- In this video, I show you how I create a pattern for a particular knife. This style of knife sheath is called a pancake knife sheath.
We do have a video showing how we make a completed sheath using patterns we have created. You can watch that video here:

Thank you for showing your process.
Brilliant really useful. UK
That was awesome! And the easiest explanation I have ever heard so far. Short, east, sweet.
Saludos👍👍👍
Awesome video thanks. What size leather do you use for yours. Front and backing?
Another excellent tutorial by Don the legend G. Thanks for the valuable information.
Ok so if It’s for an 1.5 inch belt, would I use a 1.5 oblong or go up to 1.75” ??
I used your video to make a pancake knife sheath for my small edc fixed blade. Turned out great! Best one I’ve made to date thanks to your awesome videos. Did the basket weave stamp with the olive oil finish and sealed with Tan Kote. Thanks for teaching us all your tips and tricks.
Dumb question... Why is the slot not still straight up and down?
Have you done a demo of an extremely canted pancake sheath .
Don, thanks for your professionalism! Youexplain it so well.
Really enjoy watching your videos!!! They're so educational, I have learned a lot!!! Thanks for sharing.
Holy smokes, what happened to your pinky finger?? Tx for da vid! :)
Thanks for this video! It’s exactly what I was looking for.
3/8ths even for something thicker like a Leatherman? Awesome video!
Not to say this is how Don would do it, but when I make cases for Leathermans I measure the thickness let’s just say it’s an inch thick I would divide that in half so your stitch lines would be 1/2 away on both sides. I normally give myself some extra room on the first one and adjust from there.
To be fair a leatherman isnt a "normal" sized knife.. its usually a multi tool, so Dons ⅜" rule may not apply towards that lol with normal flip knives id say the rule is applicable.
Exactly what Powell said. Measure the thickness & take 1/2 that. That is how far out from the outline to make your stitch line. I've done that for multi-tools & same way I lay out the lines for a gun holster.
Fantastic tutorial! Super helpful
Hello, I'm somewhat ready to get them patterns from you. Sometime this week I will get them. Thanks!🙂🙋♀
I hope you didn't waste your money as I did.
@@gordonhood6265 what makes you say that?
Thanks, I made one of these a couple of months back and lost my pattern. Thanks to you it jogged my memory and I'll be able to make more of these. I like the basket weave with the barbed wire border.
I'm working on making a pancake sheath for my leatherman wave. Where the 3/8" stitch line works for the smaller knives should I up it to 1/4 or 5/8 for the style of knife I'm working on?
Great instruction. I have wanted to make one for my leatherman and now I know how to start! Thanks
thanks for all of the informations. these sre very helpfull. enjoy your working :)
Shoulda used a sharpie. Cant see the lines.
Thank you for a great video Don. Is there an ideal ratio for the knife stitch line to the thickness of the knife? I’m trying to determine when the 3/8” might need to be greater or less.
Thank you! Would love to see a similar tutorial for scout/horizontal carry.
Can you make this kind of sheath for longer fixed blade
Nice my friend what size leather do you use
Thanks Don. Informative video as usual. A great help
Don, could you do a full video on making a fire helmet leather shield for all the first responders!
Great video. Wish you'd done it a month ago, when I had a customer want a sheath for a short, fat pocket flashlight. I probably lost (more) hair, figuring that thing out!
multicolored pen....SMART!!
Great explanation and example. Thanks for posting!
Excellent video, thanks !
Great video
Good teaching
Bro thanks alot 🙏
Great video!!! ✌
Thanks Don!
👍
What oblong punch is that? Got a link?
I think in a previous video he said it was a cs Osborne which you can buy from there website which they are 4 weeks behind right now and weaver also sells them which they are on backorder
I was able to order a CS Osborne 2" on Amazon last week, approximately 5 days from order to received. I've used a 1 3/4" prior to that, but it can be a little tight on a 1 1/2" belt if it's a good weight like he makes & sells the material packs for.
dont you realize that we cant see the lines you are sketching?
Perfect! Exactly what I needed thank you!
