Good to hear that a little bit of cupping ("ramping") is considered normal on AT tires mounted in the front. At about 8500 miles on my Cooper AT3s (vehicle is a GX460 with IFS and full time 4WD), I noticed some ramping on the outside tread blocks of the front tires. Just rotated them today. I've been worried that I'll need to do a tie rod or ball joint replacement in the near future... and that may still be the case, but it sounds like 5k mile tire rotations will help mitigate this wear.
@surfordie82 any worn out steering parts will definitely add premature wear to your tires, so get those checked out. Other than that, if your alignment is good and you rotate your tires every 5k, this way you will be golden. There is nothing more you can do other than play with air pressure a bit. Usually, about 20% above OEM recommendation does provide a little less wear to the tires. Especially in the front edges.
Thank You man! I’ve been bad about rotating, especially back when I didn’t know crap about it. On this new set of 35x12.5x20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers I have on my 2020 F350 single wheel long bed, I decided it was time to preserve the tires as long as possible, especially since they’re so dayum expensive haha I wanted to know the best way to have them rotated, when and if it changed based on many different factors…..and it does haha Appreciate you
Im glad i could help! And yes unfortunately tires are big investment. Keeping the tire pressure in check and frequent tire rotations are the most you can do to keep them lasting a long life. Also a tire balance at half life will do help a ton as the balance changes as the tire is wearing down.
The tire will go back and forth between 2 of the 4 corners. Same as just doing forward and backward. If you do not alrernate, you lose the benefit of the tire rotating through all 4 corners of the vehicle.
Front to back first time but how come the ride of the car is rough it feel like the tires are squared? Since I moved the front tires to the back any explanation for that?
Tires can feel louder or rougher if they are having a wear, cupping, or feathering. When the worse tires are in the front, you will feel it more. Also, vibrations can be from an unbalanced tire or out of round tire. Many times, you won't feel the issue in the rear, but once it's rotated to the front, you will feel it.
@josephrobi6806 as long as the tires are not directional or staggered, they can be in any position on the vehicle. No added danger by rotating them in any way.
Great video. Why do Chevys and Dodges have squared-off fender wells? 🤦♂️ Looks so bad since Tires are round. Ford has always been round and looks so clean.
@kingo6063 not unless you star feeling a vibration. Sometimes when tires get some wear and lose some weight, the tires need to get re balanced. Usually at about half life.
Thank you for actually explaining how it works and the tire rotation, I couldn’t find this anywhere else.
Glad it helped!
Bro you make more sense than anyone...great video!
@@BRYKS22 thanks!
Thank you for your video.
It's nice to hear someone explaining the process clearly.
Nice work
Appreciate the feedback!

I've heard of the "X" rotation method, but I guess I never thought about it being good for smoothing out off road chopping/cupping.
Thanks for the tip! Nice ride too. I have a 2019 AT4. Still loving the rumble…
Thank you, I appreciate it!

Great explanation, thanks 🙏
What happens if you do the X pattern every rotation
The tire will go back and forth between 2 of the 4 corners. Same as just doing forward and backward. If you do not alrernate, you lose the benefit of the tire rotating through all 4 corners of the vehicle.
@@automotiveandmore thank you
Great tips...thank you.
Great video bud! Appreciate the help because my duratracs on my AT4 are cupping and that cross pattern rotation sounds like it'll do the trick!
Thank you! Definitely give it a shot, and you will see how the tread will start evening out.
I do a 5 tire rotation every 5k.
@@TheDefenderSisu even better if you are doing it with 5 tires!
Can you review a 5 tire rotation please? Thanks.
Great idea. I will make a video on a 5 tire rotation this week!
What is your recommendation for a five tire rotation pattern series of rotations?
Do you need to just move the tires or include the rims?
Wheels and tires as one assembly.
That would take forever. Haha
great video!
Good stuff 👍

@@automotiveandmore Great and also I did not criss cross the front tires that probably make it worst but not dangerous?

Its ur opinion bud square dosnt look bad it looks aggressive and matches the square shape of the trucks especially tge 2014-2018s
Rounds 😂
Does there need to be a re balance?

@@automotiveandmore 10/4 thank you
Good video thank you!!
What about resetting the sensors in the tires
I have another video on that procedure.

I always heard tires Need to run in one direction..and only change back to front ...
@lesfaust9634 that's not true.
I only rotate in a x pattern…
That's the same as as just doing forward to back. Your tires only travel to 2 locations instead of 4.
Or just do the half x every time.
cupping is not guaranteed brah
Instructions unclear, put my duals up front and ejected my axle in a turn. Thanks a lot...
@bored.in.california2111 your duals? tIre rotation has nothing to do with your axles. Sorry to tell you.
@@automotiveandmore Geez bro, Im just here to make a terrible joke.
@bored.in.california2111 oh lol. Well, it was terrible if that makes you feel better

Redo this video but make it 1 minute long. Be clear and to the point.
That's why you can choose a playback speed in the settings, 😆.
lol everybody freaked out on you for “talking too much” …..
Like dudes the video is 6 minutes long, relax

Thanks but you talk too much 👍🏻
Get to the point!!
