  • Join us on our continuing Grand Adventure in our RV! In this episode we're in southern Utah and northern Arizona for a few days of boondocking and sightseeing on either side of the state border, camping on Lone Rock Beach in Big Water, exploring Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the lost town of Paria, heading underground in Antelope Canyon, cooking Thanksgiving dinner in the RV, taking a little 4x4 trip to Alstrom Point for stunning views of the lake, and trying our luck at the lottery to hike The Wave.
    Filmed Nov. 21-24, 2017.

    ABOUT US
    Welcome to Grand Adventure, a RUclips channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
    We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on RUclips, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!

    Another thing to do in Page AZ is to take a rafting trip from the base of the dam down through the canyon. You exit just before the bad rapids going through the Grand Canyon. Some of the cliffs are over 1,000 feet. Just beautiful.

    I camped at Lone Rock in 2007 on a 7,000 mile motorcycle trip. Fished in the lake and toured the area, including Monument Valley. However, the most beautiful thing I saw in the area was Canyon de Chelly just to the east of Monument Valley.

      You'd be fine. My tire failure was due to tires that were at the point of replacement anyway, and mobbing around those roads like a bat out of hell. Eliminate either of those factors and nothing would've happened.

      @@GrandAdventure Holy smoke bro - happens to the best of us. I guess it rubs both ways - Grace tells me our pupster gives BOTH of us unconditional love! Many, MANY moons ago I was on a houseboat on Lake Powell, went swimming and had a "few" midday toddies before taking a nap by the beach. Unfortunately the sun was beating down in July and the top of my feet turned beet-red, so when I woke up I realized I had a real problem. 10 days later I was able to start wearing shoes again - not my finest hour. Marc, I'm not so sure we get wiser but we definitely have stories to tell...

      Appreciate it! Some friends went down a few weeks later and scored a Wave permit on the first try...for the second time. Grrrrrr! As for Antelope Canyon, I must caution you that it's a real shitshow. It was terribly difficult to get shots without people in them. I've done slots before (Ding & Dang Canyons, etc. - on our own, of course) and barely encountered anyone else. There were several hundred people in Antelope, which was only a few hundred yards long. I'm glad I saw it but I don't feel the need to ever do so again.

    Beautiful video …. I see that you have used drone footage. I was surprised; what determines where you can and where you can't fly your drone? I believe it is not possible in National Parks, correct? Maybe you are on BLM land here and in other videos? Please let me know … and what drone do you use? Thanks

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 лет назад +3

      Thank you, Susan! We use a DJI Mavic Pro, and covered this drone and how we use it in our Episode 85: ruclips.net/video/uT7NTiopOww/видео.html . It all depends on the FAA's classification of the airspace within which you're flying, which relies upon airspace maps. Only the FAA has the authority to regulate airspace; what entities like the National Park Service have the ability to regulate is whether or not they allow take-offs and landings from land they manage. National Parks are, indeed, off limits for that; however, you can still film National Parks if you take off from and return to land outside of the National Park. Our drone's range is 4.3 miles. You also face restrictions within 5 miles of any airport. The majority of publicly-managed land in rural areas, though, is completely legal for flying, including National Forest and BLM land. Apps like DJI's flight app (called DJI Go) and AirMap use geo-fencing to show where flight is legal and where it is not, and will warn you (or in some cases even block you) if you try to launch from restricted land.
