For royal road: To be fair to the authors, sometimes authors getting stuck in corners is not just purely about experience its also just a fact of web fiction that going back and making changes is harder, so its partially just a limit of the medium. (but also RR readers don't have very high standards, so finding decent stuff is hard.)
The insect bite thing - there is an easy remedy that will help a LOT! Turmeric and ginger with piperine/black pepper taken twice daily will reduce the reaction, in many cases eliminating it completely. I take it in capsules, because I don't like the taste of ginger, which works nicely and is easy to bring when going somewhere.
Re: Board Games. What I'm playing these days is Shadows of Brimstone (Flying Frog Games) to fill my dungeon crawling itch. Rock Hard, 1977 (Jackie Fox), a worker Placement game Return to Dark Tower (Restoration Games) for my puzzle solving/strategic needs
The Task Force X game would have been bad EVEN WITHOUT the Live Service elements. If fundamentally does not know how to use Task Force X, respect DC characters, or even deliver the fantasy of the characters you play as. I hate the Task Force, but their fans deserved a better designed game with actual mission variety and actual asymmetrical playstyles. A story that actually plays to their narrative strengths. Fighting Snowflame in Columbia for example! Or doing a bank heist to maintain that they totally aren't working for the US government. Having an amphibious insertion of King Shark into coastal jungles to rip through a certain country's economic sabotage of American currency to finance sanctions evasion.
when you were talking about being allergic to bugs, you might have the same thing lichen does. which is an allergeric reaction to chitin, what bugs is made of. does red 40 in food also cause you problems?
Wander, reading at your pace would be a dream. I'm pretty badly dyslexic and can only manage about 25 pages an hour when I'm in a good rhythm.
