4 years ago I was a freshman trombone playing here my memories with the Oak Mountain band are my most cherished and memorable in my life. So many great people came together and worked hard to produce shows like these for years I’m grateful for my time spent with them thank you
Props to two sections whose parts and performances were spectacular. The Mellophones were just plain awesome. Loved hearing their roar throughout the show. They are the thread that pulls all the voices together in my opinion, and this coming from a low brass guy. And the trills thrilled! Every show has to have mellophone trills! Then there were the Sousaphones. What a foundation to build a show on! Honorable mention goes to the bass drum line. OMG the splits!
Everybody loves paint-peeling moments in a show, and there are plenty of them in this one. But there are two subtle moments in this show that I find personally impactful. The first involves the four Sousaphone notes played at the end of the trumpet duet in the Pirates of the Caribbean segment. That third note is soooo intense and moving, and my ears so want to hear a gong right there. The second moment comes at the end of the jazz run in the Pirates of the Caribbean segment. That Trombone horns-up and rotation to front makes me think of a formation of British marines bringing their muskets to bear, which is emphasized by the snare work beforehand. This is obviously a perfect allusion for the Pirates of the Caribbean segment.
I’m in Benjamin Russell’s band (the band that hosts this particular competition) and when I watched this show, it was absolutely amazing when I was a Freshman
I saw this live, I was one of the kids in the black uniforms on the back bleachers. the cannons scared us all to death but the show was so dramatic and attracting
ask_sandstar_ swag thanks for your kind comments and for watching! I had the chance to see all of their performances for the entire season and this one was the "peak". It was an amazing show and will hold the standard for future OMHS shows to aspire to. Glad you got to see it.
I was a trumpet player for central and was amazed by your guys show. I can tell you put forth a lot of effort for it and I'm glad to see such a great show performed by an excellent and such big band.
I've seen you're show 3 times. At showcase, Spain park and LMI . This show never fails so amaze me! Best show out there in my opinion! I'm from Shelby county high school !
Lucas Dial thank you for your kind words. It was a wonderful show and this was the "peak" performance by the band that year. Best one of the year. Honored to have been part of it and to have shared it with so many. Loved your comment!!!
Bob Fitzgerald yeaa it was great I'm always so glad to see your videos because you are one of the only people to capture in depth the feeling and experience of being in a marching band. I'm going into my 5th year of marching band and I am 1st chair on quads and am also a section leader XD.
I'm the first chair trombone from Jemison. We won best in class Band, Majorettes, and Drum Major. All 1's. Most Entertaining Overall band. We played Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, Creep, Thriller, Aquarius, and Let the Sunshine in. We were a 2A band this year, but we're expanding quickly. I hope to be competing with this band in a few years.
Bob Fitzgerald I'm also in band it'll be my second year and I'm in the band call the Pride of Broken Arrow. we marched in the 2017 rode parade this past season. you should check out our show from 2016
As a trumpet player for Trussville who will be playing you tomorrow, I find it funny that you close with the theme from POTC while we close with the Kraken from POTC
Thanks for watching! I really loved the 2016 show. It was my son's senior year and I watched it go from concept to this peak performance. I have posted Oak Mountain shows back to 2009. Hope to post the 2017 show after competition season.
I have watched all your videos and I have just started 6th grade beginner band and it all seems so crazy/impossible I play snare btw but I think this is giving me encouragement to try my hardest in percussion
kindin millwood that's awesome. You can do it! Set a goal and get to work! Thanks for the kind words. I'm happy these videos have encouraged you. Thanks for watching!
Zachary Hathaway Yes, we will be posting the 2016 version of JIG 2 after football season ends! Might be able to get some more stand tunes in as well. Thanks for watching!
