After that, stores just kept dropping off 1 by 1 by 1... now we have like 5 stores left. None of which really have clothes.. except 1. I miss the 90s.
I grew up going to my local mall and I work there now (I'm 23.) We had two anchor stores close down, and now the other shops are slowly going out. We've had some really cool small businesses pop up in their place, but unfortunately sometimes there's just not enough traffic for them to stay. Certain parts of our parking lot are also a complete mess, and one section is blocked off. I still have hope though. Even though the weekdays aren't very busy, some weekends are absolutely packed. My mall also has some kiosks and seasonal Small Business Saturdays in the halls. We're actually getting a trampoline place in one of the old anchor stores soon! I read an article that said local officials want to start turning the mall into more of a lifestyle center, and I think that would be great!
Malls used to be so cool :( One of my theories is how they stopped celebrating holidays to the max, kinda killed the visiting spirit. In my town, it was exciting to see what the mall did for holidays. Very dead and not creative anymore.
My version of this with my son is when I insist he can't just own one pair of pants, make him get three more pairs, and then get mad when he only wears the first pair for 4 months straight. He's rapidly approaching 18, and I've been taking a more "whatever, dude--it's your life" approach to many things like this. I highly recommend it and wish I'd started sooner.

A hell no for my Mom 😂
Although I hated it at times growing up, this makes me so glad that we had/have mandatory school uniforms for all schools in Australia, state/public and private alike, given that some schools are stricter on it that other (like if girls can wear their hairs down if it’s longer than their collar, if boys can even have long hair, what type and how many piercings you can have/if boys can have any at all and what kids of jewellery you can wear/if boys can wear any, what kind of hair dye is permissible, how much if any makeup girls can wear/if boys can wear it, how short your skirt gets as you grow before you have to buy a bigger one/if you can take up the hem to shorten it ((at the state high I went to my skirt barley covered my butt, but at the private I went to first it had to be at least 10cm below the knew, though now the state school has a new uniform and the skirts sit at the top of the knee and the can’t alter the hem length by taking it up any more)), if kids in high school have to wear a hat/if it has to be the uniform hat or can be their own, what kind of socks are allowed and it used to be that at state schools you could wear any type of sandshoe/runners/sneakers you wanted with what ever socks and what ever Velcro’s 90’s style sand led you wanted but private schoos, it was a particular colour and specific length sock ((usually white and calf length for less expensive schools and custom uniform socks for fancy expensive ones)) with black leather shoes and for high school they have to be formal ones, not sneakers that are made of leather, then it changed for state schools in 09 that they had to be black or white vinyl or leather with white or black ((depending on the school, some let you pic)) ankle socks, and private schools with have a custom school back pack you have to buy too as well as probably a homework folder for primary school) Wearing the same thing every day could be a drag, but at least all the other kids looked the same and were wearing the same thing give or take, most schools in primary school with have 1 free dress or muffty day (depending on where you live) a term (there are 4 terms a year working out to about 10 weeks each with a 2 week break between each during the school year and either 6 or 7 weeks ((private schoos get an extra week off)) over the summer/Christmas holidays) and some high schools with have 1 a year, but some have none for safety reasons other than on sports day and swimming carnival day, but you have to wear house/team colours and actually be on the oval or at the pool either supporting or competing (attendance isn’t mandatory but if you don’t go you have to go to class, it’s not as popular now apparently to go, but when I was in school everyone was taking a day to lay about outside with their mates and talking shit about the other teams lol).
