One of the million reasons why we love watching your videos is because we love seeing the different contrast seasons from where we are vs NZ. It looks so summery and clear, meanwhile, we have snow coming down today and tomorrow.
That was one of the most beautiful parks I've seen in a while, and man oh man you guys did it to me again I just got through eating and then after watching the both of you eating that yummy Fish N Chips made me hungry all over again! I told my wife that's it's we're moving to NZ! lol
oh what a nice drive guys! there are so many beautiful places to stop by on the way... the birds park, the white sand beach, and the walking tracks in the forest. It can be blessing to be able to watch those wild creatures in nature! 👍
Nothing like bird watching and finding what birds you are actually seeing. We get really magnetized to bird life..actually to animal life. Wow, Yen, thank you for teaching us a new word! See? Another reason why we love watching you guys. Yes, food makes EVERYTHING better, no doubt! ohhhh and fish and chips just makes everything perfect.
Yea! And it's always wonderful getting to see them out in the open and in their natural habitats ❤️😊 Haha thanks guys! I learnt the word from some viewers awhile ago surprised that Peter was a twitcher 😁🐦 thought I'd share the knowledge!
One of my favourite spots ..great walking the beautiful beaches and parks full of happy protected bird life ..when I was last there I walked up the northern beachside and returned back through the paddocks and accidentally came across a park ranger who took me to a breeding pair of Takahe that were walking through the brush..made my day that’s for sure it was Awesum ..great vid guys
Ohhhh thanks for this video! I love Tawharanui, well... Who doesn't! It's gorgeous!!! Peter you can see takahes is TiritiriMatangi ;) Btw guys, since u recommended that vegan burguer in titirangi.. We've stopped twice there already when coming bsck from Piha. Thank youuuu, before we had to wait longer when we were hungry!
Oo awesome! Glad you enjoyed the vegan burgers. It is such a convenient location that's why we picked it too hahaha. 😅 we went to tiritirimatangi with the intention to find a takahe too... but no luck. We were fortunate enough to see a kokako though so it was still a successful day. Actually now that I mention it yen reckons she might have seen one at tiritiri 🤔 but I dunno might have been a pukeko
Haha we also like to start late sometimes for the day. Especially on lazy weekends 😄 Great bird spotting locations you've visited in this vlog. Learned new word today: twitcher :D The fish and chips look so good! Perfect ending after walking on the beach. Yup tomato sauce and tartar are must-have to pair with the fish and chips 😍
Hahaha some days are just nice and lazy ay but then we pay the price when we can't get food 😝 thank goodness for 4 square! 😂 Are either of you guys twitchers? 😁🐦
Check out Zealandia in Wellington and Orokonui Sanctuary in Dunedin for guaranteed sightings of Takahe Peter. Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari and Pukaha Mount Bruce are two more fantastic bird sanctuaries closer to you. So many great areas to see in NZ and would love to see them all connected one day like hundreds of years ago.
Thanks for the recommendations Steve! We visited Zealandia with the same intention but luckily managed to see a Tuatara and a lot of Kaka so the trip was well worth it. Haven't been to all those other places though so gonna write them down and check em out in the future. Cheers! 😁✌
Was so rooting for Peter to find a takahe 🐦🐦🐦… Had all my fingers and toes crossed.. really thought it was going to happen 🥺… looks like the zoom lens came in handy… very nice shots of the birds 📷😁. Good job on getting twitcher!! Sounded like Yen said tweaker at the end… which definitely means something else than a bird watcher in the US 🤪.. By the way, 2:40 and eateries closed?? Aye yaaaa… at least Peter enjoyed the sammie more than 🥦 and 🍗 … awesome place, awesome vid! Glad NZ is starting to open up! Stay safe guys!
😅 yeah 3 different bird reserves still no takahe. I've seen one at the Auckland zoo before but that's cheating so can't count that. They are really cool looking birds kind of like dinosaurs 🦕 I think Africa must also be super cool for checking out birds... and actually all animals on that note 🤔😂 yeah the zoom camera came in handy those lil fellas were really far away.
Your vlog today was so BEAUTIFUL!! 😍🥰 The place, the scene, the view, everything was so STUNNING!!! Perfection!!! But wish Peter saw a Takahe, thats much better. It was a perfect day for you guys to roam around that stunning place. 🇳🇿🌄 Love watching your vlogs guys. Always a fan here 👌😎✨
Thanks Nikki! It was such a magical area. These nature sanctuaries are our favorites. It's always nice to be able to see rare kiwi wildlife preserved in a safe environment. Take care and have an awesome week ahead 😁✌
Its a good place to have a walk especially in lockdown. So many stunning birds. I have a request since Auckland Zoo is open, could you make a video there?
😁 I love Auckland zoo. Went there for my birthday last year and dragged all our friends along hahahaha. Ok we will see if we can squeeze in a zoo vlog at some point 😁🤙
Great videos! You did the Ecology Trail the hard way via the shoreline and climbing those shore rocks there is an easier way. Hehehe... It's a rare opportunity to see those takahe. I visited Tawharanui Open Sanctuary 7 times this year I have only seen them once. Great work! Thank you.
😅 just like us to do the track on the hardest route 😂 makes me feel a bit better knowing how hard it is to spot one. So you remember where abouts you managed to see it? While we were driving there and back we were going at a snails pace cause we thought one might be chilling with all the pukekos but no luck there either 😅
@@PeterandYen It's near where Peter is looking for the takahe in the video 8:27 and on the same side of the track. It's outside the lower gate (spray disinfectant for shoes) of Ecology Trail near the creek. Look for the takahe feeder. Note top gate is on top of the hill where the lambs are. 😊
Thanks for the tips! We definitely gotta try there again! I feel like if there's anywhere we're gonna have luck spotting them in the wild it's definitely at Tawharanui 😊
So cool right! First time seeing kaka was in zealandia in Wellington they have a big gang of em. Really want to see a kakapo (anywhere) and a takahe (in the wild) those are the big bucket list items now 😁
The regional park trail was so beautiful so many amazing sights! and you guys got super lucky seeing all those cute birds 😍 Fingers crossed one day we will get to see the takahe in your vlog 🤞
I have just found you guys lol i have been back in New Zealand two years now after returning from Australia after 33 years and one of my goals to see as much of my own country as i can i am Auckland so will definitely check out Tawharanui Regional Park so i be checking all your vlogs gotta have the fish and chips lol.
Thanks Felix! So many great spots even in Auckland which most Kiwis outside of Auckland would consider not the prettiest part of NZ (though we're bias having grown up here and think it has plenty to offer and simply gets overlooked a lot)! 🤣
Gorgeous views and adventurous hike! I was thinking and hoping you guys were going to spot a Takahe! BTW, the fish and chips look delicious! For me, malt vinegar is still the way to compliment this meal (I know, I’ve mentioned this before)! 🤣🤣
Hahaha that's true... there used to be even more back in the day but now there are more options for food. If you go out of Auckland it is a reliable way for a good feed 😂
Was it a Takahe flying back and forth @9.45? Today's vlog, colour and effects look spectacular esp. @4.19 and again 4.26, almost 3D-like. Vlog this week, another good one with morning cup of coffee. Thank you both
If only! 😆 Takahe are flightless birds so gotta look for them in the bushes usually 🙂 Thank you for noticing the colours and effects 😁 I tried some new techniques out and am so pleased it got noticed 😊🙌
Is generally overcrowded in summer with Covid lockdown providing some respite. A pity as is used to be less of a destination, but now Anchor Bay in particular feels like Takapuna ,a busy inner city Auckland beach these days, with too many swimmers and surfers/boogie boards competing for space
We honestly didn't know of it either till we got the recommendation and we grew up in Auckland too plus been around tons of places 😅 I think it just goes to show there's countless awesome places ay 😆👍
Haha looking for rare birds and animals really does feel like looking for pokemon in real life. Plus trying to get a nice photo of them feels like your trying to catch them 😄

I know people dont like asking these questions but this something that have me not wanting to travel to other countries are new Zealanders friendly towards people from other races or culture who come to their country
We reckon us Kiwis (New Zealanders) are generally a really friendly, laid back lot. As long as people are courteous, respectful and kind, that's usually the attitude you get back. Some cities are more multicultural than others (Auckland especially being NZ's biggest city) and some places are way more touristy so it's normal to see different races and cultures (Queenstown, Rotorua, Taupo etc). Unfortunately racism exists everywhere around the world and sadly NZ isn't totally exempt either but honestly it feels wayyy better here than what we've seen of many other countries - plus if you ever come to NZ and bump into Peter or me we'd definitely say hello and welcome with a big smile 😁
Yeah 😥 luckily New Zealand has done an awesome job protecting the remaining species. For example Kiwi birds use to be endangered but I believe they are no longer 👍
