One day i will do videos, i love filming but difficult to fish and film. I dont have a go pro. So for now i do slideshows. Will send you a link when am done. Ive never had a session like that on the vaal.... must plan next trip
Hi Veemal, you take the AHV turn off, there is a Sign there. It’s about 4km from the Draaifontain turn off. Once on the dirt road, drive straight down to the AHV gate and about 150meters from there gate, you will see 2 x reflective strips on the trees on the left, turn there and head straight to the gate. Hi there, I would like to know more about this venue: Is it a deep water venue? What is the dam bed like? Eg, soft mud, hard ground, rocky What are the most productive distances? Is there any good accommodation on the venue or near by that you now of?
Reneela Sooklal, Howzit! The venue has no accommodation at this stage, the owner is still developing it as far as I am aware. Close accommodation is RPA or AHV but you need to be a member there and you might as well fish there, if you staying there. It’s a good place for a day trip. With the water lever being at 36%, you are fishing in a muddy bottom and very close to the river... in fact, the mud actually holds you feet at some points, only when you walking in. I wouldn’t put the venue as deep water for the most part but the bays are deeper, especially when the dam is full. The most productive distance was between 50-60 meters, the bigger fished seemed to come out at that distance. Further 110-115m produced fish but not the same quality! Once there, drive to the left of the venue, around the first bay and find the rocky spot, it’s about 20 meters wide. I am not sure how this venue is when the dam is fuller. Hope this has helped? Franco Kalp, how you doing? I fish to the left, around the first bay and I try get to the rocky spot that’s there. You have to be early though! The water level is dropping and dropping fast, so the past few times I have gone, I fish between 50-60m, the water gets deep close... But put one rod at 110-115m as well and see where the fish are. The venue is very muddy, so keep the feed soft. It takes awhile for the fish to get going but just keep your spot going and the tempo picks up nicely!. Just a side note, you will see an island that on the left side, as the water drops the island becomes more visible, it’s basically in front of the rocky area. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun.
