One of the qualities of traditional lever actions that make them so popular is their sleek design, they are usually slim and do not have things sticking out all over the place. Long mags hanging out the bottom, blocky, bulky butt's, flashlights and bulky AR type forends destroy every desirable point for getting a lever action.

The Winchester model 88 has lockking lugs in the breech making high pressure rounds such as .308 Win, 284 Win, 358 Win very safe. The restyled lever actions are not impressing me one bit.

Not a single one of these is side-fed, and I don't understand why that is.
0:01 That's not a lever-action. That's a falling-block. Tom Selleck made that same nomenclatural mistake in 'Quigley Down Under'. The confusion comes from the fact that most falling-blocks and rolling-blocks (like the Sharps, etc.) have cam levers on the underside. But to be a "lever-action," it has to be a repeater. The Winchester models 1887 and 1901 have a hybrid design, mixing lever-action with rolling-block. That's why their receivers are so compact.
    0:53 / 3:16 / 6:20 / 8:47 / 10:00 / 11:11 Why not make them side-fed? Would still be ambidextrous. We "westpaws" would just use a different technique.
1:22 That metal looks blued, not black.
    1:26 That's wood, not polymer.
1:30 If they use detachable mags, then what's the tube under the barrel for?
2:13 Marlin: "Am I a joke to you?"
4:05 You can't legally hunt big game with anything less than .357 Magnum. Right? Is that not the universal standard? If it's not, it should be. Even if it's not codified (pronounced "CODE-ified," not "COD-ified") in law, it should be understood as the humane method.
6:44 Complete waste of ballistic potential.
7:04 There's no reason to use the mag-hold technique outdoors. It's only useful in confined spaces.
7:15 Put some sights on that piece, you!
8:17 Take a look at that levergun right there (which is probably a Marlin or Marlin-adjacent). Look at the compactness of the receiver. Look at the position of the user's hand with the lever forward. Now tell me why no one's ever gotten the brainwave to make a detachable-mag levergun in side-fed configuration. Or top-fed if you prefer.
8:53 They even make a "Mare's Leg" version!
10:00 With an angular lever like that, I can see why it's not side-fed.
11:24 Perfect illustration of why it should be side-fed.
12:34 Notice how you can't press the mag release with the lever forward. You'd have to completely cycle the action after the last shot, reload, then completely cycle the action again. You shouldn't have to do that. You should be able to fire the last shot, push the lever forward, reload, then pull the lever back. Again, why not make it side-fed? Also, what's the point of putting a cartridge holder on the stock of a gun that uses detachable mags?! 🤣
13:40 I'm "balking" (not sure that's the right word) at the lack of imagination here. Not one side-fed levergun! Not a single one! It would clearly be better for some of these designs to be side-fed. Only the ones that give the lever (and by extension, the fingers of the shootin' hand) enough clearance between lever and mag are reasonably configured as bottom-fed designs. Of course, that means the receiver has to be longer. If one wanted to, one could make a semi-bullpup levergun, but only if they were willing to make it side-fed (like an FG-42 which is a semi-bullpup). A shell deflector would be handy to make left-handed use more optimized.

@@tomconnor2529 I mean like the FG-42 or the Johnson 1941 machine gun. Ordinary box mags on the left side, ejection port on the right side. Not once did I cite the Krag-Jorgensen as an example.

@@sorshiaemms5959 Yeah, but it's a cam lever. The term "lever-action" is used to describe a type of repeating action. Break-action shotguns also have cam levers. They're just a different type.

Holy crap. Can some human just read the copy. I DESPISE the AI voicing. And the fake tube on the Derya is funny, but almost required, because so many people insist on the look of the Winchester 94. I’m a Savage Model 99 guy, I think it’s silly, added expense for no reason.

I like the idea of rifle caliber levers, but the full sized mags are unnecessary, in my humble opinion. Higher caliber rounds for elk, bear, and moose would be my preference. .308 or .338 win mag, 6 round capacity, ideal.
Everything else in this video is "range toy" territory.

the first one is "light", of course, it's a 22
the second, for hunting deer ... with 9mm ? that's just cruel, no way you cleanly kill a deer or any game with 9mm
    the third is actualy neat
    the fourth too
the fifth is okay I guess

Nobody calls it twenty two ell arr, it’s called twenty two long rifle. Duh. Why is there a magazine tube under the barrel if it uses a detachable .22 magazine? That 9mm thing is uglier than farting in church. And only 1000.00, wow. No thanks. I’ll stick with my 1873, 1876, 1894 and 1895.

In Wyoming you cannot hunt big game, Deer, Antelope and others in said category because they do not have the stopping power. So check your local hunting regs on usable firearms. And this is yet another stupid AI. Doesn't the creator of this video preview the video, before putting it up? Its not Leever gun, its Lever gun. One E.
