  • Silver Fern Therapy provides clinical wheelchair assessments for all ages and diagnoses. Most of the work we do is in client's homes where we assess, trial and prescribe manual and powered wheelchairs. A lot of the products we recommend need to be tested prior to our clients using them, and this is what this series of videos is all about. This video looks into the outdoor performance of the Quickie Q700M powered wheelchair by Sunrise Medical.

I recently purchased a Quickie M 700. It's a great wheelchair, probably the most renewable wheelchair I've ever owned. There's nothing wrong with your review but it would probably be more helpful if you took it into a town centre and run in and out of shops. Show people how maneuverable it is around the house. How many people are going to be traveling up and down muddy lanes? Most people will be using these wheelchairs in their home or when they go out. The last thing I ever do is take my wheelchair where it's very muddy, all that does is creates problems for everyone.
I really like the M700 but the one thing I don't like about it is the fact that there is no way to hang a bag on the back of the chair. I've also got the Permobil Corpus 500 which I've had for nearly 10 years now. I've got a storage box attached to the back of the chair and I am also able to attach a rucksack to clips on the back of the chair. This chair is fantastic because it enables me to carry a lot of my fishing tackle taking away the need for my carer to carry everything. This chair is getting old now and I don't want another Permobil. I was contemplating another quickie with a front-wheel drive. However, I'm reluctant to get one because I won't be able to carry anything.
Great wheelchairs, but more thought should have gone into their design when it comes to carrying luggage. I may have overlooked the fact that you can get attachments for the wheelchair so if that is the case then someone please let me know

I disagree wny chair will cope fine going in and out of shops around the house etc especially with a midwheel drive theres plenty of videos about showing midwheel drive chairs inside etc this video is far more informative

I didn''t like not having anything to hang a bag either. If I would have known that before I received it, I would've looked for a different model. The only choice to hang a heavy bag on the back, was to install pushkandles to ´the back . There are two holes on top of the back "box" where they slide into.
Driving the chair over curbs is easier, but I don't like the extreme soft suspension. I feel like a rubber ball bouncing around. Compared to my old Groove M I don't enjoy driving it. I`ve only had it for a few weeks and I´m using the old one again. Can the springs be replaced for harder ones?

I could not tell what kind of tire you had on the chair, but a knobby tire will always do much better in those conditions- think of every dirt bike you’ve ever seen.
I am in the process of getting a new chair, a QM is still at the top of my list(sitting in my QM 710 now!) mid wheel drive is the best, and it has a tight turning radius.

An okay review but this was more a test of the tires capability under muddy conditions than the wheelchair. What would be better is showing it going up and down steep hills on pavement and then doing the same on dry off road conditions. When you have mud or snow you are no longer measuring the chairs capability but the quality of the tires on the chair which may vary from location to location depending on the suppliers in those areas: North American vs Australia vs others. I think a good test would show it going up and down curbs, hills and things like turning radius and others. Well intentioned but did not give me much other than to say the tires will slip when they get coated with mud. Something I could foresee in advance.

I'm sorry but this 'Outdoor Review' takes the mid-wheel drive Quickie qm710 into the way wrong conditions! This is a great PWC that has a working suspension, unprecedented characteristics on dry surfaces. The patented Spider Trac suspension will descend a four-inch curb wo dumping the driver. Read reviews (complaints) that emphasize locked-up articulating arms due to wetness. I'm coming up on a year in my qm710. At 465 miles, everything works great, but, I've not so much as gone through a puddle of water due to manufacturer's warning. You want mud and water, get an off-road PWC!

Hi Bill, you're completely right! But without pushing a chair beyond its limits, the limit can't be known. No many people can afford to have a power chair for dry, indoor conditions as well for outdoor/off road/wet terrain so one power chair can be used in multiple environments, hence our review. We don't expect anyone to be using the Q700M in the conditions we tested it in, but we're happy to do that on our patients' behalf and discover where the limit is. John

My new Q700M will be here in a couple days, my Q Pulse 6 is worn out. It's nice to know the capabilities of my new chair, doesn't mean I would off road it, but just in case, this helps knowing what it can do. Thanks.

Having used my qm710 for 1,000 miles now, I encourage you to read the Owner's Manual and take heed of their limitations. Take yours on ONE ride as shown and you will regret doing so...it is not anything close to having off-road capabilities, unfortunately.

On the mud puddles, did you ride the ridges of the puddle, or allow love side the drop into the depth of the puddle?

Zip ties are your buddy- have several pencil zip cases(for binders) cable tied to to the armrests. Works like a charm! Both the ties and pencil bags were through Amazon.
