Bought mine off gearbest for 280 on sale. 20w.
I purchased the same unit. Mine came 80% assembled. All I had to do was build the frame, add the gantry, plug in the wires, and done. It came with a few extra parts, but missing one washer for belt tension, which I already had on hand. Next time you make a mistake in a build, it would be helpful to show both the mistake and the fix. Mine came with zero instructions on the build, and you helped me put it together, though it took longer than it should have, because I had to keep going back to reference your video for the next steps. And to see what mistakes you made.
David, thanks for the updated info and feedback. Lots of learning, notes taken if I ever get back to filming!
This was fabulous tutorial. Thanks so much!
So much work and someone else gives a thumbs down?
Very good job and showing the entire assembly process. Thank you.
Thank you for your kindness!
Dude, thanks so much. I couldn't even begin to put this together without this video. Thanks.
You are awesome for doing this!!! I followed the instructions you provided and made the changes for my larger fixed focus and it was super easy!!! Thanks again!!!
Thanks for the video. Although there were some issues with off frame and wrong instructions, I made it through and was able to assemble my Ortur. I hate other people are so freaking critical and cruel. I appreciate your efforts!
Thank you, your thoughts are accurate and I'm learning. I knew nothing about video creation prior to making this!
Very good instructions. I was able to follow along and assemble my new engraver without very much confusion at all. Thank you
Hi, Do you know of the New Ortur Master 400 series.
Is there anything to stop putting Longer rails to extend work area, phyisicaly I guess not, but what about in the firmware?
Thanks for the video
hi, what parameters do you need to engrave a photo on this machine?
How do you focus the laser?
Are the files available without Facebook?
I hit start and the laser didn't come on? The motor ran as if was on.
S'il vous plaît, combien la durée de vie le diode de la orture?
Thank you! This made building so much easier!
Hi, I need some help, i have just purchased laser master 2s2, and set it up, the only trouble is the X-axis is not moving, I have checked the cables and when i home the y-axis moves but the x-axis does not, plus the laser GRBL shows an icon that says 'Alarm' can you help?
I don't know much about the 2s2, specifically, but common reasons why an axis won't move usually include not connecting the wires correctly (maybe wrong ports on the board itself? ), too much tension on a belt, or a bad motor to start with. Do you have a multimeter to be able to test your connections?
My third foot doesn’t have a flat slot to put the timing belt in ? I have the same laser set up
Glad to know it wasn't just mine. Mine was missing a belt slot also. Used one of the others as a template, drilled it out and filed it to shape.
My cable set of the Ortur laser master 2 is broken because the cables are all quite short.
Where could I buy a new one?
Preferably within Europe if possible.
aliexpress is where I would start
Hello just got my laser set up /cant seam to download the manuel the web site wont load .even tried there suggestion to go to tinyurl .can anyone help me
have you tried looking in the Files Section of the Ortur Facebook group? facebook.com/groups/orturusergroup/files
Do all models come with the safety goggles? I just bought a pair because my site didnt show goggles when I bought it.
Yes they do
Could I use the Ortur rotary on laser master 2?
Jenny, yes you can use the rotary with the LM2. In fact, they now offer both items together as a combo pack.
Thinking about getting one of these but need to know if it the right one. I am doing cutting boards - serving trays and want to do some custom engraving on them. They will be about 18x12. Some larger some smaller. I guess the question is can I place this on top of the project to engrave what I need to? None of the engravings will cover the entire project, just initials or other images onto it. How large is the actual engraving area? Thanks
The 15W would be a great choice for what you're doing. The actual engraving area is 400mm by 430mm, which should be sufficient for most cutting boards
And yes, you can place the machine on top of your work. You just may want to get an adjustable z-height adapter, to get the optimal distance between the laser module and the surface
What is the best wood to engrave? I read online that alder, maple is good? What do you recommend and have you engraved a bamboo cutting board before?
I have only been able to do a few small things on pine for testing. Bamboo cutting boards are very popular, but I have no experience with them or the alder or maple. In general, I know that having an air assist and using painter's tape are good ways to improve the engraving, no matter what wood you're using.
Thank you - it would’ve taken me far longer than it did without this video... ;)
Thank you for your kind words!
can anyone help? I've assembled the laser engraver, and downloaded Lightburn trial, but don't I need a driver? When I open Lightburn, it does not recognize the laser. I says "waiting on connection". Did i skip a step? Super frustrated and ready to send back. is it even compatible with iOS? or do I need to have a windows laptop?
Some quick research shows that you want to start Lightburn first, then turn on the LM2. Also, if you have more than one COM port, you will have to manually select it in Lightburn. Hope this helps!
At 20:07 in the video, top of the screen in between the usb (?) cable and your arm ... what is that piece? I can't find a reference to it in the manual.
It is a piece that is only used on the 7 watt version, to feed the wiring into the coiled sleeves. If you have the 15 or 20 watt versions, you don't need it.
@@ce3dprinting94 Ahhh OK, thanks (I have the 20W). It has been driving me nuts! Cheers
Tip for anyone watching: put the feet on before the gantry. It is not otherwise intuitive that you should have two wheels on the top side of the frame and one in the bottom side of the frame. It will also make positioning the timing belts later easier.
Thanks so much for the great video. I have a question I was hoping you could answer for me. I’d mostly be engraving on cutting boards but sometimes the cutting boards I make are slightly larger than the Ortur frame. Is it possible to engrave on larger objects by placing the Ortur legs on some blocks of wood to raise it up and then sliding the large cutting board underneath of the raised Ortur? I hope that makes sense. I appreciate your help!
Sorry for the delayed response! You can put the whole machine on supports, but the focus length would be changed and likely cause issues with getting a clean engraving
When it homes the motor doesn’t stop I think maybe the limit switch doesn’t work? Or is this a driver issue?
Most likely the limit switch. Try manually triggering it while the motor is in motion. If it stops, you just need to adjust the switch's position. If it doesn't stop, check the connections on both ends
I've been debating adding one of these to my bench, but I dont want to get one and it be a waste of money. Do you think the laser module could be mounted to a 3d printer instead?
It can, but you don't need to buy this if that is your plan. They make replacement modules that you can buy on their own, a little less expensive that way.
Hi
Thank for sharing
I'm facing one issue with the area of engraving.
I can't adjust the size W & H separately.
If i adjust the W the H will be automatically adjusted.
Can you please help on that
Haythem, I'm sorry for the delayed response! I don't know which software you're using, but most have an option to click a "lock" icon near where height and width are entered. That should allow you to scale each independently. Maybe knowing which software you're using could help me answer your question more accurately.
@@ce3dprinting94 thank you for your response dear
Im using laserGRBL
@@haythemelnour763 , LaserGRBL would require you to non-uniformly scale your image in another program first (like GIMP or Inkscape).
Awesome thanks for the video
Great video! These machines take some work to assemble but so worth it!
I agree!
Thank you for making this video. While there may be areas to improve (which you have freely acknowledged), I would not have been able to assemble my engraver without your help.
George, thank you for your kind words
I just build mine and it doesn't sit level. Is there a way to adjust it or is one of my frame bars just slightly warped?
Did you check the squareness of the frame? You can check if one of the bars is warped by placing a straight edge (ruler or level) on each piece, looking for a gap between the edge and the bar
Loosen all of the assembly corner screws, and L brackets. Set it on a level surface then re-tighten.
Great instructions! Thanks!
I know there were a few errors, but thank you for the encouragement!
Hello, have you tested engraving on metal like dog tags or keychains? Will this engrave those items?
Ryan, I have not yet tested engraving on metal. There are several people who have had conversations about it on the Ortur Owners' Facebook group though. I recommend you check the group out: facebook.com/groups/orturusergroup
I just ordered and put this together using your video, thanks! However, the Laser 4 now has what looks like wire connector hooks. Not sure if these are for grounding or what and where to put them. Anyone else run into this?
Those are grounding lugs
Found this very helpful, glad you kept your mistakes in as it helped me understand why things went the other way around etc!
Not sure why some are so negative, I though this was great.
Thank you for the kind words, Raumarik!
HI, quick question-i have the ortur 20w and I assume the metal cylinder- about an inch tall is for height gauge. if you can confirm
thanks
Yes, the cylinder is a new addition, since the z-height is now adjustable. It should be placed between the bottom of the lens to the top of your surface being engraved.
This had me s confused! So glad you posted, the long thumbscrew makes sense now to hold it in position :)
@@ce3dprinting94 Hello, I have watched several of these Othur how to videos and no one ever gives the proper height of the laser to the workpiece. Can you clarify this? thank you
What a great tutorial. Thank you very much. In the installation process, I discovered that my box contained only two corner feet. Can you suggest how I can contact Ortur support to have them ship me the third leg. I might be able to build the third leg using one other leg as a pattern. What would you suggest.
Larry, where did you purchase your LM2 from? If Aliexpress, contact Ariel using the Facebook group for the fastest response. The best thing in my opinion is to have them send you another foot.
Thank you so much for the video.
Are you going to upload videos how to use the laser machine?
If I can find the time! I started a new job recently that has consumed much more of my time than my previous one did.
Helped me fix my motor issues thank you
Hi I don't understand why my wheel doesn't go inside the aluminium profile they look too big.
Mathew, they don't fit inside the groove, but instead ride on top of it
I connected the device to the computer, but the computer does not see it, what should I do?
There could be a number of reasons for this. 1st, check to make sure the machine is turned on, before plugging it in. 2nd, you may need to update/ download the latest drivers for your computer. It's tough to provide more guidance without knowing more about your PC specs
Can it engrave on transparent acrylic?
Victor, I haven't tried this yet, but I have seen others doing it. Check the Ortur FB group for more details
Thank you for the video it was very helpful
Thank you, William. I know I made a few errors but in glad it's still helpful
Hi
My Ortur LaserMaster 2( 15w) was working nice for 2 months but today the laser head is not moving at all. What do you think is it a softwer problem? I already checked everything :( Thank you
There are a lot of variables here.... are you able to test the motors that drive the X axis and Y axis, to make sure they work? I would start there, then move to the controller board
@@ce3dprinting94 Yes everything looks fine and I checked electric boards as well. On PCB there isn't anything burned out
Margo, I'm sorry I can't be more help. If you can move the motors by hand, and electrically, it's possible you may need to reinstall drivers on your computer. But again, many variables
@@ce3dprinting94
Already done, working nice again :) Thank you
I cant seem to get my belts 100% on correctly, straight lines keep wiggling. The one connected to the limit switch is the main issue. If I try to tighten it from the back end, it pulls the limit switch forward (because its literally 'floating') and trying to deal with the belt through that end is even worse because the belt goes through the same hole that the screw does, so just the act of putting the screw in, pushes the belt back, creating slack.
If you have the same set up, I believe you have the limit switch in the wrong place. Mine is located on the underside of the frame, so that it contacts the bottom wheel
I threaded the rubber tracks through as I installed the x axis, it seemed to be easier.
Thanks for sharing the tip!
Hi thanks for your video, got it together after a few hours lol, im struggling at the moment with downloading the drivers, ive downloaded lightburn, but my pc won't find the actually laser through usb,
Did you use the tinyurl in the digital manual to download the driver? If so, did you unzip the file and update the driver through Device Manager?
@@ce3dprinting94 thanks for your reply, I haven't used any digital manual is that where I've gone wrong?
I'd start there first
@@ce3dprinting94 thanks, ive had one of them days, should have actually read the manual 😆

Great Video! I just bought one and now playing the wait game. quick question how long is the USB cable? in my shop I have a small CNC machine, and the computer is mounted.
The supplied USB cable measured 55 inches

thanks so much for a great tutorial. I ordered mine and can't wait to get it. I believe you mentioned that on the ortur website is a link for a free trial of lightburn, but I do not see it. also, that test pattern that you burned in your video. where did you get that please. I don't see it on the ortur website either. thanks
Steve, the link to the free trial of Lightburn is just a link to their website provided in the digital documents when you receive the machine. The test file is found in the Files section of the Facebook group
Great tutorial, I’ve just completed the build and now needing the software. Is it Mac compatible and please advise on the link for the zip file.
Video description updated per your request!
CE3D Printing thanks for your reply back, but I don’t understand. I’m inquiring about how to obtain the software zip file that you mentioned in your video. Please advise
Anthony, the tinyurl link that is now in the video description is the link i reference

Thanks for thinking so!
Im having trouble putting the frame together idk what im doing
What seems to be causing your frustration? Is there something in the video that is confusing? If needed, you can find me on FB @ce3dprinting
@@ce3dprinting94 i figured it out after breaking one of the corner pieces
Sorry to hear that!
Ya it sucks luckily they sending me a knew one and the screws to old the lazer but imma still follow you on fb
Looking at purchasing a 20w version but not sure why the price is so different between Amazon and gearbest. It's more than $100 less on gearbest.
Looks like people are having trouble receiving theirs from Gearbest. I ordered from Gearbest and it arrived in less than 2 weeks.
What timing! I just got my Ortur and found your YT instructions. So much better than the Word doc that Ortur provided! Could you provide tips on how to square the frame? I ended up loosening the M5 screws about a full turn, using a pair of carpenter's squares on opposite corners (while laying the whole thing on a glass tabletop), and gradually tightening the setscrews. This worked pretty well. Then I tightened the M5 screws.
Also, how important is the tightness of the timing belts? It looked like you really pulled them tight.
Thanks for a great job and big help!
Dennis, thanks and I'm so glad this helped! Your method is a great one for squaring the frame. As for the tightness of belts, you want then tight enough that when you push/pull the x-axis assembly, you don't hear the belt skipping over the gear, but not so tight that you struggle to move the assembly. That might seem vague, but it's a "feeling" rather than specific torque. Hope that helps

Can I use it here?
For what purpose? Etching on, cutting through, replacement parts, something else?

"Still SMOKIN!" A Very Good video! That means I don't have to make a video of MY unboxing, assembly and test fires. I bought two of these on sale last night. How long did you wait after your purchase? Your video will help us immensely! We got the 20 watt versions. I think I need to buy extra safety glasses and shielding for the laser. Do you know of the best deals for that kind of thing?
I don't currently have a recommendation for safety glasses, but you can search for "400-450nm glasses" on Amazon. The laser operates between 440-450nm
@@ce3dprinting94 Thanks.
I just assembled mine tonight - is it ok to have the belts be so tight? Did you run into any issues? thanks for the awesome video!
They only need to be tight enough so that they don't slip when the toothed gears move along them. I've had no issues so far
I'm having issues with it like it starts bouncing back n forth I have to tap it and it will then move any advice?

Hey, thanks for wasting half an hour by showing me to put the square bits on the wrong side. I know you something about sorting it out later but at that point why the hell not just edit you doing it again into the first part so we dont all fuck up too? I think il go back to following the manual instead of finishing this video 😑
Thanks for your thoughtful and kind words of constructive criticism. I don't have the ability to go back and refilm this, unfortunately, which is why I make the statement in the audio. I will learn from this and work to get better in the future.
thanks for doing this video but i had to rebuild the dang thing 4 times because i did it by watching and not sound. then i turned on sound and fixed stuff then your commentary was in error.
I'm very sorry. This was my first assembly video and did not have the capability of refilming.
I think you called the long extrusions short and the short long starting at 6:00
Sorry for the confusion!
CE3D Printing no worries just had me scratching my head for a minute while assembling mine lol. My phone didn’t want to open the directions with the QR code so I just used your video 😉 thanks for the walk through.
I watched the official video, loads better even with no speech guidance. Can't knock you trying, but there's some parts which are just plain incorrect (like the flat bolts going down the wrong side).
Thanks for the feedback
Please be advised gear best is selling them but not shipping i waitted 40 days and never got it. They just kept saying it will ship every week that i asked for a month. Feels like scam scam scam
No problems here......got mine within 2 weeks of ordering from GearBest. Only problem is the sent one leg/foot without a slot for the belt....so I have to drill out a little slot so the belt can slide through and tighten down.
Music is very 80s.
I buyed it, so disapointed. The laser can not focus to a dot, it makes a line or small rectangle. i think was a hardware problem but it isn't, they say the laser diode is that form. Try to write small letters with a chisel point marker, thats the results you'll have. Also i still can not marking anodized aluminium or stainless steel, and the instructions says is capable of that. The ortur service only limits to re send me captures of the instructions. I would return it if i could but they say the machine functions are normal. Damm i must have buyed the neje but saw the reviews too late.
Dorian, sorry to hear you're experiencing difficulties. Have you tried using a coating such as nail polish or dry moly?
@@ce3dprinting94 yea, i used nail polish and a black water and oil marker, 3 pass 60mm/min the moly was inpossible to get in here, im in mexico, (also buying the laser was an achievement,) the only thing was marked was my finger with that hot spoon, lol, also thanks for your video, helps a lot, i saw it fist time while chatting with my wife and dont put attention about that 4 squared nuts... Then wft? When almost finished🤣
you need to raise your material closer to the laser - you will then see the dot
@@retrodad1973 well my friend, thanks for your response, you know the laser was in fact defective, was losing power over days, there is not capable of even engraving anything, the ortur people doesnt believe that and send me settings and settings and screenshots for configuring it... I payed more in the end, those ortur guys on aliexpress was very hard jaw. For a little and has to keep the useless device. So sad. Well, i hope the new module works ok....,,😣
Please be so kind to remove this video, it's wrong and wasting people's time
Why is it wrong?
You got your limit switch wrong
Mentioning the belt after the screw step helps no one, garunteed everyone who builds along has to retighten top belt because you don't mention it till after motor is mounted.
Suggestion - Your video has SEVERAL ERRORS that you should either correct and repost or pull down the video. Not trying to be mean just I spent twice as much assembly time as I should have following your video
Horrible - Totally off frame and wrong assembly instructions...was this some kind of trick?
Ya like at 25:00 minutes it was just a frame then all of a sudden there is a belt in the track and he is tightening it ?? where did the belt come from ??...next
It was my very first attempt at videoing all on my own. I attempted to correct my video errors via the audio, as I don't have the ability to refilm. I'm happy to receive helpful feedback to make things better in the future :)
I appreciate the resource but the instructions are not very clear in your description or visually and can easily lead to a lot of errors in assembly. Very frustrating to follow along at times. For example at 16:57 when you recommend to thread the belt prior to screwing after you already finished that step. The viewer is following along so almost certainly that isn't helpful.
Not trying to sound ungrateful for your video as it is helpful, but just hope future viewers can save some headaches I had.
Thank you for the constructive feedback!
Camera angles are shocking lighting shocking. Put tue feet on a 9 minutes where was the belts go???? Poxy video
