You inspired me to do the same thing. I'm doing a different end connection, but same idea. I accidentally ordered the wrong connector, and when I ordered the correct housing, they only had the item with no wire leads in stock. I decided to take apart the one with the wrong housing to see how it was constructed inside. I offer this discovery in the event that you're ever doing this again and want to avoid having the unneeded brown wire being connect. Popping the wires out is fairly simple on the three prong. Just depress the two external most arms at the same time on the white insert in the photo. You'll press them from the rear of the housing once you've opened it. The white housing should just fall out, allowing you to simply pull the wire you don't want from the front. You'll need to pull it through the rubber moisture barrier first, but that's quite straightforward. It only goes back together in a single way, so no chance that I can see of going wrong. Now I don't have an unnecessary wire connected to a circuit or dangling about. Thanks again for your video!
Hi mate. Loads of different ways to do it, so good to hear your doing it your way 👍. Those plugs, pins etc are similar to deutz connectors, I use them at work, so have to pin tool etc for them. Im sure I put link for the plug but not cheap with wiring there so guess thats why you did it other way 👍. And yep. Wont allow pics on comments 🫣.. Cheers 👊
Dead useful and thanks! I used one of the 12v heated accessory plugs under the seat and ran a cable under the tank to one of the fairing support rails. I added a combination 12v lighter socket and usb port…it’s really discrete and you’d never know it was there unless you looked for it…my mate said it looked factory, which I took as a real compliment. Had I known you could do this I may have used this option, however I like the idea of being able to look at my phone whilst riding, so have I the usb cable nearer the front of the bike was my preference(and I can also use the old school lighter style plug to blow up my airbed when camping ! I didn’t want to use the usb c on the head unit and risk wearing it out prematurely as I’ve heard that can happen !
Cheers 👍. Glad you found a way to wire in to the bars. I suppose we do it to fit how we use the bike. I fitted a quadlock powered adapter off battery for my power source, so can use that for anything usb related, along with under seat option. I have just fitted an ec5 jump plug , with sae adapter for extra power source. Only reason I didnt use heated plug output is I use heated gear. But as said. The centre one is accessory, or for the extra daymaker lights if fitted 👍. Thanks for watching
@@ALCHEMOTO you’ve got me thinking now I should explore this as an alternative option, so I can charge items stored in my soft panniers or even my top box, like an iPad / battery bank for example when I’m travelling, so that I can use it in the tent during the evenings! Don’t suppose you have a link for the usb block that you fitted under the seat ?
@@mattgolding7557I use it for same purpose, feed into camera bag on tours. The usb block is a flush mount, so just search for flush mount usb charger 12v. 👍
Hi pete. Do you mean where I got chrome ones or brass ones? Brasd ones I got made up as cant get them from any bike shops. Chrome ones were harley genuine rocker bolt caps. Cheers
really good video man! makes you wonder why the factory didn't do that from the get go.....i've looked at doing something with the heated gear plugs for a charging port.......sláinte
Cheers 👊.. that would have been a $600 option 😂.. you can get an adapter for the heated gear plug to sae, then sae to usb. Bit more linking . I was going to do same but will be using that port for heated seat for next winter 👍
@@ALCHEMOTO good point on the $600 option! lol!!! I really don't want to use that USB-C that is up on the dash for some reason, I need to come up with something

Bloody hell a ten minute video showing how to wire in a bloody usb port! If you need a video tutorial to do this I suggest you don't try it. :)
Some people arent as clever as you though pal🤔.. and may just blow a fuse 😁
@@ALCHEMOTO not clever just basic life skills.
Basic life skills to you maybe, but like he says some people might not know this shit. What’s the harm in putting out a video to help people out?
