The mid eq adjusts the frequency higher than bass but lower than treble, the ones in the middle. There’s so much misinformation here, it’s absolutely hilarious. Good video
Thanks very informative. I'm still fine tuning the many settings. I just installed a Kenwood KDC X-302, love it. Wired it up myself, and put in new Cerwin Vega speakers. I'm no expert but there are two power wires, red is switched power, yellow is constant. I'm guessing the yellow is what keeps your clock set. A couple of people asked about the clock not staying set. Please correct me if I'm wrong thanks. I was also able to fix the annoying "protection mode" error code. Great stereo, amazing sound.
Hi. There are a numerous settings covered here that are incorrect. But I will focus on just 2 for the sake of brevity. "Volume Offset" is a feature to normalize your sound between various sources (tuner, aux, cd, mp3, etc.). It allows you to jump sources without having to worry about marked volume increases or decreases. It lets you customize and adjust the "level" of your various sources across the board in terms of volume/sound. Secondly, "Loudness" does not simply make your stereo louder especially at high volume. Instead, loudness on any audio (home or car) is intended to boost low and high frequencies when listening at low levels. The human ear is not able to perceive certain frequencies at low levels. Without getting into the mechanics of it here, the ear will flatten sound to the brain. As a result, bass and treble will lack or not be heard at low levels. Loudness amplifies these signals and allows the human ear to hear these frequencies. Particularly bass. Imagine playing soft jazz at volume 2. Loudness will enable you to hear some of the bass. Without it, your ear will not pick it up. Loudness should not be used at high volume, although most radios will clip that off automatically these days to prevent damage. Otherwise, great video! And thanks for putting it out there to help others!
@reinassance man I have a KDC-252U and my radio just started going to protect mode. I’ve did the factory reset and it worked for maybe 10 minutes before going right back into protect mode. Do you know why it’s doing this and how to fix it? I need my music. TIA
the video is very useful but I would like to ask for information. when I adjust the balance for the left and right audio output, nothing is heard from the right speaker when I connect the phone with the aux cable and therefore I'm in tuner. on the other hand, when I adjust the balance to the mode for listening to the radio transmitted by a radio station, the right speaker works. so since it's not a speaker problem, is there some setting or step that I don't know? could you help me? A thousand thanks
Hi there, love the video, you explain so well and so clearly. Thank you! I have some issues with my kenwood kmm bt306, the sound doesn’t not work on one side of the car (the right side) , very strange!! I wondered if you had any advice for this! Thank you and keep up the great work!!
Just my opinion, but no matter how you change eq settings on Kenwood, the units always lower the volume to compensate. Mp3 files sound the lowest from flash drive.
Ha.. I just got a 98 TJ and I'm installing a Kenwood head unit into it before I decide if having a good stereo is worth it or not (at which point I might chop up the dash and put a double DIN unit in there.) I noticed you're in a TJ too, so that's funny. I paid more for the kenwood to get HD radio and all those filter options for each speaker so hopefully I can end up with something that sounds better than the Chrysler stereo, which leaves a lot to be desired.
I have gone through every posting under excelon single head units & have read the entire manual for my Kenwood KMM-X704 and can't find any info on how to set the presets for the radio station above the 6 labeled on the headset. The manual states that you can set a total of 18 HD stations but how do you tag and recall the stations above the 6 listed on the display?

I'm really struggling trying to make real tight bass. I have two 8 morel primos, and un amped Panasonic splits. Trying to get psytrance sounding sharp. Any advice for head unit settings?
sharp crisp audio comes from medium set mids and high treble. Your hz frequency changes what audio the subs will pick up. Lower frequency basically removes any treble lowest removes any treble and mids. The higher the slope the less frequencies will get past your set frequency. So if your slope is at -6db/oct and a 80hz the hz higher than 80 can still “sneak” through. Your sub can handle more frequencies setting should normally be no lower than 100. But between 120 and 180 will sound best. Adding tweeters and better component speakers with their own dedicated amp makes a MASSIVE difference. Your head units amp is small, amping your component (door) speakers will vastly improve sound quality, and loudness. Power bass 3XXXL’s are hands down my favorite component speakers, however i’ve been out of the car audio game for a good few years so there may be better out by now. But Bose infinities are always a fanfuckingtastic pick as well. Also your sub box has a lot to do with sound as well if it’s a cheap shitty box, get one made or make one yourself (it’s not hard.) And a better head unit than this will help a lot more as well. Find the newest version of the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X996 it has an absurd amount of settings like the abilitie to make your speakers sound like they’re 20 feet away from you. Or the audio height. I have the X996 so the newest one would be even better id imagine. But honestly if you can find one. The X996 is amazing. Plus it has a 13 band EQ so you’ll be able to do exactly what you’re trying to do MUCH easier than only really having 3 ex options that can’t fine tune any audio.
The sub setting only works if you have a subwoofer hooked up to your head unit. Then it lets you adjust the subwoofer tuning. But if you do have a subwoofer then it should be in with the equalizer settings most likely

My stereo went on mute..I hit a botton by accident and now I can't get my music to play loud infact can barely hear it
Mids for the vocals
How do i get to bluetooth connect my samsung ?
If your Bluetooth is on on your head unit you should just be able to go to Bluetooth on your phone and connect to it
What type kenwood headunit?
KDC-X696
How do I change the language 😅 I think I'm making things worse but I don't know it's in french and I'm english
just google it, mine allowed language choice when it was initially installed
Just picked this unit up at pep boys for $39.99
Good deal!
How do I factory reset this?
Mine resets to factory settings when I disconnect my car battery and then connect it again
i installed this radio with a mês sound system with speakers, amp and sub, but the radio keeps shutting down after a couple minutes playing, anyone else experiecing this?
I have an preset eq button
HPF? That filters certain frequencies................ does it filter ALL speakers??? I just want no bass going to my tweeters
It depends how your speakers are wired. If you have your tweeters wired to an amp then there’s probably an HPF switch on it
@@seancanoy amp only feeds 2 mtx 10s only.
Why when my volume is a turned up it sounds distorted
Your speakers could be blown
@@seancanoy I just bought these speakers I doubt it. I’m thinking it’s because I have them ran to my radio without an amp so the speakers dont have enough power, causing distortion. I’m really not sure tho
How do I charge it?
Charge what
@@seancanoy the in dash radio, it used to go up to past atleast 40 which was the highest i put it but now it only goes up to 35 and I’m assuming it’s because it’s getting low on battery. But that was when it was parked so I don’t know if when the truck is driving the volume goes higher
Your head unit never needs to be charged. It should be wired to a constant power source when the car is on. It could possibly be a setting that was changed that won’t let it go higher
I just want to turn on the Radio! The Box keeps showing "Audi Disconnect"
That’s annoying, did you connect it to your phone via 35mm?
Listened for two minutes. As long as I can hear the radio, all is good. Not critical of the sound.
Hell yeah
We get it buddy, you have a stock system.
