    We have the same NAA 1954 tractor. Been sitting for years though. This inspires me to drag it out and get it going again.

    That is a 53 jubilee. The two signs I can see are the hydraulic manifold and the front badge. This is if someone has not changed them. That is a 134 ci engine. The later 800, 900 and 801 and 901 series tractors had the 172 ci engines.
    Get your numbers that are stamped in to the block and look it up for it's TRUE year month and date of build.

    Enjoyed the video, been thinking about converting my 1953 Jubilee after watching video I think I'm about ready to do it. One other conversion I see you haven't done is to put on an attachment so you can use a spin on filter, it makes Channing oil a lot easier.

      You won't be sorry made all the difference on mine. Used to have mess with points evey time I tried to use the tractor now just get on it and starts.

    I have a 1953 jubilee, has 70 hrs since total rebuilding. Did this conversion and never have to replace points or condenser ever again.

    Thanks for sharing, one more thing you ought to do is put some oil in the distributor. At the base of the distributor there is a seal that prevents to oil from the engine to lubricate the distributor shaft. It will run dry unless it is oiled through the oil hole.

I can't wait to talk to my dad about this. even is he did this, at least we can use the same lingo for a bit about his favorite toy.       Thanks.. Funny I was just on my ole Ford today.... I needed to pile some brush and do a little box blade work on the driveway, I should have recorded it! BTW I had not started mine in a couple months and it started right so much nicer, but it was smoking like crazy and it was white smoke at first I was like what is going on? Got checking and my oil air filter was totally full of water! We have been getting a lot of rain and my tractor sets outside so it filled it up with water didn't know it could do that anyway once I emptied that the smoke went away... I think I am going to have to change the oil though I think it flooded the engine with water as my oil has water in it now.. I plan on ordering a spin on oil filter kit for it and will make a video of that...

      My dad's sits outside every day. He mentioned his steering wheel could use some work and today, he was not happy that it wasn't running right after he replaced the "resister"? (not sure). spoke about his carburetor and grumbled about side mount and front mount and OHMs...Last few hours I have been cramming like I am getting tested tomorrow. lol. My dad is worth every bit.So, yes, record everything! Share what you got.

    There is this nifty thing called a tripod and it comes in really handy for holding a camera very still. You should try one some time!

    The NAA was only built in 1953 & 1954!
    In 1955 they went to numbers 501, 600, 700, 800, & 900!
    NAA were only produced with a 134 cid overhead valve.
    The 172 cid overhead valve came out on the 800 series!
    DO NOT RUN CHEAP POINTS, OR FILE OR SAND THEM.
    I have had Ford New Holland points in for 15 years, never had that problem. Uncle Jim was using CarQuest points, had the same problems that you described. He said that he could buy 10 sets of CarQuest points for what I paid for the Ford New Holland points.
    The problem is that Ford New Holland have silver contacts! CarQuest do not have silver contacts.
    My NAA sits outside year around. It sits outside the house connected to the WinPower PTO generator. I can go outside at -23°f, turn on the gas, push in the clutch, pull the choke, have the throttle at 3 O’clock, push the starter button! In about 5 minutes, I engage the PTO, in about 5 minutes I bring it up to 1400 RPM, adjust the throttle to set it on the correct cycles per second or hertz.
    Throw the double throw switch on the house, throw the breaker on the generator, readjust the throttle. It will run for hours at 1425 to 1400 RPM.
    I use Cenex 5w 30 motor oil, the transmission, hydraulic, & rear axle are Cenex HTB or John Deere HyGuard.

      Makes total sense I know the points I had in it had to go it couldn't set for a month without me having to mess with them I am totally happy with the electronic point conversion though as I have not had to mess with points for years now... Also just like yours it can set for months when I need it just turn the fuel on hit the starter let it warm up and she will run for days...

      @@TheElectronMan Yes the silver over the contacts is about 0.010” thick.
      I put the Ignitior on a Farmall M, SMTA, 3 IHC 345 V8 pickups and 1 IHC 392 V8 truck, 1 304 V8 truck, 2 345 V8 truck.
      Also 1 IHC 450 inline 6 truck.
      Make sure that you put on a new coil, new ballast resistor, carbon spark plug wires, NO SOLID WIRE spark plug wires.
      Some of these systems have run for 10 to 15 years. Wrong. I put the one on the 392 about 1996. Time flys by when you do not have to work on it. Took a while to figure out how long it had been.

    I've never understood why someone wouldn't leave the points. Cheap and easy to work on. I can change the points 20 times or more for the price of the electronic ignition.

      While true the conversion does cost a little more instead of having to work on the points 20 times in last three years like I would have, I now have had trouble free starts for the past three years and points are a thing in the past. Mind you I had points on it for 15 years years and every time I went to start it would require me messing with points cleaning them filing them re-gaping them. I say pick your poison, because to me my time is much more important than spending an hour trying to get the old tractor to start every time to now just get on it and go. Also I mainly use the tractor to move snow and my fingers thank me for not freezing them off messing with those stupid old points.

      I guess you have to factor in what your time is worth. He's getting a lot of work done with the tractor while you are in the garage changing points 20 times or more.

      As soon as the points begin to wear, which is almost immediately, performance begins to suffer. The electronic ignition kit gives better power, easier starting, and it never changes. I converted mine nearly 20 years ago and haven’t had the distributor cap off since then. And even though my engine has low compression and needs to be rebuilt, in 30 degree weather, I only have to bump the starter, and she’s running smooth. Best money I ever spent.

      @@dttprice my 8n and 640 start with a bump of the starter. Electronic ignition is a great thing. I don't think pertronics does it well. They work great while they work. You may have an pertronics ignition last for years and you may get one that lasts a few months. I am glad that you have gotten a good one. They are the superior system, they just aren't dependable. When they make a good one I will be glad to spend the money on it, until then I will roll with points and keep a $8 dollar spare of points on the shelf if something goes wrong. Keep tractoring.

    With a good battery and cables with clean connections, 12 volt ignition and such, my '54 NAA does turn over nearly as fast as yours. Maybe half that fast. It starts way faster (with points) than yours did at the beginning of this video. Do you have a 6 volt starter and that is why it spins so fast? Mine has never turned over that fast. I wish it did. I do put the clutch to the floor boards before pressing the start button.

      Yes it is a 6v starter I think that is why it spins so fast. But yeah it starts really quick now that I put a new Carb on.

    Nice job. But it seems like the coil can rotate in its clamp, the coil has an electric current between the housing and engine ground. That is why that clamp should be tight.

      Not sure on the 6v coil but this is 12v coil and I don't think the case uses grounding. There is no indication of that and the coil is all painted black which seems if they were going have the case as ground it would not be painted.. Either way I have had zero issues with this conversion..

    That was pretty good one handed, when you are parking it for any length of time, spray some WD40 inside the distributor cap and you will never have a problem with moisture. That would have worked for the points also, but you are past that point.

    You can purchase the correct spark plug wires (carbon graphite)from Summit racing in Ohio

      I just used the spark plug wires that were on it. I did do a tuneup must have been 10 years ago back then I just purchased some spark plus wires from NAPA I think all spark plug wires for the last 30 years have been graphite..

    They should tell you when you buy the kit you must have carbon graphite plug wires or it will damage the unit .IT will not run with solid core (copper or stainless) wires.I got my pertronix from YT.There was no disclaimer that I saw .

    Has that electronic ignition held up over time? I own an 8N and wondering if spending the money to convert to 12 volts and electric ignition will last. My generator is not charging, so it’s either convert or rebuild the old generator.

      5 years and going strong have not had to mess with ignition one time well worth the upgrade to not have to mess with points

    my 12V negative ground 600 has a ballast resistor. Do I need to do anything different than shown in the video?

      I believe that ballast resistor is for the coil so to keep the voltage down.. It shouldn't have anything to do with the electronic ignition..

    only fords built in 1953 are jubilee tractors. later years were given a number designation, 600 800 etc.

      U r correct to an extent. The 54 is actually designated as a naa only. Not jubilee or the 100 series.

    Couple of questions, did you have to keep or put a resistor in and change your plug wires? Their say you need to do that....

      No just what you saw on the video all it takes is two wires hooked up to the coil now mine was already converted to 12v so maybe that makes a difference but no it was super simple plug and go.

      @@MrGalenlcox About 5 years now probably 200 running hours it's the best 100 bucks I have ever spent on my tractor startup is a breeze now. BTW if you are still 6 volt they have version for it to.

      @@TheElectronMan no I converted it over to 12 while back my problem is it keeps burning up the coils so I've got the electronic coming in a day or so I'm going to switch it over to electronic. Steiner tractor just told me it needs the 55,000 hot coil and resistor and new plug wires for electronic ignition.

      @@MrGalenlcox Wow they are full of it I used the stock coil, wires and cap that must be 20+ years old and not one issue ever. They probably don't understand what this unit does it just replaces the points makes them electronic using a hall sensor that is all it does. I do wonder why you are burning up coils though you are using a 12volt coil right if not go get you a 12 volt coil no need for resistors etc.

      Probably a little main thing I really noticed is it lot smoother running and more responsive on acceleration.

      Look for the NAA markings on the engine if it has those than it's a 134ci...

      If it still has the factory generator it's probably still 6 volt positive ground.. The easy way to check for sure is to look at the wire on the positive terminal of the battery follow that wire and see where it connects if it connects to the chassis then you have a positive grounded system..

      No my tractor was already converted to 12 volts so it was just a plug and play..

      Yeah I have never been able to find the serial number so I am just guessing from what I have been told it's a Jubilee for sure and probably a Golden Jubilee as well and yes your are correct it's 53.

    2016 ? That motor needs a rebuild .. it ant suposed to sound like that . Should be as smooth as a kitty's pur .

      I am sure it does it leaks oil more oil than it uses but I just use it smooth the gravel road and move some dirt on occasion and she is doing great for that since the ignition conversation as she starts every time I need it.
