I absolutely agree. In Russia, the students at Vaganova have piano lessons, and I think it really helps to play an instrument and to be able to read music. Many people say it’s a waste of time and takes away time that the students need for ballet training, but I disagree. It’s also very important to train your ears, and you listen to music in a different way when you understand it.
I really related to Tiler's injury. Not knowing if she would ever dance again. That was me, 9 years ago. I had a brain tumor removed from my Cerebellum which controls the balance part of your brain. When I was healed and able to dance again, I totally felt so grateful and complete joy. Also a real appreciation for dance and life that I never felt in that way before.😊❤❤❤

Haha. I just judged a dance competition last weekend and I said EXACTLY the title of this video in one of my comments to a dancer.... I was explaining that she needed to study more ballet technique and learn placement because her spine was arched and her shoulder blades pinched closed, ribcage totally open in the front. I was telling her that she needed to learn how to do things correctly, then once you know HOW to do that .. THEN you can break the rules! But if you can't do it correctly, it will never work. Only when you know all the right things for aligning the body can you stretch the positions of various body parts to make it look even better while still maintaining control. AWESOME. I love seeing things I'm teaching reinforced and taught by others.

Not only young students, but as a mature dancer who only started at the age of 26 (I'm 35 now) I learn so much and it challenges me to think differently about my dancing and how to find joy in expressing myself though this art form by not comparing to others, but rather focus on what makes me happy and makes me unique. And also props to you Isabella for asking such insightful questions and interesting topics ❤🙌🏻 You can tell you really did your research and listened carefully to what Tiler was speaking about. You can teach musicality. You can speak of rhythm, dynamic, melody, feeling of the music. You have ro break it down.
