Were they ever going to? Sims4 has been out for years and people have been trying to replicate them the whole time. If they cared to do it, I think they would’ve done it by now.

Its super annoying because the platform way of making them saves you zero space so its just for the aesthetic of having it at that point

Tried to use the rounded platform inside a room and it creates some weird shadow design on the platform when you place a roof down. So frustrating 😫

It would be so nice if we could use the space underneath the platforms. We could put a bed high up on a platform and put a desk under it for example. It'd be great for smaller builds or idk builds in general...
AKA to make proper lofted areas.

You have no idea how much this helped me. I usually play on controller on my Xbox but I got a nice keyboard and mouse for Christmas, so now I use that! It’s a lot easier but there was a few buttons I did not know how to use.

I really want a Broadway style theater. Rounded stage, orchestra pit, tiered seating, in the foyer raised platforms for the program sellers, a sunken bar area, ticket booth, a concession stand.
It would look so awesome now. Previously it just looked flat.

Made me think of a water tank house disguised. You could make it on a mountain top.
As i said countless times, this platform tool allows what the contrainfloorelevation cheat allowed JUST SO MUCH EASIER. Also, a good tip, if you don't want your walls to disappear when you place platforms, turn what you want to raise or deepen into a room with a wall or a fence and then use those arrows in the window that opens up when you click on the room. Once you're done, you can delete the walls you just created and none of the walls or decorations you had previously will have disappeared. This is much better than building a platform on an existing room because that Would make your walls disappear.
I actually worked this out yesterday and was so relieved there was a way around it as it was getting super annoying.
it's so so good to see James excited and invigorated in his videos!!! I'm glad this new expansion has been able to put some life back into the game, and honestly back into the community

that circular house thing you can only get in through a hidden basement would actually be so good for a kinda secret bunker kinda thing! I'm so gonna build that! I might even finally use the stupid batuu objects with it because YES to a hidden resistance bunker!
Columns always annoy me because of that bug with when you put them on a wall and sometimes the column doesn’t go up on corners😩. I love❤️ that we can do split levelling now however I think it would’ve be cool if we could duplicate (or delete platforms base) floor and move platform up so we could use space underneath platform. So in one room can kitchen at bottom underneath a bed area (probably need medium height wall to do it). Be good for tiny spaces🙂.

I've found that once you placed the stairs you can then move them so that they are over lapping the wall, you just cant place them there in the first place!

Just as a heads up, you can actually change where wall trims start/end!
Basically just cut off the room with a wall where you want the trim to end, then delete the wall! 😊

There's also another issue I had regarding stairs, I don't know if it's new since I haven't been playing for a while.
But when you try to do an open 2nd floor with stairs you create the "room" with the floor you want gone with a fence. But when I place the stairs they won't work because the game considers that the fence on the landing is still here and I have to delete it manually, I don't remember it ever doing that 🤔
I had the same problem, my sims couldn't walk up the stairs anymore

@@mac9733 Maybe they'll fix it, but it took me a while to find out what was the problem, you can do it manually, it's just a click more of work and a bit annoying lol

Platforming is one of the best things they've brought into the sims 4 in a while, have wanted it for so long.

I remember that sims 3 build and the amount of constrain floor elevation work was intense! The lengths we used to go to to make it work!! But I’m glad sims 4 has finally made it easy for us!!!

You can actually just place the stairs and then bring the platform over the landing of the stairs and it'll get rid of that landing part

The real downside of the platforms is that you can't paint the edges. I know you can use half walls but its extra work/hassle/money. Plus then sims can't use the platform/s as stairs because they can't step over the half wall. Hopefully someone makes a mod, if its possible
Edit: I love that you're trying to show us the update and have already found several bugs with it...
But aren't there these plattform trims you can use to color your plattform? They're similar to the foundation trims. They are in the same menue where the wall-tools are.
@@FenyaFirewolf yeah, some of them are nice but if you are trying to blend into a normal wall, they aren’t super helpful. Much like the foundations, I found it difficult to match them. I spent a few hours paying around with it

I swear James, I learn so much from you and Lilsimsie when you build houses. Ive been so reastrained from previous games and stuck in my own funk with "a rectangle build with a corner bathroom" that Ive had trouble building unique things. Thank you and Kayla for giving me good ideas and pushing me out of my build comfort zone.

The fact that we have to work this hard to get the things that we want in the game says a lot.
The bunk bed thing is gonna be so useful cuz my sim just had twins but I don't really have enough room for a desk and 2 beds but with that bunk bed idea I would be able to have both twins sleep at the same time and have a spot to do stuff on the computer and I could even maybe add a bookshelf
Seeing James make the circle house has me thinking: can you make a house look like a can of soda? Can of beans?? Can I live in a heinz beans house???
This is really great but, bunkbeds are usually used for space saving. I really hope the sims team is working on actual bunkbeds. I use cc bunkbeds and can have 8 sims in a tiny house and it's so fun.
I kind of wish we could delete the sides of the platforms so that we could actually do lofts area and such. Yes I know we can do it with new levels and deleting floors but it makes the build so blimmin tall
what I found out while building yesterday is that platforms don't work on the same height lvl as the foundation, which might explain why the stairs don't work..? Loving all the new possibilities that you are now able to build with the platform tool and new half walls !!

Btw james you can put ladders up to platforms. If you put the bunk beds flush against the wall, and had the ladder onto the platform at a 90° angle you could make it look even better

In regards to the stair issue, you have to place the stairs then the adjoining wall. If you place the wall first, well... that happens lol

The one thing I love about the new platforms is that you can make a house on a “foundation” connect to a garage on ground level easier. I did my uncle’s house last night and his house has that setup where you step up into the house from the garage.
This is the moment I've been waiting for
if you remove the ceiling in the basement and then place platforms above it you can have the illusion of a slightly raised basement with windows on the side as well. The windows wont be visible from ground level, but you can see basement details through the windows on the ground floor

what about lowering the "ground floor" to make it the basement, but leaving a little bit sticking out to put the windows? (the entrance to the house would have to be in a little staircase to enter through the floor on top of that)

You should definitely build something using the circle idea, you don't have to do the plain circle but you can use it to create something cool.

The moment Paralives comes out I'm dropping the sims altogether. Quite mad at myself for having as much packs as I do ngl
I think the expansion pack is pretty rubbish. It's got nice aesthetics and very little gameplay, like Island living. But so many good updates came out at the same time that people are associating the good stuff with the pack.
I really hope you build more again now with platforms 🙏🏼 you used cfe so much back in the day and I was obsessed with your builds 😍 I hope it inspires you to get back building all the time again 🙏🏼
James, I had all sorts of problems until I realized we have to plan the levels and floor plan first, and walls are going to have to be put in last. Pain in the - but - it works better.
Another thing I tested with platforms is sunken furniture. As long as the lower platform is only 1 step down your sims can still access the item on it directly from the upper level. I used it to lower a futon bed into the floor to make the legs disappear and to make some semblance of japanese zaisu chairs for a desk or a table. Should also work with sunken tubs, etc.

5:07 And then, I tried to rotate some columns that are in corners because how they're placed by default is weird, but guess what, I couldn't. Apparently, you can only rotate them when the columns are not placed in corners. What's the purpose of that? We were asking to be able to rotate them because the placement is weird. Wtf
Okay, if you are building in diagonal and place some columns, you rotate them at the same angle as the building, okay. Or you want them because it looks better. But what about the corners?? This: 6:48
I think the reason why the platforms are so essential is because they add another level of depth to builds! So nice to see😆
Since the update all my loading screens are 5-10 minutes instead of 10-30 seconds 😭😭😭 Has anyone had the same problem or some advice for me pls ?

I’ve been playing around with platforms all weekend... have more exploring to do. I actually like this bunk bed idea better than the one I did. I did a platform over platform with a ladder.
The bunk bed is now in the sims 4
For the platform paint, there's a platform trims section underneath the half walls and there's a plain one that has loads of colours. Looks so much better than using half walls ☺️

Search up boom boom boi gif and he will pop up. If you are on a ipad, no good get on a computer or Chromebook or whatever, once you have one of those, even a school one will work, back click on the gif you want and click save image as. Name it whatever tf you want just don't change the .gif cause that will ruin it. Then you go to the pfp thingy and click it, change profile picture, upload from computer, and there you go there it is. Now you have a beautiful boom boom boi angry pomeranian, King Explosion Murder whatever tf you wanna call him pfp

For the stairs, I found I had to either drop the height of the lower level by one or remove the wall section.
I wish the platforms could over hang each other but I've been creating chinese inspired housing after watching a Forbidden Palace drama🙂✨
