Just wanted to chime in and say I followed the exact same tutorial for the S22 Ultra on the Chinese Snapdragon variant and it worked liked a charm. Always nervous doing upgrades on rooted devices, but no issues with this. Thank you for the tutorial friend!
Yeeaaaahh... This is the 1st method that really worked 100%!! S20+ upgrade from Android 11->12, magisk 24.3 core and module (detach / safety net fix etc...). Thanks 100000x
Fully detailed instruction! Just got updated from my original Chinese version to the newly released US version. Much easier and faster than I thought, and I didn't lose any data despite switching to another version. Thx!!!
Thank you so much. Very Informative and useful information specially about keeping your data after update. Just a question, did your contacts, messages, accounts and application log ins stayed intact after the update?
For anyone wondering, unlocking the boot loader does not trip Knox, Knox is only tripped until you gain root access or install any custom sofrware (ROM)
Another tip you can boot to download mode by using Magisk, simply open magisk and at the top right press the arrow going in a circle and press boot to download or it says something like that
One Question Actually I have rooted my galaxy s20 with Magisk and I have patched its imei number (for legal purposes). Im running One UI 3.1 on it and cannot update it to One UI 4.0 because its rooted. So, can I update my phone the way you showed in the video and keep my imei number patched? Expexting a reply
make sure you have enough space on the device to patch the AP file. If you dont have at least the space of the original AP file freed up magisk cant patch the file
Awesome video. Thanks ton. Just to clear a small doubt, like you mentioned OTA won't work automatically so we do need to update every month security update as well as Android version updates by this process right?
Hello! Great video as usually. One question is it possbile to use this method when I upgrade to android 12 and still keep all the data and root access?
It should. it's what I'm still using for the Galaxy Note 10+ and continues to work on the newer phones too. You just may need to use a USB cable on some of these older phones as Samsung has implemented it as a requirement to boot into Download/Recovery Mode feel free to join the community here if you have any other specific questions ruclips.net/channel/UCnowc_KHgjVNj3Y-E-oQ8awjoin
Just to clarify and understand what's going on in the bg, if I would pick the regular CSC file (instead of HOME_CSC), the same update process would work except I would have a "clean install" + magisk + root? Also, when Magisk patches this new AP file, does it copy over anything from the previous installation, other than magisk itself + root? E.g. does it also take the previously installed Magisk Modules? Does it take any other root level OS modifications that any other root apps may have done to the existing OS? Thanks a million for your videos btw! ^_^
OK the short answer is Yes :) Because I did it, and the updated phone has just Magisk "carried over" (actually, it had a magisk stub app and from there it asked to download and install the latest magisk from the github repo). No magisk modules, no other system mods carried over, as far as I can see or suspect. Just root. And yes if you flashed the CSC instead of the HOME_CSC, essentially your internal storage is empty.

My s20 Ultra is unrooted, but KNOX is tripped (meaning can't get updates) however i could update the phone using Smart Switch by Samsung desktop application, so if i went back to root would i still have the ability to update the phone while i have root?
Hello! First of all, thank you for your excellent video and explanations. I have just gone thru all the steps of the video on my S20+ Exynos (Model SM-G985F / CSC - ZTO), but now the phone won't boot. After 3 boot attempts it opens a screen that gives me the following 3 options: (1) "Try again"; (2) "Factory data reset"; and (3) "View recovery logs". If I choose the first option it reboots 3 more times and end on the same screen. I have already checked if the firmware version and it is correct. Do you have any advice that I can use in order to try to resolve this issue? Thank you.
Hi may I ask, I've just updated to Android 12 via this method and everything works fine but Magisk isn't installed, though the Magisk app is. Did I have to reflash magisk in some way? Is there any way to get magisk installed properly without losing data now?

I luckily got it to work again (without the update)!! But sadly my internal storage is empty because i had to completely wipe it because of the encryption. No update for me :(
There is a paid service for unlocking the bootloader of USA snapdragon devices, but it's not something that I recommend since it's not an official feature offered by Samsung themselves. XDA vouches for it, though. If you're just curious about the root/custom ROM community, you may be better off getting an affordable backup phone that is favored by the developer community. These can cost 100-200 on eBay and since it's not your daily driver, you can be less paranoid about the slip ups (bootloops and such) that come along with learning the ins and outs of rooting, custom recoveries/ROMs, etc. Just a thought. I import Exynos versions specifically so I can avoid the issue
@@justinw7323 I assumed it would be around 100, so hearing it's even more is sad. I don't blame you, though. and with the power of ADB, some don't even feel the need to root anymore
