- The political drama in Papua New Guinea reached a boiling point in 2024 as Prime Minister James Marape faced multiple votes of no confidence (VONC). The opposition’s relentless efforts to unseat Marape sparked a series of events that reshaped the nation's political landscape.
This video explores how Marape’s strategic maneuvers, defections, and the rejection of a second VONC by the Public Business Committee (PBC) led to the controversial proposal to amend Section 145 of PNG’s Constitution. We dive into the implications of introducing an 18-month grace period after a successful VONC and how it may impact political stability-or undermine democracy.
Is this amendment a necessary move for political stability, or is it a way for the Marape-Rosso government to consolidate power? Watch as we break down the facts and provide insights into the future of Papua New Guinea’s leadership struggles.

We need to change our election process to go onto election every 3years because it will give a good challenge to our elected leaders to do work to maintain their leadership potential for each electorate along the country
Agree. The election law should be changed for MPs to serve 3 years to make them deliver within that period if they want to be re-elected. 5 years term gives them a lot of time to fill their pockets and grow their businesses and bank accounts while their voters suffer.
Hon Marape still standing
Marape , please must stand down...
