Ultralisk Evolution: Noxious and Torrasque (Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm)

- The noxious strain was developed at the Metis research facility, overseen by Dr. Klein, near Augustgrad. The evolution was an accidental evolution due to gas tanks meant to kill the ultralisks breaking open and the gas subsequently being incorporated into the ultralisk. The torrasque strain was also redeveloped when ultralisks were exposed to experimental nukes, whose radioactive compounds were integrated into the atrophied strain and allow the ultralisks to reincarnate independently without the power of cerebrates. The new torrasque ultralisks were then used to destroy the Dominion's experimental nuclear weapons facility... "Ultralisk Evolution" mission from 'Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm' PC game... Ultralisk Evolution:
* Noxious strain: Emits Noxious Cloud that deals 5 damage per second to nearby enemy ground units. Toxic Blast ability deals 20 damage to enemy ground units and structures.
* Torrasque strain: When killed, enters a chrysalis for a short period before resurrecting with full health. Rebirth cooldown is 60 seconds. - Игры

PS. People complaining about dead ultralisks - jeeez... I just didn't give a f...! That was an EVOLUTION mission that is easy as hell on any difficulty! It is just kind of tutorial. You just try the units and decide what suits you best. It's like someone complaining in shooter tutorial - duuuude, you pushed "W-S-A-D" buttons not fast enough! And moved your camera left and right not too smoothly!... jeeez... who the f... even cares ab this things?.. *facepalm* ... PS. And to people advising attack command instead of move - yeah, I KNOW ab it, but very rarely use it, coz in the situation with large forces (and in the most cases for critical assaults you need exactly the large forces) the first units start attacking on sight and block the fucking way for other units that start "dancing around" trying to push through, and that's especially critical in case of ramps, corridors, etc. PPS. Rewatched it again. Actually at 6:56 I'm using attack move... So yeah, THANK YOU for your lectures... ¯\_༼ ಥ ‿ ಥ ༽_/¯
Ever heard of the attack move? Try it instead of the right click move command
did you have to play this more than once?
its just weird cuz its legitimately EASIER to just use attack move. if you didn't care why wouldn't you just do the easier thing? instead you seemingly try to optimize your unit pathing and just fuck it up royally to the point where you almost lose a "easy as hell on any difficulty" mission.
a better comparison to the shooter tutorial is if the player tried to do a reload animation cancel and kept fucking it up. or if he kept aiming at the head instead of center mass but was missing all his shots. you still tear into him because even if its a tutorial area, he's still making an effort to do a more advanced technique but is just fucking it up cuz he's bad.
also how do you upload onto youtube and not expect to be torn apart for every mistake you make? this is the internet bro.

That Ultralisk was captive for god knows how long but once Kerrigan told him _"Hi"_ it escaped thanks to the power of friendship.

What a simp
Let me get this straight... you were given a army with mecha and tanks and you had 7 marines guards to watch three ultralisk
Yeah... Terran commanders are known to have huge lapses in judgement
Normally they should notice any problems in advance, and in case of problems fire at an ultralisk while it’s chained.
But you know them… Terrans.
Dunce logic!🤭🤣🤣🤣
Hmmmmm ... magic!
1 word.. budgeting.
Half of the dominion (and also Moebius) collectively share half a braincell. The other half of the dominion's braincell is hogged by mengsk. It's still half a braincell so not much difference.
"Contain those Ultralisks, or the Emperor will have your head!"
Well it looks like he's going to have to collect them off the floor.
The heads r toxic so the emperor will tell them to dispose of them immediately
Poor marine, that died the first.
It was his first day on this job, and only wanted to see a giant zerg during his lunch break, nothing more(
Вирал Джияджи dominion is a genius tbh, put a marine to watch over the ultalisk
Lol
Ikr.
‘Hey John why is our power supply next to 2 ultralisk ? Isn’t that unsafe’
I remember my mom playing this mission (at my insistence, she was hesitant until the Zerg campaign) and her eyes shot open the minute she saw "Ultralisk Mutation." It got to this part here, the Torrasque part. I said nothing because I knew I picked this and didn't want to influence her. The minute one of them fell and starting coming back up, she was like, "Oh. *Oh.* Ohhhh yes. There's mah bois."
Them, zerglings, and hydralisks were all she made from that point forward.
It be like that doe, at that point theres no pojt in making anything else
@@RareScv3091 "Psh. Who the fuck needs mutalisks. Go, Torrasques go!" Meanwhile in the base the pillarmen theme starts playing.
I picked the Noxious because between Wild Mutation and the upgrade that causes Ultras to heal themselves upon dealing damage, my Ultras almost never died anyway and them just melting through enemy hordes even faster was hilarious.
@@magni5648 is that a thing in the campaign?? O.O
@@Calthir It's one of the three regular mutations you can choose for the Ultra in the evolution pit. It causes Ultras to heal for 40% of the damage they do with their basic attacks.
Kerrigan dumping wild mutation on them doubles their attack speed and gives them 200 extra hp for 10 seconds, and at that point your little deathball should overrun the most serious resistance in a given fight.
“It’s okay, guys. They’ll never fire on a highly populated area”
“FIRE ON THAT HIGHLY POPULATED AREA!”
At this point, anyone who thought Mengsk wouldn't fire on highly populated areas was watching too much UNN.

He wasn't even aiming for the torrasques, he directly hit the civilian buildings.
I remember the Torrasque from Brood War chapter 5 mission 'To Chain the Beast', that thing would periodically resurrect and go on a rampage in your base.
Lucas França de Oliveira or Enslavers 3a
800hp and destroy siege tank in just 2 attack. at first i just pile up bunkers with 4 marines around the base, is useless LOL base get destroyed easily. have to pile up dozens siege tanks just to kill one torrasque
I used to hate that mission too but then I found a way to deal with it.
Of course battlecruisers or wraiths are a great way to deal with any kind of ground based unit.
But you don't start out with those right away. What I would do is that I put a vulture right outside the bunkers. When old Torrie comes around. Have the vulture attack it, and then drive around the bunkers. The Torrasque will waste time trying to squash the vulture while the Marines inside the bunkers are chewing it to pieces.
Another tactic is to lower its HP before it reaches your bunkers. In the beginning using vulture mines is very effective. But later use a science vessel and it's radiation ability to take its health down before it reaches the base. Its armor and its attacks strength become obsolete because it doesn't have as much time to utilize them.
I would simply get two BCs before it appears and Yamato the fuck out of it while two tanks finished it
yeah while this one were geneticly alter, no longer use for cerebrates for resurrection
infact in heart of swarm is where you etheir recover back the classic unit or choose the better newer one
6:44 Something happens if you destroy the vehicle there. A Marine emerges, yelling "My car, man! I just paid that thing off!"
Does anybody ever not choose the Torrasque? Immortal Ultralisk is really best choice.
i did....
well every single evolutions are better than normal zerg, Torrasque is just a better option since it gives Ultralist, one of the bulkiest and terrifying melee unit, a revive that is available for every 60 seconds. Tbh Noxious strain is good when you're enemies are zergs but you unlock the evolution mission on Korhal which is a Terran-only planet.
I did its really good when its toxic
To me, I would choose nox because I figure if you're good enough, you don't have to worry about losing ultralisks
Tissue Assimilation covers for them defensively, so I typically choose Noxious for the raw DPS
Mensk created The Torasque. Good job, genius.
Strangely though there was a torasque in the final ued mission that keeps spawning until u kill the celebrate
Abathur created it.
"Stop them, or the Emperor will have your heads!"...I think the ultie has first claim on the beheading, dude.. :-)
Torrasque all the way. The nostalgia alone is enough, and those things are beast.
Noxious= more damage
Torrasque= more lives
5deathburger no shit sherlock
more lives = more damage.
Noxius would be best suited for speedrunner.
Torrasque are good because Ultralisks are a bit costly, and the Torrasque saves minerals that can be saved or spent on rebuilding your army.
In a nutshell.
5:59
They not even target the Ultralisk, that nuke go right into the buildings
Torrasque was my personal favorite every time i played Heart of the Swarm (And i replayed that campaign many times)
"The emperor will have your head" honestly that would be a cleaner death than being burned to death by acid and suffocating by noxious gas.
5:09 i guess the bridge appears because... one terran REALLY wants some close up pics of an ultra?
naah just a stupid plothole
ah they are modern americans you say, no matter tha danger "i must take a pictuer and post it on face book"
It is a sensor bridge, will appears whenever anythings come close =))
maybe kerrigan herself used her psionics to move the bridge...
good choice Jake, Torrasque have the ability to revive self over and over again. That means if you have only some ultralisks, u can use it to attack a base (but u need to keep the ultralisks save before they can revive again) and you still have the ultralisk. torrasque = OP
yeah, Ultralisk does not easy to make, Torrasque saves a lot of resources for zerglings and banelings
The incompetence displayed in this video hurts me. There are no excuses.
What do you mean?
What do you mean? (2)
Why do terrains always attack in small easy to kill groups ?
Probably one of the worse control of units I have ever seen in a Starcraft campaign
Seriously I was about to ask if he's playing on a touch screen.
@@booradley6832 that was not bad if that's his first time playing starcraft
@@hassanawdi3793at around 6:25 he literally commanded one of his ultralisks to kill another ultralisk cocoon. Like he can't even A-move properly, his micro is repeatedly making his ultras walk into enemy units. Even as a newbie pressing a and clicking wasn't out of my depth.
The Ultralisk is basically an elephant from hell (a hellephant?)
Hahahahahahahahaha , i think it s more like a rino-elephant-bull-even horse creture
Rhino + Elephant= Elephino
The micro frustrates me lol
It’s worse than A moving. Jesus
Ultralisk: HELP IM STUCK!!
Kerrigan: be free
Ultralisk: ok
Did...did you just attack your own ultra? (06:15)
Rawkit_Surgeon He did twice.
lol, would be funny af if there's a mod that makes them as big in the cinematic cutscenes. xD
there is :)
"Contain those apartment building sized spike monsters!"
the marine in the beginning will be disintegrated lol
So many people are choosing Torrasque but for me Noxious is the way to go for obvious reasons:
Ultralisks are not dying that easily unless you send bunch of them and sit back and watch without support, healed by Mend they survive easily and on top of that in addition to splash they deal insane amount of damage and you easy kill enemies before they can kill you. It is just more fun to play with Noxious and watch them die :)
5:18 I suposse this guy is the Viking from the trailer?
Noxius - A bio and/or clumped army's worst nightmare
Torrasque - click attack command and sit back
which is better,
a strain that allows you to do DOT?
or
a strain that is immortal if it is untouched for a while
problem with this evolution path was that there really isnt a good reason not to take Torusque. most of the others have one we might prefer, but reviving a massive and expensive unit at will is just too valuable
6:22 did you attack your own units? Wtf on every level?

Exactly and they already do a good amount of splash damage, so why should I take the other one.
FIRE THE DAMM WARHEAD NOW!
Mengsk sounded quite desperate when he shouted that quote, it also revealed how far he was willing to go to keep Kerrigan from killing him.
for someone Kerrigan called "the most cunning man i know", Mengsk sure love use the same warhead that show no effect again enemy over and over.
you just need push "A" and put it near enermies
Torrasque is totally OP, like when you try to Ultralisk Rush with that strain : "ULTRA-UNSTOPPABLE"
Ultralisks are only units able to survive in last mission.
Yo, when I played through this campaign I had no idea what a Terrasque is, but now I know and that’s a great reference!
0:58 Without Kerrigan's pep talk, that Ultra would have never tried to break out with all its might. He might half-try, but that's about it.
"Contain those specimens, or the Emperor will have your head!"
"He wants to go diving down an ultralisk's maw for it, he's welcome to-"
Also, Mengsk's response to the ultralisks not going down to a nuclear warhead is to fire another one? What was the word for doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result?
Well, he doesn’t know the hp bars of the ultralisk, nor does he has your camera view, and cannot be sure he didn’t miss the first ones.
Considering all your other damage options, why wouldn't you choose the double HP battering ram?
Poor ultralisks dead by lame micro q.q
BlueDiamond Who gives a fuck its a tutorial mission.
Ultralisk lives matter
why does a research facility that contains giant behemoth beast only has some marines to guard it
mengsk goin all dj kalid on that torasque mission. UNADA ONE, ONADA ONE! ahahaha
Its weird how some of these picks are so obvious and some are pretty hard to pick.
"...it got back up...AWWW THAT AIN'T RIGHT!"
in brood war the torasqe had ridiculous durability a max out marine or zealot can barely hurt it with its hight durability it was unstoppable and only heavy hitting enemies can hurt it. but in this vid the torasque can revive back but probably has same stats as a normal ultralisk
Higher health, movement speed, attack speed, damage, and armor shit was OP
Thats the voice of Anub'arak from warcraft
For me the Ultralisk design in the first game was MUCH scarier!!!
In russian translation the first type was called toxilisk.
Dominion viking right before being slaughtered: "Huh, these look funny."
Trailer ultralisk: stomps marine to death
Gameplay ultralisk: slaps marine thrice
Abathur’s voice is so amazing
Mengsk has no banshees?
Aparently No.
Maybe not available atm there is a planetary invasion if you remember
@@marcoboscarol2420 Exactly
Never mess with ultralisks
Just scrolling along and I see "Torrasque" ima stop and click. Fuck I miss these games.
Noxious: i like that area damage.
Torrasque: Good for saving resources
I choose Torrasque , i already used kerrigan respawn of zergling (swarmlings) and now infinite ultras, i was cheap , kept healing up and just kept advancing .
Noxious = Deadly Ultralisk Farts
Torrasque = I LIVED BITCH
Why is he attacking his own ultralisk?
Maybe to put them in the down state so they can come back full health mybest guess
Attack of the Big Friends
Before then the ultralisk was powerful. Now, it's just overkill on another level

Torrasque? Is that the hero from SC1
yes

the dominions have metroid
also does anyone remember Command and conquer or dawn of war
Weak micro
The Ultralisk in SC2 looks so goofy, I prefer the one in SC1
4:27 classic
This mission... Yeah, the Ultralisk was fully aware, yet didn't have the strength to break through until it heard Kerrigan. Then it magically had enough strength.
Of course, a fully aware Ultralisk would be guarded by a single marine. No automated turrets would ever be installed.
And the writing... "Hear me, Ultralisk"... That's like for the smallest of kids. Wouldn't is sound much, much better if they made a tiny change, like "Hear me, mighty one" or something? We all know she is talking to the Ultralisk... Either give it a name, or make the writing convey something (the "mighty one" example would at least tell that Kerrigan acknowledges the beast's power).
It may have been drugged or was being prepped for an experiment, which is why it was isolated and less heavily guarded.
Massive extra damage or forcing the enemy to have to kill an ultralisk twice, and even faster the second time?
Was easy the first time I played hots, but as the years go, I'm finding the choice harder to make...
Whasn't Torrasque a Hero in Brood War?
Also I found satisfying how you didn't lose if those died, you could take them in battle without to worry.
@laz kar the old ovemind was behind every cerebrate resurrección, in broodwar the young overmind still can't do that, this is why the UED managed to kill them
i have never played these games, i just found out about em by a animation by carbot. But they look like a fun alternative to the general genres.
That’s what they get for trapping such beautiful peaceful creatures
Literally all Mengsk had to do to stop this rampage was to call in 12 banshees.
So do the Torrasque strain never die?
6:45 if you destroy that car a marine will come out saying
My car man I just paid for that thing off!
How would an Ultralisk fare against Godzilla 2021 or that is the Japanese Heisei or Millennium era Godzillas ... given if radiation can mutate Ultralisks into Torrasques courtesy of Abathur
Anyone else went “DUDE BURROW YOUR ULTRALISKS ARE DYING”

Ultralisk are just an overgrown zergling, change my mind.
You have 3 Ultralisks but in the first cutscene you have 4. nice.
In the Cinematic they are Huge but here they need 2 hits to kill a marine
Ultralisk = Zerg version of Mountain Giant
Not really, ultralisks can be countered
