Hey Etho! I noticed you're checking the duration on jump boost to determine how much longer it's got. But due to the nature of beacon effects you'll never have more than 15s of it at once. I just noticed it led to a couple misjudgements is all. Best of luck in the dungeon!
I can't believe Mojang hasn't fixed it yet, it shouldn't show any time until the beacon is disabled or you're out of range, but they've had this half-finished mechanic in the game for 10 years.
@@csongorzih5094 With the way Tango implemented it, I believe he has a counter that triggers a certain number of times based on the card played to activate the beacon in 15 second intervals, not necessarily keep the beacon on for the entire duration from something like a hopper clock. So even if there was something like an infinite duration indicator, it’s not something that would be useful in the context of decked out (plus checking your jump boost to see an infinite time limit left wouldn’t be that much more useful regardless). I just feel like complaining that mojang hasn’t “fixed” beacons is a little misguided because any change would not solve the problems of timing or durations. even in vanilla, at the very most having an infinite duration on beacons would only tell you if you’re in range of the effect or not.

There were many times he bought the big pack of tomes because he didn't want to buy cards which he didn't have. Now he'll buy them to see how good they actually are so unlikely to buy big packs. Essentially, what you said though, he'll get a lower amount of points but still be in the running due to his current high point, though Cub could give him a run if he realizes that he only needs 15 tomes for first place each week. Might be worth it for Etho to save up some tomes to keep the other Hermits guessing, lol
Honestly it's far more fun watching you play to have fun than play to win. The more fun you're having, the more fun it is to watch. That's what matters and that is the real win.
I like the 100% card collection challenge. It allows you to make decks designed to do only one thing really well and make some insane runs. I don’t see the value in crowns if the shards are never available so an ember deck would would be fun to see. It would definitely make buying rare cards easier.
Fantastic phase. What a nail-biter! Really glad I saw the whole of your first run on stream, but you edited it superbly well. Smart move to build your deck at this stage. I think it'll really pay off later. Looking forward to Phase 6. Good luck!
etho so happy you’re enjoying decked out and all the different series on the channel right now, but would love to see your perspective of the team canada ctm maps from recently. they will always have a special place in our hearts!
So in the run where he was questioning the value of Suit Up, it let him survive 2 consecutive Sonic Shrieks. Though Tango is removing the Resistance Beacon from it, so that's not gonna happen again
The ranged attack wardens use penetrates armour, it always does 4 hearts of damage so it's useless in that regard. It's useful for more care free/risky playstyles, but ethos issue is clank & hazard, honestly he probably need to trim his deck down 10+ cards to get the necessary cards more consistently.
@@mpunk9932 I think Etho might stick with it just because it's "more fun," but yeeeeeeeeeahh, I know a lot of the reason the phase was so rough was because of the level 3 changes, but I think that card was really holding him back, especially when you consider that without it he's more likely to move more carefully since getting hit is so bad.
@@AllSystemFailure I understand the conventional deckbuilding wisdom of using fewer cards for reduced variance, but having more cards delays stumbles. If you run a deck with only 15 cards, you're going to be eating nothing but stumbles by ~9 minutes into the run, which means an automatic +1 clank per minute from minute 10 onwards (not to mention the 4 stumble cards that will have already accrued by that point.) Meanwhile, a deck with 40 cards will become filled with only stumble cards at ~25 minutes into the run (by which point 10 stumbles will have already been shuffled into the deck.) In essence, every card you add to your deck dilutes the growing pool of stumbles that accumulate over the course of the run, which gives you more time in the dungeon (on average.)
I love that everyone has been having so much fun in multiplayer recently. Decked Out has been such a highlight of the year, and the other new series(es) seem to have tons of exciting stuff on the horizon. Cheers!

@@John-lh1qx he has 3 Clank Block at 1:06:25 and generates 1 Clank at 1:06:27. So now he is at 2 Clank Block. I really like the change of goals. The gap between the top and the bottom of the leaderboard is pretty large already, and as it gets to the final rounds some of the runs might bet boring if you are only competing for tomes. I think the best part of decked out is the variety of decks that people have, but most of those decks are built out of circumstance. It would be cool to see what you could put together if you really wanted to specialize
I think that the only thing that reduces a bit my enjoyment is that gap. And that some of the players that are behind are there in great part because of bad luck. Like Gem not getting keys in certain runs (I'm not saying that Etho doesn't deserve his placement, I'm saying that Gem deserved more points in previous weeks).
The wardens definitely have something against Etho now. What did you do Tango!? I feel like Suit Up works so well for Cub because he doesn't play as carefully and often takes hits, while you have bigger issues with clank.

Love that you increase brightness by power of editing when in level 3. Can't get around the pitch black blindness, but it does help in general. Thank you.
that one trap door that always seems to close when you go through it seems to be wired to do so. that's just quite the coincidence otherwise, ya know? so with that in mind, i think it's more valuable to be used as an exit than an entrance to that area, so maybe consider entering that room from a different way and then leaving through the ladder. food for thought
21:00 That speed-sneak jump you mentioned is sprint-crouch-jumping! It’s where you hold sprint and sneak, then let go of sneak for a moment mid jump! If done right you can be sneaked as you jump and land, but get a little extra boost mid-jump. If this isn’t helpful or already known then by all means ignore the comment, but a sprint-sneak-jump strategy to move around level 3 faster might be cool to see.

Yeah, it’s very sad. Etho did 13 when Hermits were doing less than 5. Then Cub was doing well too so he bought tomes, tied w/ Etho, and went on to win Phase 5. Etho also doesn’t seem to have done too well due to all the changes and lvl 3 losses. Don’t know abt the results since I refuse to know anything abt it until I watch all the videos for phase 5.
wow, i love how truly terrifying level 3 has become with the new changes! even when you do make it out it always feels like the wardens were a big threat. i'm also excited about your new strategy! i think it'll continue to give a lot of worth to every ember you collect in the dungeon, and once you have A Lot of cards, you get to create fun and perhaps kinda whacky builds that you can change up per run just to see how it'll work out, which is always something i love to do in rogue-likes (or at least in the ones that allow that kind of gameplay).

Unbelievable knockback!
Yeah that boop was intense!
My jaw dropped when that happened. He had so much clank block and cards left in his deck, I was so hopeful for that run.
That is a clip that deserves to be on every DO2 moments video ever. I wish I could see Tango's reaction to it lol

Tango DEFINITELY riged that level 3 ladder to close when you go through. that's wild.
It’s for the best though, getting down, getting the slab and getting out would be way too op
I'm sure of it too!

Yeah definitely. Everytime he goes down, you can see the shrieker particle heading into the wall where the in the direction of the piston. And you can hear a piston sound right after.
@@tehpyono2203 that skulk particle was there in previous phases, it would trigger a shrieker when going down. seems that wasn't hard enough, so it got nerfed lol

A basic viewer: "Woah, you got out of that pit fast!"
People who know: "Woah, you edited the pit part down so much!"
On a serious note, I think you edited the whole run well to keep in the important parts and keep the pacing good.
The fact that the video is still 2 hours shows how interesting etho runs are
He edited out tango slap :(
@@Bestsoft100 Yeah, I was sad about that too. Though I guess it only made sense in the context of Etho being stuck there forever. As most of the pit part was edited out of the video, the slap could seem out of place.

Hey Etho! I noticed you're checking the duration on jump boost to determine how much longer it's got. But due to the nature of beacon effects you'll never have more than 15s of it at once. I just noticed it led to a couple misjudgements is all. Best of luck in the dungeon!
Good point!
This is a really good point! Maybe there should be a noise to alert the player that it's going to run out since you otherwise can't tell
@@bloodwolf2609 I don't think the UI should contain inaccurate information, even if experienced players know exactly what it means. I did not know how Decked out does it, but perhaps if beacon counters were already different then he would have implemented it differently.

Glad that etho is prioritizing cards over winning. There are so many cool cards in this game that are realistically quite bad, so it's comforting to know that all the work that must've gone into designing the art, programming the redstone, etc isn't going to waste and they should all hopefully get bought at least once
This ! As a game dev, it really feels nice when the players try out and appreciate every feature we work hard on. It just- makes me happy haha

One thing I really like about decked out so far is that, aside for the level three key barrel, you play the whole game without using UI. Everything fits in your hot bar and you don’t have to open your inventory at all

Haven't watched yet. If my math is right run nine starts at 1:34:45, and the video is 2 hours and 10 minutes? So a near 40-50 minute run?
Love the selflessness and humility Etho. Changing objectives while on top isn't a decision to scoff at. Most people would simply try to win, but to change your objective to collection to create more interest in the game (for yourself and other hermits) is commendable and why I have happily watched every video for years. Love the increased content Etho, hope you are feeling good with everything going on as well.

If etho wins now without it being his immediate goal… I’ll be incredibly impressed.
Considering how card luck goes w/ high win rate, it’s still probably tome heavy. Or the artifacts he pulls are high.

@@jaadmaan8156 I'm pretty sure he said phases 3 and 4 were also deck building weeks, the difference is he isn't deck building, but card collecting, if he doesn't have it, he wants to have it. Late to this video but I can’t overstate how appreciative I am of etho’s content lately. Thank you man!
I like the 100% card collection challenge. It allows you to make decks designed to do only one thing really well and make some insane runs. I don’t see the value in crowns if the shards are never available so an ember deck would would be fun to see. It would definitely make buying rare cards easier.
you need the coin cards to get the keys to the next level unfortunately

That doesn‘t sound like a good idea to me, considering the trade off, that suit up has.
that card is garbage as soon as he does its almost guaranteed max clank as is
The ranged attack wardens use penetrates armour, it always does 4 hearts of damage so it's useless in that regard.
If you run a deck with only 15 cards, you're going to be eating nothing but stumbles by ~9 minutes into the run, which means an automatic +1 clank per minute from minute 10 onwards (not to mention the 4 stumble cards that will have already accrued by that point.) Meanwhile, a deck with 40 cards will become filled with only stumble cards at ~25 minutes into the run (by which point 10 stumbles will have already been shuffled into the deck.)
In essence, every card you add to your deck dilutes the growing pool of stumbles that accumulate over the course of the run, which gives you more time in the dungeon (on average.)
1:58:54 Etho, you forget about Rusty way too much. I am mentally screaming here

“I think I just touched Willie!…. Don’t take that out of context” 🤣🤣😭
I don't know how you still make these runs exciting, but you certainly do :) amazing episode
The wardens definitely have something against Etho now. What did you do Tango!?
I feel like Suit Up works so well for Cub because he doesn't play as carefully and often takes hits, while you have bigger issues with clank.

that one trap door that always seems to close when you go through it seems to be wired to do so. that's just quite the coincidence otherwise, ya know? so with that in mind, i think it's more valuable to be used as an exit than an entrance to that area, so maybe consider entering that room from a different way and then leaving through the ladder. food for thought
ye but it gets triggered from going to the gold area so even if you went around, it would close before you could leave

I love the new card buying strategy - hopefully the other Hermits decide to go for tomes to keep things competitive. I think some have started giving up on that, which is sad
