Before Lake Isabella was dammed, the Kern River would turn and flow north to the Sacramento Delta are during years of heavy rain. I have an elderly friend who remembers canoeing to the Delta as a teen.
What beautiful drone footage! The Los Angeles Aqueduct brings water from the Owens Valley east of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the California Aqueduct is what flows south from the San Joaquin/Sacramento River Delta south through the San Joaquin Valley to Southern California.
@@TDR007 Yes, the aqueduct next to the end of the Kern River in this video is the California Aqueduct. You should correct your title. The Los Angeles Aqueduct is on the south side of the Tehachapi Mountains, far from the Kern River.
I think you’re showing footage of the Kern River Intertie, which directs floodwater into the California Aqueduct and keeps it from reaching Tulare Lake ?
Thank you for answering my question. Seeing the river from above and in places I don’t go (and probably couldn’t access anyway) is fascinating. Your videos are an education in local geology and help me to better understand and appreciate our natural resources. Thank you!
@@TDR007 It has reopened! There is a short one lane section where CalTrans has alternating lane direction control in place. I just went both ways this morning.
Kern county water district getting rich over the last 10plus years acting like Lake Isabella is a threat and draining it year after year and dumping that water into the LA aqueduct and making a wealthy penny on it, while all the time crippling farmers and those within the county that needs this water. Hopefully this is now in the past for a while.
One can only wonder what it must have been like in its natural state before being tamed! Thank you again for taking the time and sharing!
Looking at the canyons and landscapes along the Kern river it definitely makes you wonder. You're welcome.
probably far more healthy for salmon runs

The Lord gracious in providing water ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful video of all the water from our very wet winter of 2023. Is that bike path built on a former railroad? Nice job tracking the bicyclists!

Thanks for the information as well .
@@TDR007 You are very welcome, I hope that I was correct.
Glad other corrected that. The LA Aqueduct in Kern County is in underground conduit on the other of the Tehachapis (Sierra Nevada).

Love the living water ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Loving itttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Those cyclists were fast. Nice drone video of kern water system.
Thank you.
Yes they are. I was around 25-30 mph following them.
I wonder how the area looks now post Hilary?
Plus the farm field across 119 is being flooded.
Lots of natural groundwater recharge going on!
I think you’re showing footage of the Kern River Intertie, which directs floodwater into the California Aqueduct and keeps it from reaching Tulare Lake ?
That is correct. The intertie hasn't been used since 2006 . It is currently flowing in at 1000cfs to avoid flooding down stream communities. .

Restoring our aqua fur.
I found it Tupman Thanks!
Yes it was Tupman.
You're welcome
Aquifer replenishment.
Great , Now that we have a " Water Surplus " year they can start BUILD AGAIN ! More houses and More Houses....well we have PLENTY of water now....
Then you won't have plenty of water and California will be more stressed during the drier years. Not a good idea.
It sounded like you were being sarcastic to me.
@@keithmandeville4953 Yes , totally ....
Nice seeing so much water. I know where Enos Lane Bike stop is. Where exactly did you start?
I started in Tupman near the California Aqueduct.
Did any water go towards 46?
I haven't been out that way lately to see. Most of the water did end up in the lower parts of the valley .
The Kern River Canyon is now closed due to high water.
Yes Hwy 178 Due to cracking in one lane of the road caused by the high river flow.
