Leonid and friends tackle complex pieces of music and turn it into listening pleasure. Only true professional musicians do this not a cover band. Congratulations.
As one of many who watch everything I can from Leonid and Friends, I am in awe of these musicians. This is another seemingly endless example of their incomparable talent. Emphasized by this complex track, one aspect of this band that deserves even more recognition than the stellar musicianship is the flawless production of these songs. Imagine joining a band and trying to record this song (or virtually any other Chicago song). The amazing talent within the band is mind-boggling. However, Leonid’s Production of this song and all other songs in their whole portfolio can only be described with words like epic, incomparable, and perfection. Thank you Leonid Vorobyev for sharing your impressive talents with us through your band. You have set a standard of excellence that few can meet. .
I'd rather use the word "skilled' here rather than "talented" . This wasn't an ability that fell on the laps of all the participants here. These guys WORKED to get where they are, and it shows.
О Боже, какая сложная музыкальная композиция. Её придумал гений. И гениально исполнили Леонид и друзья! Я под большим впечатлением, ребята, вы меня сразили❤❤❤❤
The first song on the first album called Chicago Transit Authority. It was for sure quite the introduction to the band. Wow! And nicely covered by L&F.
yup. i remember hearing Chicago for the first time. I'm a Man in the car. I said "that's not Spencer Davis ! i couldn't crank it loud enough. Got the album and my mind was blown ! L & F continue to blow my mind too
I had that album way back when it first came out. Unfortunately, it melted into the shag carpet in my bedroom when our house burned in the early 70s. It and Countdown to Ecstasy were lost and gone forever...speaking of Steely Dan, Leonid & Friends would probably do superior renditions of "Dirty Work" and "Night by Night".
I don't even know what to say anymore. This was the first song on my list on songs that I wished you would do. Simply amazing. Nice touch on the Terry Kath t-shirt.
My sentiments exactly!! Hope they will do this as their "Introduction" at some of their future concerts. (For me, 12 June, 2021? in Jim Thorpe, PA USA)
Igor, IGOR, I-G-O-R...YOUR playing is the glue! SO WELL DONE!! Still can't fathom the amazing and brilliant skill of Leonid to listen and scribe all the sheet music for EVERYONE. WOW!!!
I love the huge smile on Leonid’s face when he hears how great it’s sounding and sees how much fun everyone is having. Because that’s what it’s all about, even more so than perfection.
Saw this group some months ago here in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. They were Way Beyond anything I ever expected the group was so tight and the sound so fantastic that I just could not believe it. It was her Chicago tribute show but it turned out that they did many songs by other groups as well. If they ever come back this way you can bet I'll be at that concert
We saw these guys in the States and it was such a great, family-friendly show-- they sound just as good as they do in the studio. Ticket prices were very reasonable, as well. Endeavor to see them live-- you won't be disappointed!
So did we, in Jim Thorpe, PA in July of 2019. they were every bit as good live as you see them on their videos. Go see them, when they get back on the road.
Just when I think I’ve heard this band perform with absolute perfection with previous covers they have totally nailed this beyond anything that I’ve heard before. Where to start? Covering the Terry Kath solo is a huge challenge and it was flawlessly played! The drummer was amazing as usual and the three horn players didn’t miss a note. As soon as I finish with this comment I will listen again and again and again! I pray to all the music gods that Leonid and friends will be able to tour in the next year and spread the joy of their music. They are a remarkable group with incredible talent. God bless them.

Likewise and more of the same. Had the occasion back on January 23. 1978 to witness Terry Kath's final concert, right before his tragic end. A night to remember, truly a profound experience. Always kind of felt alone with regard to my love of this specific track, only to find common cause so many decades later with this splendid rendition. You quite obviously "get it" and then some. Thanks for heaping praise where praise it due. Hope your own career continues to reflect such high standards. n.
Being in a Chicago tribute band myself, I really enjoy watching Leonid & Friends play these tunes. Vasilii, the gruff lead singer, is so entertaining to watch! Everyone is spot on. Great band. And a great performance here.
Ok, I cried. I couldnt help it, looking that Kath t-shirt in the Sergey's solo. So many memories in the middle of this magnificent performance. Thank you, Leonid and Friends! Bravisimo! Greetings from México.

Having grown up on this music back in the 90s (through my dad), and having listened to this particular song HUNDREDS of times, this is such a faithful trbute to the original
This was the first song I heard Chicago play live at my first concert in 1970. I knew I loved that band after I heard the song. After seeing Leonid & Friends in concert I already knew I loved that band but this version of Introduction really brings back memories of Chicago when Terry Kath was alive and they were at their best.
These guys are amazing, but they’re not the only ones who cover Chicago brilliantly. Check out Lexington Lab Band - they too do excellent Chicago (and other) covers. No one has to be “best” - and both deserve credit for their incredible musicianship.
@@oldbandguy that would be INCREDIBLE!!! LLB has done some live concerts, as has Leonid & Friends. Lots of parallels - both seem to have a number of “floating” members, probably depending on who’s available and what sort of instrumentation/vocals are needed. What a show it would be to have them perform back to back!!!
@@profdave2861 I originally wasn’t trying to mention them by name, but since you brought it up…… Lexington Lab Band does a reasonably decent job of “covering” Chicago, Leonid and Friends goes far beyond that. This is evidenced by the fact that even members of Chicago have sat in with Leonid and Friends on some of their live performances.
What a coincidence, it was mine, too. And I still have it, after having purchased it in 1971, when I was a sophomore in high school. Glad I still have it, and a turntable upon which to play it.
Besides the obvious - the talent, the musicianship, being emotionally invested in the performance, etc. I always have this thought: this band is not just performing our American music, they embrace it with their heart and soul which is why it takes my breath away every time. So why is it that we all can't get along better with everyone all over the world? I know it's not simple, but this band is a shining example of a good place to start.
Absolutely ecstatic upon seeing Leonid and Co.’s latest homage to vintage Chicago; performed flawlessly yet soulful as always! i’ve long felt this is probably the greatest first-song (an “introduction” literally) of any musical group’s debut album. While many think of Chicago based on their post-Terry Kath syrupy hit ballads, people who appreciate great music feel as I do about early Chicago: they were an awe-inspiring collective of stellar composers and musicians.
That was an absolute incredible display of the talent each of these musicians possess. As a trombonist I give accolades to Maxim for his great playing. Ksenia is also the most beautiful shaker player in the world, although I miss her singing. Two thumbs up.
She still sings, and quite well. Look up "Leave Me Now" She did this as a solo with L&F, and then also on their "Holiday Concert" live-stream, she comes in at around 47:00.
I'm a trombonist also, and was totally blown away by Maxim's beautiful tone. This is how a trombone should sound! James Pankow's trombone parts in Chicago appropriately have many smeared or glided notes, and this is a classic use of this valveless slide instrument! The tongue is almost half of the instrument, as it must function as the "valve".
Listening more intently to this music, gives me greater appreciation to the original Chicago. What talent ! And bless Leonid and Friends for bringing the fire back to it.
And Leonid rocks it just as well. Plus he transcribed all of this music! Go see them in concert! We have four times, going for #5, I am a hopeless groupie, they just make me really happy...@@ROGER2095

Today, 1/31/21, would have been the 75th birthday of Terry Kath. How appropriate to release this number today...
@@74bshs R.I.P.
Yes he's fantastic 🥰😍👏 I think Kath would be thrilled to see this tribute😍💕👏👍💜😁❤️💚💚😁
TOTALLY AGREE! One of the best guitarists on the planet!
Terry Kath was the best ever.
It's impossible to pick out any one musician or singer, they are all over the top wonderful. Well Done!!!!
You have set a standard of excellence that few can meet. .
ich könnte es nicht besser formulieren!
I couldn't have said it better myself. Bravo!
eloquently put
I'd rather use the word "skilled' here rather than "talented" . This wasn't an ability that fell on the laps of all the participants here. These guys WORKED to get where they are, and it shows.
One word....DAMN !
О Боже, какая сложная музыкальная композиция. Её придумал гений. И гениально исполнили Леонид и друзья! Я под большим впечатлением, ребята, вы меня сразили❤❤❤❤
The complexity of this piece is astonishing, and they pulled it off flawlessly.
I think this is one of the most complex Chicago songs and you guys nailed it!! Bravo to all of you.
Great drums and horns !! alwys love to see the smiling face of Ksenia....brings sunshine to the performances!
The first song on the first album called Chicago Transit Authority. It was for sure quite the introduction to the band. Wow! And nicely covered by L&F.
I remember when it first came out, I was 16 years old. Double album that was awesome.
@@ricksegal3065 A desert island album for me...
yup. i remember hearing Chicago for the first time.
How about fucking astounding?
I don't even know what to say anymore. This was the first song on my list on songs that I wished you would do. Simply amazing. Nice touch on the Terry Kath t-shirt.
Gary Pickle: How about "Goodbye"?
My sentiments exactly!! Hope they will do this as their "Introduction" at some of their future concerts. (For me, 12 June, 2021? in Jim Thorpe, PA USA)
Thank you! This is my favorite Chicago song of all time! Perfect!
Mine too! Now they have the proper opening number to play at future concerts!
I searched awhile back to see if they had posted a video of this song . Glad they put this up. As always great job.
OMG! What an amazing cover! And Sergey with the Terry Kath T-shirt!
Saw them the other night in Nashville. They opened with this. Magical night.
Yeah. Did so for us in Jim Thorpe, PA in June 2023 and July, 2022. And in Sellersville, PA 2021. Great shows, agreed.
Igor, IGOR, I-G-O-R...YOUR playing is the glue! SO WELL DONE!! Still can't fathom the amazing and brilliant skill of Leonid to listen and scribe all the sheet music for EVERYONE. WOW!!!
I can’t stop listening to this wonderful group of musicians! All of them but my god… the drummer
How about all of them??!!
@@74bshs Yeah, but THAT DRUMMER!
The ‘bone and trumpet solos give me the chills. Just like when I first heard them in the 70’s Thanks so much ❤️
So much talent and passion! All the players n lead vocals NAILED IT! Wow-just-Wow!!!
I love the huge smile on Leonid’s face when he hears how great it’s sounding and sees how much fun everyone is having. Because that’s what it’s all about, even more so than perfection.
Indeed, it is! :)
Yeah, you and me both. For me, it will be the fifth time. I am a hopeless groupie...
We saw these guys in the States and it was such a great, family-friendly show-- they sound just as good as they do in the studio. Ticket prices were very reasonable, as well. Endeavor to see them live-- you won't be disappointed!
You lucky dog. That's so cool.
Top class as usual - special shout out to the brass section! Keep safe everyone...
FFS, stop it with this "keep safe" BS. Without your exhortation, people are going to run into traffic?
@@canadianroot I couldn't agree more. I'm really sick of people telling me to "stay safe." I'm an adult and I don't need anyone or the government telling me what to do. I can take care of myself thank you very much
@@jber9569 Good to find a kindred spirit. People are finally waking up and smelling the bullshit.
I’m literally in tears. Have played this piece which is my all time favorite Chicago song at least 3000 times. No one has nailed every nuance of that masterpiece like you people. It gets NO better than this. I know what I’m talking about. Blessings to you. Please don’t stop doing this incredible work. It’s amazing. pS omg I can’t see for the tears. Terry is alive in that mans hands. Every note identical to Terry. This is a miracle in music. Thank you so much and please please please do more!!!!
My favorite Chicago tune as well. The miracle here is that not only are the notes right on target - but the feel is fantastic!
Likewise and more of the same. Had the occasion back on January 23. 1978 to witness Terry Kath's final concert, right before his tragic end.
A night to remember, truly a profound experience. Always kind of felt alone with regard to my love of this specific track, only to find common
cause so many decades later with this splendid rendition. You quite obviously "get it" and then some. Thanks for heaping praise where
praise it due. Hope your own career continues to reflect such high standards. n.
Just saw them in Ft. Myers, FL this past Tuesday.....they CAN DO IT outside of the studio just as well.
I agree.
NEVER say "you people" to other people -ever again, anywhere--for the rest of your life.
👍🇲🇽
You’re not alone.
Moi, aussi...
I think that I shed tears every time I hear another cover by this fantastic, exceptional group of singers and musicians!!! My shirt and face are starting to grow most from all if the moisture...lol! Seriously though, you can't get better than Leonid and Friends! Hands down!!!
THIS 👆☝ What 1quirris said yo
Wow - to cover this song? Takes guts and tremendous skill. Self proclaimed Chicago’s #1 fan here 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
There aren't enough wonderfully descriptive words to say how great this band is. All I can say is, this is another outstanding contribution! Thanks!
That’s always been my favorite Chicago song and they do it perfectly!
I know they are all talented musicians, but that drummer just kills it. Kudos!
You do know. you make this old man happy, taking him back to '69 ....... an Lp I've still got and love ....... magic ...
Don't expect something average from these guys. Every video is just spectacular!
Having grown up on this music back in the 90s (through my dad), and having listened to this particular song HUNDREDS of times, this is such a faithful trbute to the original
I have seen Chicago about eight times in my lifetime, dating back to 1973....THIS is absolutely AMAZING!!
I love those horns, so much! They are perfection! ♥Leonid, what a gift you have given the world! De, from New Orleans.
This was the first song I heard Chicago play live at my first concert in 1970. I knew I loved that band after I heard the song. After seeing Leonid & Friends in concert I already knew I loved that band but this version of Introduction really brings back memories of Chicago when Terry Kath was alive and they were at their best.
Many other bands post videos where they “try” to cover Chicago’s music. Only you succeed.
These guys are amazing, but they’re not the only ones who cover Chicago brilliantly. Check out Lexington Lab Band - they too do excellent Chicago (and other) covers. No one has to be “best” - and both deserve credit for their incredible musicianship.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@profdave2861 Lexington Lab band is indeed an outstanding group. Would love to see a live "battle of the bands" between these two :-)
@@oldbandguy that would be INCREDIBLE!!! LLB has done some live concerts, as has Leonid & Friends. Lots of parallels - both seem to have a number of “floating” members, probably depending on who’s available and what sort of instrumentation/vocals are needed. What a show it would be to have them perform back to back!!!
@@profdave2861 I originally wasn’t trying to mention them by name, but since you brought it up……
Lexington Lab Band does a reasonably decent job of “covering” Chicago, Leonid and Friends goes far beyond that. This is evidenced by the fact that even members of Chicago have sat in with Leonid and Friends on some of their live performances.
Chicago Transit Authority was the first album I ever bought with my own money, and I still listen to it regularly. Great job on this song!
Bought it in high school, never put the LP down. Could not get over the amazing horn arrangements.. These guys are OMG soooo good!
What a coincidence, it was mine, too. And I still have it, after having purchased it in 1971, when I was a sophomore in high school. Glad I still have it, and a turntable upon which to play it.
Wow, wow, wow. That's all folks!!!
I just can't get enough of this. When Sergey plays you can not just hear it but actually feel it. Amazing.
Besides the obvious - the talent, the musicianship, being emotionally invested in the performance, etc. I always have this thought: this band is not just performing our American music, they embrace it with their heart and soul which is why it takes my breath away every time. So why is it that we all can't get along better with everyone all over the world? I know it's not simple, but this band is a shining example of a good place to start.
amen
Same here😂👏👏😘👏👏
Same here - It made me remember that Peter Cetera was a great bassist.
And Leonid rocks it just as well. Plus he transcribed all of this music! Go see them in concert! We have four times, going for #5, I am a hopeless groupie, they just make me really happy...@@ROGER2095
Fantastic band. Great musicians, singers and a superb drummer. Salute
Very complex arrangements! I am stunned 😳 L G Majo 🎼🎧👍❤️
I have been so looking forward to you doing this song, and you did not disappoint. I literally had tears running down my cheeks, had to keep wiping my eyes. Sergey's t-shirt choice was perfect.
This is Chicago's original proof-of-concept song, featuring most of the players and written by the amazing, irreplaceable Terry Kath. It's the one that hooked me; so unique, so original.
Wonderful job, guys, just terrific!
Im still wiping tears away. They friggin nailed it!

I really like the trumpet player. I've heard him on several tunes, and he's SOLID. He's got lead trumpet chops galore!
Such incredible tone and control. The entire horn section is beyond amazing on all the tracks they have recorded.
Saw these artists for the second time in Knoxville Tennessee. Absolutely amazing. It’s so obvious that they love what they’re doing. The best ever!
This goes so very far beyond a "Cover" it really is a tribute, an hommage, and it reminds me of just how very good the music of Chicago is.
Full stop.
Very true
"Kin A right! It is such a good cover of the first song off the first side of the first Chicago album! :)
When a philharmonic orchestra plays Mozart it is not a cover, but a performance. These musicians are performing music by Chicago. I have listened to Chicago for over 50 years. Every album, 1000's of times. They are outstanding.
I am not a musician but know this song well after hearing it a plethora of times over the years... one of my favorite all time Chicago jams... Leonid and Friends flat out nailed this one. Amazing talents! Thank you for all your efforts.
Oh the joy of hearing some of the best music ever made with new energy and life. Awesome guitar solo. What? Three guys doing the work of the peerless and indeed legendary Terry Kath. Top stuff guys.
In the recording studio, Terry did the lead, but I am sure he dubbed in the other two guitar parts. The backgound guitar during Kaths lead was definitely a Stratocaster. Kath didnt do all those three parts at the same time.

Please never stop the wonder of your performances. Please.
More passion than the current Chicago lineup, hate to say it but you guys sound more like Chicago than Chicago!
True, but Terry Kath’s voice was the best and never will be replaced.
They literally took the albums and lifted every note and wrote their own sheet music so It would be true to album form..Chicago couldn't play their own songs exactly like they came out in the studio..Fact.
Sooooo True! These guys sing with more passion than Chicago!
Chicago's been making music for 41 years - and disappointing their fans for 38 years.
50 years and 20,000 concerts later, give them a break man.
This group isn't just great, they're positively inspired. What a joy to listen to unfettered , "let's go for it" musicianship!

I saw CTA for the first time in 1969 when they were the support act for Hendrix. They kicked off with this song and then proceeded through the entire 1st album. We were simply blown away. Now, 52 years later this is still some of the best music ever. Thanks L & F for doing this. You guys are phenomenal.
Superb work! Love the quality of the musicianship and production of your videos. Thanks so much for sharing

I think Russia would be proud of Leonid & Friends and the fact that there are indeed great rock musicians over there!!!
Listening to this song by Leonid and Friends (and, in fact, everything by them) is like a huge shot of adrenaline. Reminds me of the first time I saw Chicago in July 1972.
I'm not sure what's more amazing - that Chicago was able to compose and play this incredible music - or that L&F is able to so perfectly duplicate it.
The original guys in the band had to lay the blueprint...it does take a whole lotta talent to hear it/chart it/play it.
Sergey's shirt says it all "Kath"! I'm cryin' here. 1969 lives all over again! Thanks, Leonid and cohorts for a great Sunday wakeup!
Yes, indeed, it was a number that I have been hoping that L & F would do for quite some time. My prayers have been answered! RIP, Terry Kath. And long live Leonid and Friends! :)
How do these guys only have 164K subs? This should be approaching 500-750K. Your commitment to excellent performances is astounding.
IT HAS BEEN STUCK ON 164K FOR YEARS. I SUBSCRIBED OVER 6 YEARS AGO.
Not to mention, who is giving these guys a thumbs down?
Leonid and band....being a fan of Chicago since 1969, let me congratulate you guys on a fabulous commitment to honor the band Chicago by bringing alive their music to recorded perfection. I ran a radio network in Moscow for 20 years and am sorry I missed you guys perform. Great job, keep up the Chicago legacy. It sure impacted a lot of American kids, and bringing it to a new generation of Russian kids is a great way to bring our nations together!
What can I say you are all fantastic. Your band blows me away. thank you for all you do!
I've donated a couple of times to these guys and I encourage everyone else to do the same - if you are able to, we can then continue to enjoy the wonderful music they produce!

That guitar solo brought chills up my back I could feel the essence of Terry Kath in every note played
There comes a time in a band's evolution, when to comment on a performance becomes pointless, simply because they are that good, well, truly, it really doesn't get any better than this.. 👍
I can honestly say L&F is the most talented tribute band ever formed
Each musician & singer is a master of the craft & they way they surgically master ever groove they perform is unmatched
Introduction is such a difficult & complex groove to play but they slayed it!!

New keyboardist, but Andrei Zyl is still the trumpeter. Maybe you didn't recognize him, because he wasn't wearing his signature plaid "pajama" suit! :)
Perfecto....now I see how Chicago played it in real life. Put a big smile on my face.
Finally ! I've waited soo long for you doing especially this one ! This was - in 1969, first Chicago-Album, first song - the hottest self-introduction of a band in the world of Rock ever ! Thank you Leonid - and friends. :-) I hope you will continue for many more years, and I wish you'd come to Germany one day. Stay healthy and safe, greets from Cologne !
Outstanding, as usual. Special kudos to the lead guitarist (in the Kath t-shirt) and the drummer. Those guy are killing it. Actually, everybody is. Thanks.
I need the Kath tshirt!
Fantastic, utterly fantastic. This will be stuck in my brain whenever I listen to this song. Thanks, much thanks.
I've commented before...as musicians and vocalists you are on a higher level than most. And again your recording tech staff have mastered their art. Of course the equipment plays a huge part, but it's the individuals that twist the dials and move the faders that makes it all come together. Thank you all. Peace...
I have to admit...their studio recordings are always amazing. Unfortunately, they're so good that their live sound is almost disappointing... but I guess that's just the nature of the beast...
I'm in absolute awe...
Cannot compliment these guys enough...
Geeze...incredible, as always! The horns...the drums...the guitars...the keyboards...the vocals...spot on! Terry would be proud. Thank you.
