Spider crabs grand finale in late June.

Once the Portphillip Bay Spider crabs moult and if they do so on mass they will eventually all head back into deeper water. Not all Crabs are doing this as individuals can be found moulting way off on their own. But the majority seem to moult as a group and over period of a few days. Eventually tides wind and wave action bundles the group together. If your lucky they can be seen heading back into deeper water. Seasonal difference and location are not always kind so to a diver it pot luck on how the scene can look. But if every thing line up. ....it truely can be a "Grand finale."
