Europe is no where NEAR to catching up with the USA in basketball. Look at the youth level. They are getting DECIMATED by the USA juniors on all levels, both male and female. I think the biggest difference is HOW the game is played by the USA. The Europeans are far less athletic, they are horrible on defense, and they shoot primarily three-pointers. They focus more on the fundamentals while the USA tends to focus more on their athleticism which can get them in trouble in some games. The game has become more PERIMTER-oriented and that is the biggest difrerence. The USA's focus has switched from man-to-man/pressure defenses which gives the Europeans all kinds of hell, to a much more passive ZONE-defense mindset which really bails out European shooters on offense. The USA also does not focus on attacking the basket and putting pressure on the Europeans offensively like they used to. The USA double teams the ball EVERY single possession, which leaves the excellent shooting European teams wide open. It has more to do with the USA's approach or the lack thereof. Look, the USA will ALWAYS dominate the game of basketball like no other country can dominate any other sport. But, they need to get back to basic, FUNDAMENTAL basketball and especially focus more on the mid-range game which no country on the planet can compete with when the USA employs it. I'm kinda eh on this video. The AAU aspect is crucial I think. From what I understand, the kids are being run into the ground, playing games, showcases, and tournaments constantly (so not much time practicing) with the main goal of showing their individual skill. So by the time they make it to the NBA they've already had heavy physical toll. Some stuff this guy says is silly though. Like when he talks about Euros being efficient off-ball then shows a clip of Luka on-ball. The overall narrative presented has a vibe of "Euros aren't as athletic but are taught better fundamentals". I mean, the AAU kids will have to play college, g league, or some other pro league before entering the NBA anyhow. So they get the team experience + better coaching, training, and resources. I think the AAU physical toll is the biggest issue. Don't think Euros are just inherently more cerebral, efficient, or team-oriented. And on the flipside, they aren't any less athletic either lol.
Yea, the original AAU vid is sorta bizarre. Anyone who knows anything about the sport and how it's run in the US is that fundamentals in general are properly taught and are usually mastered as one moves through the levels of amateur basketball.
Aidan's comment at around 4:45 regarding the European players moving constantly and always passing the ball around is fascinating because that's exactly how the NBA teams did it in the 70's and 80's. The NBA changed the rules to stop this because they would pass the ball forever without scoring and the NBA wanted to make the game more exciting with less passing time and more one on one scoring. I stopped watching the NBA a long time ago since they went to their current rules. It just doesn't interest me.
The European defense is tighter and with less games in the EuroLeague players take every game seriously in fear of missing the playoffs, there was a six game differential between the first seed and the team missing the playoff last season, half the NBA games is basically exhibition games and the standings is decided long in advance for most teams. No European until Victor has been hyped up the way he was, even Luka who should have gone first overall was discredited because he lacked athleticism, meanwhile the American guys is told they are top 50 players before being drafted.
The handful of Euros in the NBA are the greatest from Europe/World and playing the greatest basketball league. However, those few and their are a few are not the everyday player. USA will overall always have the best basketball players in a whole.
There are 2 main leagues in the US, high school ball (playing for your high school team) and AAU ball (creating a team from the best players from many different high schools in an area to compete against the best players from other areas/states). High school ball focuses more on team play and fundamentals because you practice together everyday after school. With AAU, you are lucky to get the whole team together 1 time per week because many times the kids live so far apart that some have to drive an hour or more to practice. This is why AAU is more of a pickup ball, 1 on 1, streetball style, and there is a lot more showcasing individual's talents. Because the teams don't have the same sort of time to develop a chemistry or practice specific plays. But either way, US players still get fundamentals from high school and college ball. Just look at the Warriors, not many Europeans and still have good team ball.
Luka is one of the most selfish players in the game right now, whenever he doesn’t have the ball he just stands at the half court and makes no effort to get open. Kind of contradicts the whole “euros are taught how to play team basketball” theory if you ask me
It's also just basketball he described. That was the style of the NBA since the 40s until MJ came in and everyone after that wanted to "be like Mike" and play iso ball.
Luka is one of the best playmakers in the league who frequently sets up his teammates for scoring opportunities. He is one of the most creative and best passers of the ball and is always near the top of the league in assists. It is true that he isn't a great off ball player, but that is not the same thing as being selfish which he is not.
Lots of other star players stand around. The NBA is all about spacing and stretching defenses as wide as they can. It's also rare to see Luka not have the ball, so it's not a bad thing when his teammates get a chance to run some plays or get a chance to score. You don't have to run routes like Korver or Ray Allen to catch n shoot. That's not his game.
I disagree with the video in this instance. Luka is terrible off the ball, embiid played highschool ball in the US so I would hardly consider him a european made player.

Euros have been devoting more and more energy to basketball since the Dream Team. When Europeans and the world as a whole got to see Mike and Larry and Magic and Clyde and David all on the court their dreams of "being like Mike" etc, began. And in this case there are a couple of Bigs who have really benefited from the Curry/GSW Revolution that has stretched the floor and opened the lane beyond anything ever really imagined. But look how long it took them to reach the top- YEARS of getting schooled on the daily, grinding off-season, improving and expanding their skillsets, building the physical strength (Gannis especially), and finally being part of a TEAM strong enough to make it through the playoffs which is like a 2nd NBA season (some would argue it's the real NBA season- just ask Luka). The idea that European players have some "unfair advantage" is an equally pathetic argument. Europeans just adapted their Soccer training/academy system to basketball, which makes a lot of sense. In America, because of our States and Schools having so much variety and authority, there is no clear path to player development until College, and even that can be all over the place. But the main downside of college is that it only lasts 3-4 years. That's not enough time to, for example, teach a Shaquille O'Neal, Deandre Jordan or Dwight Howard, how to handle the ball or shoot properly when they were so physically dominant they never had to learn in the weak middle and high school system we have. And you could substitute ten thousand different names for those three. And then there's AAU. If these NBA players feel so slighted by not having a basketball "academy" or early entry to playing against professionals, as Euros have, then they should TAKE OVER AAU or form a Basketball Only version of AAU, perhaps under the guidance of USA Basketball, and TEACH THE GAME. Right now you have players who haven't been properly COACHED, (think Lebron James), being the role models for young players (think Zion, Jalen Green, etc). There hasn't been a player since Kobe Bryant who would not have had a longer, better NBA career if they had spent at least three years in college. Not one. There's too much focus on the individual at a young age and in the NBA vs European. The amount of times I find myself screaming at the knicks becsuse they're playing isolation ball and everyone is standing around on offense.. drove me nuts. The best example of a well run team was the spurs during their recent dynasty. Just constant movement and passing.
European basketball probably doesn’t get the respect it deserves over here in the States but I still don’t think it’s anywhere near the US in terms of overall talent. You could field 20 teams of the best American NBA players and they would all be good. If you did the same with Europe, the best of them could match up with the best American teams but they would quickly get significantly worse compared to the US the deeper you went.
This guy is purposefully focusing on comparing to AAU basketball and completely ignoring NCAA basketball where it is very much team ball and playing without the ball. Thats the norm in most the NCAA outside of the few powerhouse teams like Duke/Kentucky etc. Just a disingenuous presentation to be able to fit it into his narrative.
@@PapaGG360 what's positive about the lack of ball movement, lack of defense, poor decision making, lack of team play ? Aau teaches nothing but go one on one and try to make a highlight. Flooding is a bit of a stretch. It is merely a tactic the NBA has used for decades. They purposely recruit world wide talent to grow the viewership. Same thing they do now with Europe is what they did years ago with China, and as a result, the NBA grew in popularity in China. Everyone is getting cought up in the present with the likes of Luka and Antetekempo....and has forgotten that this is nothing new...from Ginobli, Nowitski, Gasol and tony parker just a few short years ago, to Mutombo and Yao a few years before that. This is not a flooding, this is what the NBA has always done. Also, the face of the NBA after lebron will not be Jokic or Antetekempo or any player with that style of basketball, not even Luka...the face will alway be a 1v1 type player, with some above average ball handles, who create spectacular dunks and amazing shot blocks. Currently no EU player fits that void.

The amount of times I find myself screaming at the knicks becsuse they're playing isolation ball and everyone is standing around on offense.. drove me nuts.
The best example of a well run team was the spurs during their recent dynasty. Just constant movement and passing.
Heck yeah, Man City jersey. Love Haaland!
Hopefully you guys do a reaction to Vince Carter’s best dunks. In my opinion he’s the greatest dunker ever. Easily top 3. Nique is a close second
Basketball in America => Constant ridiculous 3-point shots
Yea, the original AAU vid has an imbalanced look at the different approaches.
Europeans aren’t taking over the NBA 😂
Maybe not but the last 5 mvps are non americans and wemby who may be the most hyped prospect ever so they arent completely out of it
@@allthingssports4575 bruh shutup
@@allthingssports4575 it wasn’t 5 different Europeans that won it though it’s really only 4 or 5 that have became superstars
Hahaha worst title ever.
@@allthingssports4575 not being completely out of it and taking over are very different things lol. 3 generational talents will do that.
LOL BS VIDEO!! The person or persons recommending these need to be fired or ignored
💯
Don't be mad at facts. Aau is terrible for basketball.
@@elvangulley3210considering that most NBA players even LeBron played AAU that’s definitely not true. Has positives and negatives.
@@PapaGG360 what's positive about the lack of ball movement, lack of defense, poor decision making, lack of team play ? Aau teaches nothing but go one on one and try to make a highlight. That play has infested the nba. Aau has made players coddled, soft, arrogant, and selfish. Then there's the issue of lack of quality with its coaches.
@@elvangulley3210you know they didn’t go straight from aau to the nba right? College ball teaches all about fundamentals and team work.
whether you react to it or it not its worth watching the short youtube video on Luka explaining why its easier to score in the NBA than in Europe
Lol hell no
Are we counting Canadians as international players ?
Idk honestly. I’m guessing yeah. It’s an US league but there is a Canadian team (the raptors) so idk.
Yeah they’re international just not European obviously..
@@PapaGG360 @Stevenmark4407 I'm saying the status of International players taking over the NBA is overstated if you were to include Canadian players.
Let’s be honest there is no difference between Americans and Canadiens they don’t count
Currently no EU player fits that void.
this is a long stretch of nonsense
@@nh3028 love that u have 30 something 10 second videos of u playing fifa on your channel. Super cool...
Kobe mixtape
this video describes melo to a T lol. He can score - but garbage at everything else.
European players play fundamental basketball and it’s boring to watch and the American players play flashy basketball and it’s not fundamentally basketball but better to watch
That’s just a stereotype. Turn on any college game and it’s all fundamentals and team ball
@@tako4mvp719 The college game is fundamentally sound but it’s not the NBA and I grew up watching playing fundamentally sound, The NBA has to be entertaining to sale their product
Eventually euroe will have a bigger talent pool to choose form... And will have more players in the NBA. Probably more than Americans
Negative lol
Strongly disagree 😂
Europeans will never “take over the nba”
