Dreamworks wanted to show the termite queen and how she died in the movie but that would be too traumatizing for a animation made for kids so they decided to let her die offscreen, in the original script,the soldier ants managed to enter the termite mound,killing the workers who were hiding inside the nest and reach the queen,the queen exploded herself,killing the remaining soldier ants with her.

If so this shows he's a foil to General Mandible despite not appearing on screen. He uses legitimate tactics instead of sending troops to the meat-grinder, loves his queen (he's her husband), knows the importance of workers (someone had do make this trap den), and if real termites are anything to go by he's the size of a worker, showing he values more then brawn.

I like how theyve made the soldiers look more aggressive, bigger, stronger, better looking and more masculine compared to the workers.
