My Aunt always added pine needles to up the acidity for the blueberries. She got wonderful berries and made the best pies.

I just found your channel and heard you mention being in the Pacific NW.I'm not sure exactly where you are but I live south of Tacoma and Puyallup and we haven't had snow for a week or so. It is good to have a channel to follow that is in my climate zone. This video will help me a lot as I have about 15 blue berry bushes. I'm going to watch your pruning video next.

Thank you for this video. I just ordered my first blueberry plants and am learning to keep them happy and producing. So far all of the videos were on the ph issue so thank you because I hadn’t heard of mummy berry. I live in NJ so I’m not sure if I’ll have the same issue as you but good to know tips for prevention. You can’t go wrong with some coop poop and mulch either way 👍

Thank you. This is a timely video for me. I just bought some blueberries from a blueberry farmer. She told me that blueberries like acid and recommended is use pine needles to mulch my berries. Have you heard using pine needles and not wood chips?

Could you mulch heavily under your blueberry plant to prevent fungus from sprouting up?

Hi. I'm in southern Missouri. We have had 2 years of fungus problems. We have our garden in buckets because we live in an apartment. We got the buckets from Wal Mart. We scrubbed them well drilled a dozen holes in the bottom of each. Bought expensive potting soil, and got beautiful plants. Soon there was fungus on the bottom of both the tomatoes and cucumbers. The only plants not effected were the hot peppers. Please tell me what to do. I even bought sprays and they did not work at all.

Could you add the manure and mulch every year for maintain or would that depend upon your soil? Do not want to over nourish it.

Hi Melissa, how did the mulch work for suppressing the mummy berry? I live south of you have had a very aggressive mummy berry issue this season.

Does the blueberry require cross pollination?
Could you put a row cover on to keep fruit from setting
Could you put weed barrier around base?
I just moved from Utah to northern ark so will be dealing with fungle issues myself, uhg

Why not put a woven ground cover around the plants, to prevent the mushrooms from taking root?
And, if they do happen to show up, they may be easier to see.

I have a friend in the Colorado Rockies who used various pieces around the homestead to create a completely enclosed pen, with cover. I think he used an old dog kennel and some similarly gauged fencing pieces, for the cover, for his chicken coop/run.
I know you asked her, but I thought my experience might be helpful! I wish you all the best!

Adding the thick mulch last year caused much of the fungal disease. Many plants require a dry/wet root line. Thick mulch allows the lowest stem bark to remain too wet which in turn causes fungal disease. In extreme cases the stem will become girdled killing the plant. Obviously, you didn't believe me last year and you are doubling down on more mulch.

I've done this for over a decade, obviously you don't believe me it doesn't harm blueberries and prevents mummy berry

    • @rjaquaponics9266

@@MelissaKNorris The chemical make up of chicken compost will kill all fungi. However, Blueberry is not a true nightshade which will grow roots from the stalk. When the stem above the root ball is buried, it will rot and the plant will die from any number of ways. Very few plants can handle such conditions.
From askingLot, "Is chicken manure good for blueberry plants?
Compost pH. Most composts have slightly acidic to alkaline pH (6-8.5). The high pH of most manure-based composts (e.g., chicken and dairy) is unsuitable for acid-loving plants like blueberry."
A blanket of chicken manure is effectively like spreading lime around the blueberry plant. I recommend clearing out the mulch, allow the roots to dry and spread a thin layer of pine needles around the stalks. The wet stalks are too bacterial and they should be more acidic or fungal. I recommend clearing out the mulch, allow the stems to dry and spread a thin layer of pine needles around the stalks for ground cover. You could also split the cluster and replant them along the row to reduce congestion and allow the stems to dry after rain.
Just because something appears to work it doesn't make it beneficial to the plant that's why monkeys don't smoke cigars! LOL

I pray that you will get your house in order and use your voice to spread the good news of His coming soon AND warn people of His coming wrath that will land on YOU if you fail to sound the trumpet. Ezekiel 33!!! If anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head. But for those who are responsible to sound the trumpet do NOT sound it and anyone's life is taken, it is upon YOUR head!!! Repent and carry YOUR cross!!!
