Hi, I don’t think it’s underrated. Every true Fan of Bob, like/love it. It’s that kind of melody that goes to the heart, the lyrics are great. Bob/Alias are gorgeous 🙏💙💕
Hi back. I appreciate that. You can't put it better than that. It goes to the ❤️ because Dylan poured his in it. You can feel it from the first note, to the last one.
Soundtrack of a frustrating time in my youth when everyday I felt I was being chased, "so far from home" But I am still here 45 years latter. Life is good, choose life!
Possible Dylans most under-rated album. Speaking from experience, I overlooked it because its mostly instrumentals, even though 'knockin' on heavens door' is one of my all time favorites. I played it on cd and left it on repeat. It really drew me in and this is one of my favorites of all. Well done.
I remember that Rolling Stone journalist spit all over the whole album. Well, almost whole because they mentioned that only "Knocking on heavens door" mildly reminds them on old Dillan... What an idiot!
To me, one of the best harmonica intros by anyone! He practically tells Billy's whole story in just a few lyrics. When I listen to this album, it makes me forget about all the other indescribable records he has graced us with. Such is the genius of Dylan.
Discovered this in a used record shop during a Dylan phase in my 20’s…..GRAND SLAM…used to listen to it all the time during my speed years…so deep….goosebumps all the time ….this and Manfred Man Roar of Silence album…and Sailor by Steve Miller….greatest results on taking a chance
Billy "hey pat" " don't push your luck hoss" Pat " ain't my luck um worried about " Maybe thats the source of the loneliness that covers Billy and this story, that two friends had to find themselves in that place. Dylan takes me body n sole to that place where u feel Billy's lonely melancholy every time I hear this song. every blow of that harp puts me rite on that veranda .
Love never fails. It never gives up. The Lord goes as far as far is. He leads, the man follows, and the woman after him. That's how it is, yesterday, today and tomorrow. In this way, there is no pain and no sorrow. Just as sure as you've come here, and you'll come this way again, you'll find everything in your heart that you need to win over every single sin and to this end He came, eternally for you. Every tear from your eye, He Shall wipe back to bright blue and new. VC
This music is the HIGHLIGHT of a pretty good movie. For my 2 cents worth, one of the 2 best scenes Hollywood ever came up with is where Slim Pickens and his wife go to the river as Slim passes away after being gutshot aand the play "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" in the background. and the other is when he rides that bomb out of "Dr. Strangelove".
I read I am 64 years old I remember when they were making the movie Dylan was in Mexico with the filming he walked into the studio with a bottle of tequila probably blew some weed some coke and recorded this it’s so awesome my favorite he captured the times the dreams
Best fucking song ever I feel it in my heart Bobby I really do. Speaks of how the laws that be aren't always right they just have the power to say it's wrong or right. What's wrong is those pinkerton mofos stealing land and shooting people who object.

11 years ago, I created a character centered during the time of Billy the Kid for a role playing game. Said character was not involved with events but did meet the Kid twice, as a ferrier and looking for missing cattle that were not a result of cattle rustlers. I did a lot of digging into the era, learned a great deal, watched several movies plus soundtracks and documentaries. I missed the ost to Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. As a fictionized tale, it stands the test of time.
Great that your teacher saw the power of this album and film. Have you seen "Heavens Gate" if you like Pat Garrett and Billy the kid, you might enjoy this film. I know the Academy and lots of people dissed it, but it was a pretty close representation of what actually went on in the development of the western states. It's also 3 hrs long, but beautifully shot. I love both of these films. Enjoy! ✌❤🎥🙏 🇨🇦🐈

We dressed as Cowboys with toy six guns when we saw the movie. One of the best nights, watching Alias name canned goods and watching slim Pickens in the sunset while knocking on heavens door played for the first time.
How he just soaked up the mood of horse trails and outlaws. You can almost taste the dust!
Amazing.
Never admit that pal or youll be eating somecunts dust forever "first among equals" remember ✌
I'm hearing you bro 👍🤘❤️
@shuddupeyaface, Jesus Christ said in the New Testament! To watch out for the laws in small towns! He was right! My name is Lewis Robert Burton Jr!
I mean, come on. Why is this one so underrated. Some of the finest music Dylan ever recorded.
This and Highway 61 are my fave Dylan records, i have worn them out.
Two of his best. 😉
Just because he went to Mexico to record it.
Patt: times have changed billy..
Billy: times maybe!!, not me!
The movie will never get old
Billy: few months in Mexico are not so bad......Alias: depends who you are.....ain't that something?
Killian vero, ti trasporta nel vecchio west, chissà alle future generazioni vedendo il film se succederà la stessa cosa?
This just may be Dylan's most underrated songs. The harmonica itself is as poetic as good poetry. And poetry is one of Dylan's strong suits.
Great harmonica
That's a fantastic comment
Darkness at the break of noon

Soundtrack of a frustrating time in my youth when everyday I felt I was being chased, "so far from home" But I am still here 45 years latter. Life is good, choose life!

It's really about himself. That's what bearing your heart and soul sounds like.
Love the lyrics too...in it`s right time somehow, and beautiful!

Billy 1
Bob Dylan
Talvez no vale do Rio Pecos
Billy, você está tão longe de casa
Há sempre algum novo estranho espiando
Algum tolo no gatilho querendo arriscar
Talvez no vale do Rio Pecos
Billy, você está tão longe de casa
Billy 1
Bob Dylan
There's guns across the river aimin' at ya
Lawman on your trail, he'd like to catch ya
Bounty hunters, too, they'd like to get ya
Billy, they don't like you to be so free
Campin' out all night on the berenda
Dealin' cards 'til dawn in the hacienda
Up to Boot Hill they'd like to send ya
Billy, don't you turn your back on me
Playin' around with some sweet senorita
Into her dark hallway she will lead ya
In some lonesome shadows she will greet ya
Billy, you're so far away from home
There's eyes behind the mirrors in empty places
Bullet holes and scars between the spaces
There's always one more notch and ten more paces
Billy, and you're walkin' all alone
They say that Pat Garrett's got your number
So sleep with one eye open when you slumber
Every little sound just might be thunder
Thunder from the barrel of his gun
Guitars will play your grand finale
Down in some Tularosa alley
Maybe in the Rio Pecos valley
Billy, you're so far away from home
There's always some new stranger sneakin' glances
Some trigger-happy fool willin' to take chances
And some old whore from San Pedro to make advances
Advances on your spirit and your soul
The businessmen from Taos want you to go down
They've hired Pat Garrett to force a showdown
Billy, don't it make ya feel so low-down
To be shot down by the man who was your friend?
Hang on to your woman if you got one
Remember in El Paso, once, you shot one
She may have been a whore, but she was a hot one
Billy, you been runnin' for so long
Guitars will play your grand finale
Down in some Tularosa alley
Maybe in the Rio Pecos valley
Billy, you're so far away from home

Veliki čovjek,the Great men
I'll sing you a true song of Billy the Kid
I'll sing of some desperate deeds that he did
'Way out in New Mexico long long ago
When a man's only chance was his own forty-four
When Billy the Kid was a very young lad
In old Silver City he went to the bad
'Way out in the West with a gun in his hand
At the age of twelve years he did kill his first man
There's Mexican maidens play guitars and sing
Songs about Billy, their boy bandit king
'Ere his young manhood has reached his sad end
With a notch an his pistol for twenty one men!
Was on a sad night when poor Billy died
He said to his friend, "I'm not satisfied
There's twenty one men I have put bullets through
Sheriff Pat Garrett must make twenty two!"
I'll sing you how Billy the Kid met his fate
The bright moon was shinin', the hour was late
Shot down by Pat Garrett who once was his friend
The young outlaw's life is now come to an end
There's many a man with a face fine and fair
Who start out in life with a chance to be square
Just like poor Billy they wander astray
They'll lose their lives in the very same way!
Billy, stay with us. We need you nowy egain
Bob Dylan has of course influenced Nick Cave like so many other artists, but I can only imagine how much this album in particular has influenced Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. I hear this influence in so many soundtracks done by this duo over the years.
