    After dealing with the repercussions of Odo's betrayal, we return to DS9 in order to await our next mission. Eventually we receive a call from Councillor Garak saying he and Kira are assigning us a mission into the depths of Dominion territory to research the Hur'q at an abandoned archive.

    I absolutely love this arc, but it also makes me very sad, as this is the last of Rene Auberjonois as Odo, and the last of Aron Eisenberg as Nog (even if he's not a main character in this arc) and it's just wonderful, but realizing that is just sad.
    Looking into it, Rene Auberjonois seemed to love the character, as he did voice acting for Odo whenever there was a game, and he also voiced Mr. House in Fallout: New Vegas. He kept working on projects he loved up until he died of cancer.
    I hope they were able to give the characters fitting ends, as I don't think someone as iconic as Odo can be recast.
    Several of the other main cast are getting up there in years (I mean hell, Ezri Dax's actress (Nicole de Boer) is 50, Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) 57, and they're the young ones. (Yes, Dr. Bashir (Alexander Siddig) is 55 and Kira (Nana Visitor) is 63, but still, many are approaching their mid to late 70s.) Andrew Robinson, who played Garak is nearly 80.

    • @michaelgreenwood3413
      @michaelgreenwood3413 3 года назад +2

      You SEEN Nana Visitor though? Even at 63, she's still fitter and frankly hotter than women a third her age. Her and Jadzia's actress are close friends and keep fit together, and it's made them both age like fine wine.

    Some remarks on Odo's actions:
    - Odo knew of the real strenght of the Dominion. However he was truthfull that he was the only thing standing between most of hte Dominion fringe and Hurq destruction as well - given what the main dominions plan for the Hur'q was.
    - He marked Bajor for two reasons:
    1. It is close to the Wormhole. He could stage it that he just _happened_ to have arrived at that moment.
    2. Hiding a Hurq lure on DS9 is next to impossible. Hiding it on a planet? Pretty easy overall!

      Indeed. Their impression of the ancient Voth and Hirogen would be interesting to see, especially. Seeing as their modern tech is far in advance of Star Fleet, the Klingons, etc., I wonder if that was the case with the Dominion at the time. Odo say's the Vorta were created 2,000 years ago but the dates suggests 8,000 years (Unless of course, a Dominion year is much shorter than an Earth year). Also, Rick refers to the Hur'Q invasion occurring in the 4th century, but I think he actually meant the 14th century.

    • @chemputer
      @chemputer 3 года назад

      While I agree it's great content, it doesn't make any sense for Cryptic Studios to sponsor him for playing it and essentially just cutting out the story bits and adding in his own creativity where he can, as that story takes a lot for them to develop, and also is what drives some players to play the game in the first place.
      After awhile, of course, if you're going to keep playing it, you run out of story (or at least, it arrives in such small chunks with new content patches that it's not the main reason to play), and you play it for the gameplay, and a story series like this could actually be seen as usurping the market for the story, as people can watch this rather than play the game. There are plenty of games out there where the publisher will copyright strike your video if it's just a compilation of the story cutscenes.
      And to be frank, most of us are here because we don't want to play the game to get the story. I've dabbled in it, but I much prefer this presentation style.

    I kind of compare whoever is writing the 'story lines' for Star Trek Online to the current writers of Star Wars on Disney+, like The Mandalorian and Clone Wars (Primarily Dave Filioni).
    Like Dave, these writers seem to have a deep understanding of what makes Star Trek work, and are able to work within previously established canon to make some great now story content (although of course that content has to be structured to work within the confines of a MMO, but still).

    I am really enjoying this, but it makes me sad that this is as close to a continuation of the DS9 story and its characters that we will ever get. Its is good to hear some of the original voice cast in these roles again, but i wish this could have been live action in a legitimate Star trek series. They have had 20 years to give us good Star Trek but they have waited too long and now it is too late.

      Probably, that's what Founders do. Sounds like they hadn't fully developed their genetic engineering tech and screwed something up, turning the Hur'Q into something like the Reavers in Firefly. Capable of interstellar travel but insane and insanely dangerous.
      It would be even more interesting for a remnant of the original Hur'Q to turn up and join in the fight against the modern version.

    Wow they wrote Odo as pretty cold because even if the planet was in no danger people and officials plus civilians were killed.
    The old Odo would never put the woman he loves in the slightest danger.
    He understands the federation and Klingon mindset.
    He doesn’t need to lie about anything.
    Offer the Klingons an honorable fight plus loot to one clan and all will jump in.
    Klingons respect the dominion fighters.
    The federation is harder by this time the federation has learned their lesson about ignoring huge threats.
    But a simple demonstration on a deserted planet with the device will win the argument.
    Plainly put that is not Odo but a changling that is conforming more and more like his people.

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos 2 года назад

      Considering some of the later stuff in this, I kind of suspect that Odo was as much trapped in this mess as everyone else.
      It also seems like Bajor would have been a major target anyway due to the Hur'q that were in the Alpha Quadrant in hibernation. This just sped it up to happen earlier, and the female changeling seems like she'd be creating issues for Odo in other plans as well

    Admiral Hale is a Cowboy Diplomat. He won't start a fight but he'll absolutely finish one.
    Admiral Amane however is very much willing to shoot first if it means doing the right thing.
    Hale flies a primarily exploration ship.
    Amane flies a Galaxy X.
    What a difference in command styles for captains from the same era.
