show now. I very much appreciate your breakdowns as I watch them after each episode. I wish you many subs and good fortune. Thank you!
a kunoichi. But its quite unappreciated by the common person who has never seen a knife attack before just how dangerous it truly is. Don't matter who you are. A knife is more than a equalizer.
I had to subscribe. I love this show, but sometimes I look away and I know that I missed something important. Your explanations clear everything up and connect the dots for me. Thanks!
When saw this on Disney+ (at least in Australia), the subtitles 2:22 say "I wish we'd taken Joseon together". I had no idea Joseon was a place in Korea until I saw this video! This is with the default subtitles for the Japanese dialogue. Just to experiment, when I turned on the English subtitles, it says "Korea" right at that part!
@@aryankamble1771 it wasn't turned on. It was the default subtitles for the Japanese language parts. When I experimented and purposely tried the English subtitles (for all dialogue, not just foreign), then it says "Korea" instead!
@aryankamble1771 you mean you have no subtitles for the Japanese dialogue on default settings? Well in Australia at least, there are as viewers here would not be expected to understand the Japanese dialogue
they didn't put the right two and two together but the english did make a correct guess in that the heavily polluted waters of the river thames DOES cause bloody flux though through miasma.
At the time and for at least a few more centuries bathing would have been dangerous. Even today over a million people die each year from Dysentery. Oh & I’m really enjoying this show ☺️
As a half white, half Japanese girl with the name Mariko, yes it really is 😅🤣 never really had people pronounce my name like that after I said it aloud to them myself… lmao
Great adaptation of the book & overall supurb. OK it's crafted for a western audience but so was the novel. I get some of the Japanese gripes but hey its not the cultural attack Napoleon was to France so all good😊
The one thing I’m still confused about is the heir, is it the heir to the Taiko or former regent or is it the future emporer Also there are SOOOOO many names it’s crazy that you’re able to keep track of all of them (reminds me of GoT)
I think it's okay to call her wife. There is a lot of sources that translate the Japanese word seishitsu (which is what Kiri and Fuji are in the show) as "wife" and since she was the lord's official partner, had legal standing and managed his household, I think enough conditions are met for her title to be roughly equivalent with the western conception of "wife".
Women would have been seen not heard. Female assassins would be like male assassins you wouldn't see them till you did which was getting the drop on you. I'm guessing there were more female crash test dummies or kill by honey trap.
Pete, did you know Shogun was adapted into a classic miniseries in 1980 starring Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mufuni, John Rhys Davies and featuring narration by Orson Wells. If not, you should give it a look.
One more to go before I get caught up. Should be able to get it out by the time episode 5 gets here. Let me know what you think.
The fact that you released this video two minutes after I watched the second episode is amazing. So useful
Maybe he watched the old show
wow, it's almost as if it was made just for you haha

Of all the recaps I have watched yours is the best. Therefore I've become a subscriber.
The petite but utterly ruthless assasin left me wondering. What kind of upbringing and training did that young woman receive? She was a terminator!

For an hour show there's so much information thrown at you that I often have to rewind lol
I'm definitely having difficulty with all the subtitles, your breakdowns really help to clarify what I'm missing.
Best Shogun recap, rich with texture and on-point… Thank you 👏
Glad you enjoyed it
Really good as usual Pete. You should try to schedule a mid-season live discussion with Bald Move, as you have for other shows. Really enjoy those.
Really good video with a great summary narration!
I had to subscribe. I love this show, but sometimes I look away and I know that I missed something important. Your explanations clear everything up and connect the dots for me. Thanks!
great recap as usual. Only thing is that my old ears hear 'Engine' when you say 'Anjin' :D
You have a great voice for video voiceovers!
these reviews are great (got hooked on your The Expanse reviews) clears up some confusion for me on what's going on 🙂
love your shoes.. thank you for all of your research etc

@@RaphaelChan888 Oh, but I didn't get the default subtitles for Japanese. I too was watching on Disney+

Joseon isnt a place in Korea, its the old name for Korea before 1897. Its actually still part of the current official name for north korea
great recap, thank you
Thanks for covering ep 2
Episode 3 video is almost done so now I'll be covering them week to week until we get to the end.
Very much needed these breakdowns, Ty!
The episode is so info heavy that I had to watch it twice, and still needed to see this video
俳優さんがみんなカツラでなく、
本当に頭の髪の毛を剃っているから凄いと思う
ポルトガル人もサムライもね
I never read the novel, but the first two episodes set me up pretty well despite my doubts!
Spot on. Bravo!
Thanks so much, my friend! Thanks to you, I can follow the show even more closely and enjoy it even more because I know what's going on.
Re: the curses, "Milk drivling fuck smear" lives in my head rent free and will continue to do so for the rest of for ever.

The assassin died/bleed out where japan was on the other sand/map. if you didnt catch that.
So?
Shogun is soooo hard! I love this show
Thank you
fantastic
Thank you
Great recap. But the way you say "Mariko" is almost distracting. lol.
Just teasing you ;)

Continuo sem entender nada.
Kiri is not his wife - she is his oldest and main consort.
I think it's okay to call her wife. Ok weeb

I wonder why im not seeing more of the “No black people and gay lords. This show is racist. Booo!”
This show is garbage and not a faithful adaptation of Clavell's novel but woke sabotage.
lol no
