The Dominican Republic, one of the most beautiful places on this planet, with some of the best beaches, landscapes, rivers and mountains you can possibly imagine; friendly people, great social life, incredible gastronomy, things to do and places to go 24/7, and, on top that, social, political, and economic stability (3 attributes very rarely combined); we are right now the seventh strongest economy in Latin America, with foreign investors pouring from all over because of the 3 factors above mentioned.
All of that might look good on a bumper sticker but doesn't paper over all the poverty that you can see when you take the teleferico. In terms of square foot that poverty covers Naco, Piantini and, well, the entire Distrito Nacional more than ten times over and that's just in Santo Domingo. Admittedly, Santo Domingo is a extreme case because all the economic activity and the "low skilled" labor it attracts relative to the rest of the country but other provinces have similar pockets of poverty and arrabalización. The people there don't have places to go "24/7". That we're the "7th strongest economy" in the region also means little to them in their daily life.
@@rontheroninwhat change? Do political propaganda somewhere else bro 😂😂
I’m a NYC girl living in Atlanta and have Dominican parents, lived and went to school there as a young adult…. I’m also very well traveled…. In my life’s experience I’ve noticed that you can’t listen to people. Some people can live in the most beautiful place, have the best life and still see the negative in everything…. And vice versa…. It’s a mindset…. Btw you’re starting to look more and more Dominican my friend 😂 ❤😊
Exactly James. My view’s is; let the Dominican people worry about the negative aspects of their country. My wife and her family knows how to navigate everyday levity there. When I finally move there, my job is to make me happy; and create the conditions so she can be happy. I just don’t see why I should be seeing doom y glom in such a beautiful country. No way brother. 👍👍👍
Dee, I wish i would had thought to say this "let Dominican people worry about the negative aspects of their country". Brother that's spot on. That's really how I feel. It's not for me to worry about. I can't fix it, I can't vote for the person to fix, so leave it alone. And as you say instead focus on creating condition to make you happy and at peace. Damn, I should have consulted with you before making this video😅
@@JayAbroad I have come to realize years ago James. Life is easy don’t complicate it; 👍👍👍
@Dee-pj7hh facts. I say this all the time. Thanks for thr title of a future video.

I FIT RIGHT IN, LIKE A GLOVE. MOST PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS DOMINICAN. 😂😂😂😂
Ah home boy we kickin a lot of people our of our land. People that don’t respect our coulture . Comin this week. Watch the internet news not those pay chanels.
@maximoarias-dn8kw ...I hated my country so much. It was very very easy for me to mentally......become a Dominican. When I started thinking & acting like a Dominican , it was very easy for me to fit in there. .....STOP, STOP, STOP, THINKING & ACTING LIKE A NORTH AMERICAN , AND YOU'LL BE OK.........THE END.

@@JayAbroad Hey Jay buddy.. I was wondering. I wanted to talk to an experienced person about ideas and advice about move to DR. Someone that speaks english. Would you be open to giving me an email address i can ask some questions to ya?
@@PolishBehemoth iamjayabroad@gmail.com
@@JayAbroad thanks bro. bless you man.
On my first trip to DR and this brothas channel has inspired me along my journey. First time is Punta Cana but I definitely have aspirations to sit down and consult with him and the First Lady. Mad respect ✊🏽!
Thanks fam, glad the channel has been helpful 👍🏾
I had a chance to ride when I was in SD., we couldn’t ride back bc it started raining/thunder. Had to get a cab back to the car. Enjoyed the view of the
different areas.
Glad you had the chance to experience it.
I loved the DR 🇩🇴
You know what I love about your channel? It’s always about family, uplifting ones self, not many channels do that, you spitting games on how to work as a team towards your goals, y’all a power couple, protect y’all marriage at all cost❤
Thanks bro, I appreciate this observation. I just want to to show people a different perspective.
@@JayAbroad the best perspective it’s not all about tail, I love seeing Family and husband and wife working together to make everything great!!!
Jay you can not say any better than what you said . A couple of years ago on your wife channel maybe one of your first videos with her you was a little critical about some of the food and places in dr but you have grown for the better my man love you guys you represent the dr better than most of us Dominicans .
I don't remember this video. I've never been critical of Dominican food because love it. And the only place I've been critical of is Sosua. I'm confused.
Muchas gracias por mostrar las cosas bellas de mi Pais
De nada👌🏾
Thank you so much , keep up your positive messages about the DR . More people need to get to know this beautiful country. I’m really tired of seeing videos of Vlogs sending the wrong message about the North Shore, Yes it’s beautiful and yes there are beautiful women there .. I dislike when they show the walking videos showing women’s booties like these women are trash . As a woman myself it offends me and regardless of any woman’s situation it shouldn’t be exploited. Love your channel and I love your wife’s channel as well !
Nice to see a beautiful couple enjoying LIFE!! 🙌👏👌
You're welcome. I feel it's important to point out the fact not all of the women are like that. Thank you for the support of both channels.
BROTHA JAY ALWAYS GOT THE BEST VIDEOS … KEEP POSTING BRO🙏🏽💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thank you fam. Really appreciate that.
Bro I watched a video earlier this morning which helped with my mind state in regards to the driving in the Dominican Republic, in the video dude takked about changing your state of mind and what you are customed to. He explained the driving there is done with respect and it's how you view it..Blew me a way.Jay you're right mind state is the key. Question how long is the ride from begining to end?
hmmm i never thought driving in DR would require changing and altering your mindset. However, in usa i already drive fast and make quick movements so it was a quick fix for me anyway.
The ride from beginning to end is like 15 minutes
My husband, who is not Dominican and learned how to drive in the US, LOVES driving in the DR. He finds it entertaining and that you actually have to use your common sense rather than just following the signs like a drone (people don’t even look to the sides in the US!).
I ❤ Santo Domingo Is nice city congratulations brother.
Yessiiirr Santo Domingo is my favorite city here.
Great video 📹 👍
Thanks 👍
Excellent brother
Thanks fam.
What up Jay...Big fan my brother. Your information in your videos is very informative. Thanks
My pleasure. I appreciate the feedback 🙏🏾
Great video, man! I'm. Looking forward to trying out that teleferico. Seems like a good way to bypass that SD traffic.
Thanks, bro. If you need to travel to those areas where the stations are it definitely the best way to avoid the traffic
Great video again Jay,thanks..
Glad you enjoyed it. You're welcome.
I applaud the mindset brother its the freedom we want to work and live a certain way 🇩🇴🌎 ….

Adding this to my to do list.
I really love your videos, thank you for talking like this about not just the country but in general really love your thoughts, i pass by charles when i come from the airport i live in SD Norte by the embassy. 👏 thank you
You're welcome brother. I appreciate the support. So you over there by Ave Colombia...
I have to say that the most friendly, kind, humble and noble Dominicans can be found in the small towns outside of the big cities - I have been impressed with the people in Samana, and I hear the same about the people in other little towns - Cabrera, Río San Juan, etc. I was raised in Santo Domingo, and there I know, in good Spanish, “el que no corre vuela”. Would love to know if you or your wife have experienced any of that.
I haven't been to some of the towns you mentioned except Samana. And I like Samana and yes the people are more humble.
Good video keep em coming.
Thanks, will do!
Didn't know she had a Spanish channel, I need to start one just before I get there.
Yes she does.
Love the channel, brother, just started listening, I'm a full fledged dominican, meaning mother and father lived in bosyon lost of my life but now, for the last 3 yrs I really started to love my country , and thanks to you for your videos and perspective, I truly appreciated even more. Looking to definitely retire in DR. Another 5 more yrs. With God first. Thank you
Thanks for supporting the videos. Definitely, a good place to retire. Glad the videos have been helpful.
I think you’re spot on re: shift in perspective & focus on positivity. However, while some persons are negative by nature, I think that others are actually being defensive (based on some comments that I’ve seen, as opposed to intentionally negative). What I mean is, when they see & hear content about why others are leaving the U.S. for various reasons, some may see it as criticism, in favour of another place, then feel a need to come to the comments to highlight all the negative aspects of the other country, as a form of defence. I see it a lot on various channels. Otherwise, best of success on your journey 💯
Yessiiirr thanks for sharing👌🏾
DR is part of my retirement plan
Good choice.
Well done 👏 as Dominican 🇩🇴, thank you so much!
My pleasure bro🙏
Hey Jay, thanks for another great video, preciate it. You and Norberis have a way of taking ordinary stuff and creating learning ops, special stuff bro. Keep on keepin om💪🏾
You're welcome brother. And I appreciate you recognizing and continuing to show support for both channels not just financially but through watching and video engagement.
@@JayAbroad the content is what draws the viewers, it's well thought out, informative and instruct full. And it has a good flow. I will stay on and will keep watching.

I m Dominican and I live in United States American ❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙌🏾🙏🏾
The one on puerta plata is the scary one😂😂😂. That thing goes high
Yep, I was terrified when I did that one..lol
OMG 🙄 I have offered to bring people with me when I travel to DR, because they tend to focus what they hear on the news. The only time you hear about DR on the news is when a fatal event occurred, which scares people from traveling. Peace of mind is important to me at this stage of my life and I've found the good out weighs the bad. Just compare rent in NYC to rent in Puerto Plata and you'll know what I mean
The good here outweighs the bad all day everyday and twice on Sundays 😅
@@JayAbroad
🤣😂🤣 kno that's rite !
Always a good representación of my country.
Thanks!

I rode that in Medillin….
Medellin is a gorgeous city, and the people there are great. But it's way too dangerous, almost deadly for me.
I heard the one in Medellin are way up there😅
@@richardm6104 I can see that being true when I was there…
Hi Jay, once again great video, I like the way you express yourself and all the positive things you bring to the table. Beautiful family, make more videos with your family, blessings!!
Yessiiirr, will do.
I love SD but traffic in SD is crazy tho
It is, have become use to it now.
Thank you Jay! I love your content and encouragement. I miss the DR, and I wish I was not as fearful to leave the comfort zone. Keep it up brother - you’re doing great! BTW, Im from Villa Mella, so we may run into one another in SDN any of these days. 😂
You are so welcome. I appreciate that. Are you saying Villa Mella is your comfort zone?
@@JayAbroad I live in the US now, but I grew up in Villa Mella. That’s where I still have some family. Have you adopted any Dominican habits, mannerisms or cultural norms? Also, does it concern you that the DR could be marching towards what you ran away from in the US? I see the seeds being planted.
@Andy.D. the only bad habits I can see I've picked up on it the bad driving 😅. Everything else I can see where I've changed. And yes I can see the DR headed that way however 1) I think it will take a decade or more to actually get anywhere close to the US. By then I'll be an old man...lol! And 2) DR has an identity that I don't believe would allow them to stray too far away from it. America doesn't have an identity. It's all based on individualism
Great video with great information, thank you for sharing. How does it feel when you are up there, can you feel the movement, is scary ? I’m afraid of heights, but I would like to know how does it feels because I’m curious to try it. $25 pesos is cheap, I’m assuming people are not complaining about the rate.
It feels like you are floating. It doesn't rock like one would think. I was terrified when I first tried it but I've been on it many times now and I feel fine. You should give it a try.
@@JayAbroad great, thanks
My house is literally 2 blocks from the start

Yes, you have to get better on your spanish.
At first I heard you say " Teleferico".
I knew what you were talking about.
But I didn't understand you.
Anyway, like you said....
I don't want to be critical.
(Well also "El Caminito"! )
Thanks for sharing.
P.S. I think you decided to try El Teleferico
Because you've seen the guy Kurt Caz from West Africa.
He goes everywhere.
Don't do what he does.
He can survive.
I am not sure about you.
Also on a side note:
The women. MMM. MMM. MMM
That's why people like you need to stop thinking so much and pay attention to what people are saying. That way, you dont waste your time typing dumb comments. I mentioned why I was at the Teleferico and that I've been on it many times. I don't even know who this guy is you're talking about, nor do I care. Brother, I do what I want. I'm in no way influenced by anyone. Take your own advice and be a better human being.🤡
Hey brother can you do an video on banking and your best banking experiences there in Dr and who to trust or not to trust???
I honestly don't have a lot to say on this topic other than speaking what are some banks I recommend.
Hey, Jay, how was that? Do you agree with me?
I think you are spot on👍🏾
Tell me about the music? Have you started to like any of the local music? Have your wife taught you to dance merengue, bachata, salsa? Gotta know those things to get your Dominican passport.
Love the music brother. I love pretty much everything about the culture that is important to me.
Have you already visited the new world trade center? man this is incredible💪🏼🇩🇴
Brother, that place is not complete, no reason to visit it yet.
Jay do you plan on visiting other countries in the future like southern European countries like spain and Malta?
Yes we do plan to do some traveling.
Do you know which countries you're visiting? I would for you and your wife to do vlogs when you travel!
I don't know at the moment.
What’s good Jay. How long did it take you to learn Spanish out there?
I was playing my Spanish isn't perfect. I still got a lot to learn. I think if you really focus on learning you can do it in 6 months especially if you already know somethings.
10 months for me to learn...but I still make some mistskes......🤦🏾♂️ 🤦🏾♂️
@@andreturner8292 I really need to buckle down and learn.
It's La Padre Castellanos or La 17 James.
Yep, I appreciate that.
Let's trade, I will help your Spanish while you show us the must see sites for Caribbean people.😊
😅
I serious, my dates are set and my schedule is coming together nicely.
Jay is Healthcare free in the Dominican Republic?
It is not but there's a health insurance managed by the govermernt (SENASA)>>>stands for Seguro Nacional de salud, which is accessible and cheaper to most citizens. The rest of the health insurances are more expensive.
I think the public healthcare is free but I don't advise this. As a foreigner especially I recommend private insurance.
Jay . in the united stated what's your favorite city ?
I don't have a favorite but there are a few I like. I like Miami, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. I would live in either. That because I visited there.
I think, I've been following your wife for a few yrs. Now??????
We both appreciate the support. Thanks!
@JayAbroad .....you're welcome bro. I'm looking to buy some land somewhere along the north coast. Also I'll be starting my own youtube channel when I get there.
I'm from D.C.
@andreturner8292 it's definitely a lot of land on the northcoast. A youtube channel can be a good revenue source but in my opinion it has to be done right not to mention take seriously if one plans to make money from it.
@JayAbroad yes I agree brother 100%
But I'm also trying to buy a 4 to 6 unit apartment building so I can have some American money coming into my bank account. Plus my retirement money on top of that. I should be ok......if my plans works....but time will tell.
Hi Good Afternoon Mr. Jay how are you? I am a 23 year old guy. Recently got my Bachelors degree in Accounting I would like to ask if you know any Company who’s currently hiring remotely please.
