Dont ever feel that we dont appreciate the talk-about games, I can literally talk for hours and hours about games and how far they've come in the last 4 decades. I for one thoroughly enjoy the insight and thoughts on a title , its design decisions, its lore and story and what could have been done differently and what was nailed on point by the devs. Its the sort of intelligent discussion on titles (along with Dropped Frames of course) that draws me to this channel more than any other.

Maybe don’t do it throughout the playthrough? Do it at the end maybe? It’s a bit frustrating if he constantly stops and makes fun of or complains about a design choice. Just a thought.

@@SuperOrangeSauce I guess it might be just that he mentions it at the time while its fresh in his mind rather than forget something, I know that when I play through a game I mention likes/dislikes in design to my wife and my friends as I go whilst playing incase I forget to mention to her something about the game

Gotta agree with the closing comments. Came very close to being a great game, but the handful of missteps still left it as a good one. Dialogue, setting, environment, voice acting, and tone.. all top notch! But even as a spectator rather than a player, the moments where the monsters could clearly path to you and didn't was very immersion breaking, and wrecked the tension of the moment.

Yea, I dug the whole "The Thing" vibe the monster/s had, but the game was obviously trying to "just" be an immersive horror sim, but failed at the immersive part. All the monsters had the ability to contort their shape and had tentacles that could reach through openings, but the main character constantly avoided it by crawling into areas in which the monster could easily get into. Like the main character had plot armor the entire time. Alien Isolation for example did a much better job at being an immersive horror simulation and just compare the asking prices and gameplay time lol.

Personally I enjoyed watching through this game. But got to say that watching Cohh playthrough vs another streamer, totally different experience as the other guy didnt have visual glitch (hair flying etc) happening so it could be also an unfortunate coincidence.
On the other note, I agree with Cohh on the monster being threatening yet conveniently unable to access certain area. Even for a cinematic excuse there are many other ways of doing it more effectively.
Other than that, the atmosphere, music is top notch. Really hope that they would unearth this game again one day and make it more than just a walking simulator. Add some branching paths and endings, a few more unique areas with some boss battle or puzzle mechanic and I think it could rival games like Bioshock.

Good game, solid discussion. Still have a ton of unanswered questions, like:
    - How bad was the altercation that the police were coming after Caz at the rig
    - The letter at the beginning and the letter at the end had very different tones; was the letter at the end sent after this whole thing happened
    - What exactly was up with Caz’s luck? His sheer survivability levels felt a bit supernatural at times, like in the one scene where he seemed to basically drown but then was guided by a light to the surface
    - Why were some people never infected/absorbed by the sea monster? Caz got stabbed multiple times by the tentacles, which is how one would assume the creature takes over
    - I really thought they were going somewhere with the film burn effect; in one instance, Suze is calling for the daughters in a panic… I was wondering whether the wife & kids had all perished in a fire or something and the oil/fire/heater-storm/water/creature were themes of some kind, like if Caz was infected the whole time and the creature was just playing with his memories, making him continue with false hope, when the real truth was stirring just under the surface
    - Picking up the insulin and never even trying to use it on Roy is neeeeeever not gonna bug me, lol
    - etc

All of those scottish ale gave Caz a huge immunity boost against lovecraftian infections.🍻

Totaly right about the immersion being ruined. Means so much more in a game where the stakes are supposed to be high, and everything else is so top tier. Its like being in a well designed haunted house, and suddenly see one of the actors on a smoke break off to the side, because noone bothered to close the curtain to the staff area.

What ruin for me was the excessive close valve gameplay. There were too many and very convenient placed next to the leak spot. And there are unanswered questions what are these and the aftermath.

Cohh is being completely unrealistic about the compression sickness thing, that was literally just his and chats headcanon about whats going on... it was a funny joke but it WASNT REAL.
He didnt listen to the dialogue properly so he though thats what the character said. Listen, after asked what happened the guy literally said "I dont know... decompression shouldnt be this bad." implying hes never seen anything like this before... context matters, the guy is working at an oil rig where the worst thing that can happen to someone in a diving bell is decompression sickness if you didnt simply drown... so that was HIS context of what couldve happened, so Cohh and goons literally just joked and went with it as a fact.
It perfectly fits the world that the person working at an oil rig thinks someone screaming in a diving bell at worst could be having decompression sickness, what else could it be? think about being in that guy's shoes, not yours behind the monitor. Decompression sickness is painful after all, so screaming wouldnt be out of place either.
Its disappointing how a joke turned into false criticism about the game. Same thing with the moment when he was laughing about them discussing "casually" (yelling btw) how the player character was feeling... after LITERALLY FALLING OFF THE RIG AND BEING SAVED. Its perfectly normal to ask someone if they are alright when they are standing infront of you for the first time after almost dying. Youre just making sure they are capable of helping you with the other guy. Perfectly normal human behavior, its not out of place nor is it bad writing.
Other than that the weird inconsistencies are valid criticism.
Cohh also implied earlier that the monsters can speak so they should be smart? well, have you seen twitter? plenty of people who can talk but clearly dont have a brain. :P
The way we see the monsters act doesnt seem like smart behavior to me, first one is banging a washing machine door like its a fun activity. I would guess they are simply driven mad by the mutation and are acting based on some primal instinct without the ability to think rationally. Relations between some of the characters wasnt exactly stellar either in the intro, so it couldve just emphasized those hateful emotions and thus murderous monsters are born. Most of the monsters, if not all, died aswell so they clearly they didnt have any self preservation like the Thing had in movies. (which is a common comparison people make here, its cool but the creatures clearly have different motives)

To be fair, Caz and the bell operator were having a pretty calm conversation while the guy in the bell was going absolutely insane. That is what stuck out to me more than any comment tangentially related to decompression sickness. I suppose I would have tried acting with more urgency.

@@tyrinaruberfuzzy3805 Right, the scene called for urgency, and trying to open the thing with the screaming man right then and there, in a panic.
Not a "well, I've never seen something like this. Nah, you go ahead and check on the others, I'll open this in a wee bit."

This game should have removed the monster part and just be a escape from an accident and it would have been a better game.
So strong a core and such a weak everything else.

    • @JohnA...
      @JohnA... 9 часов назад

I was thinking it was too cheerful for a Lovecraftian horror game, thats actually a good idea to just make it a survive a horrible accident game. Lovecraftian horror doesn't always explain much, but this didn't explain anything, just "odd monster thing, run", but why? Where is the actual psychological horror element, it could have been a bear chasing after him the whole time and it would have made as much sense, where is the backstory and plot that makes it mean anything.

Hey Cohh, a bit off topic but I've been wanting to bring up an idea to someone who has a community about bringing older games back to life. Games that have been out for a few years, unpopulated like the division 1 and having a weekend where the community comes together and plays their favourite games that are just not the same anymore due to no players.
I just miss some of my fav games that are online only and basically dead.
But anyway, keep on keepin on cohh. Your streams and videos are always a fun time!
