As a 71 year old fella who paints very badly but loves watching videos on RUclips of all things Art, I just came across your channel, watching you paint with your friend it was clear to me that not only do you both enjoy each others company very much you also both have a casual but positive approach to ein plain air painting, sadly living in West Bromwich and a good distance from the sea and not being able too walk too far I rely on my mobility scooter to get me out and about and although it has a range of around 25 miles I always tend to end up at Dartmouth Park near to the town centre, and then a thought came to my mind, why not put a sketchbook, a small palette of paints and a couple of water brushes in my basket, and a small bottle of CLEAN water as well, thank you both for such a relaxing and interesting video, I have subbed and liked. Being outside is such a healing experience and painting outside is like soul food; I think you’d love it! I have several short videos showing different ideas and pencil cases for small art kits and am planning a longer one soon that might also provide some inspiration. The wonderful thing about making art is that it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are; it’s always enriching. 😊
Hi @MikeMountford21 there are folks not far behind you in age and with mobility issues. I've been painting for a few years to help the healing process. I've learned to make do with the smallest amout of art supplies to get outside, enjoy the journey, and you may meet some fun people on the way. You just may surprise yourself on the many things you'll learn about, not just painting either..wildlife experiences, natural beauty, and don't forget to date your paintings. I am envious of those that have such beautiful villages and country side to paint as you do. Enjoy your journey, many blessings!

I like seeing these places in the UK that inspire me to one day visit. I also liked your postcard painting and wanted to share my story, I’ve been painting and writing a weekly postcard to my father, which I started during the Covid lockdown. He just turned 99 and it been the best way to talk to my dad! So go ahead send the post card some will love it. Tom
It looks like a wonderful place to paint! Poppy seems to enjoy it too. It is hard to see pollution ruin our seas and close our beaches for swimming. Who can change the laws about dumping? We need to preserve these areas for us and generation’s to come.
I so enjoyed this! I am on my way to Nevada from Los Angeles for a 10 day painting trip in a couple of weeks. It is a 9 hour drive through the Sierra Mountains and past stunning scenery. I will stop along the way to paint and also use watercolor. I think I will bring some of my postcards as they are the perfect size for sketching the beautiful mountains and streams. I just read Thomas Hardy’s story The Distracted Preacher which takes place in southwest England and is about the whole town being happy smugglers. Thanks for the scenery!
I love your conversations when you sketch with someone. I went to watch the trailer for Clarkson’s Farm and it looks hilarious! I’m going to have to watch it. For those here in America, we can get it here also on Prime Video. I’m so sorry about the dumping. I live on the Great Lakes in Michigan. I’m in the “tip of the thumb” of the mitten in the lower penninsula on Lake Huron. Thankfully we have very strict laws on dumping and the punishment is astronomical. The biggest issue is when ships come through the St. Lawrence seaway and over to the Great Lakes they bring with is whatever attaches to their ship. In the last 20 years there was a horrific problem with zebra mussels. They are meant for salt water but easily adapted to fresh and pretty much cleared the lakes of plankton and other edible food sources for fish. Also ground cover for fish. It cleared the lakes. The lakes looked beautiful but certain species of fish were dying off. Thankfully they are getting them under control now and the Dept of Natural Resources has restocked the lakes to help increase population.
I hear you, Sharon! I grew up with regular trips to Door County and we’ll remember the mussels infestation! And yes, it’s great that such efforts have been made to reclaim and keep the Great Lakes clean! You’re making me miss them. 😊

Hi Leslie, we moved to Dawlish two years ago. The first year my daughters and son in law enjoyed going in the sea locally but last year my daughter got a bad ear infection after going in the sea. Recently a lot of people and pets have been so ill in Brixham. SWW admit it was a broken pipe under the surface of a field of cows! Please don’t let Poppy go in the water.😢
That’s awful about your daughter; I’m so sorry. The last time I went swimming was (best recollection) 2020 or 2021 (late summer). It was at this beach and I had a wonderful swim but didn’t feel well afterwards, so now I sadly stick to pools. It makes me want to move to Scotland. Fortunately, Poppy is not the sort of dog to swim, so that is at least good. I am going to start donating to SAS (Surfers Against Sewage). It’s difficult to know what else we can do, but they will have good advice. Maybe the general election this summer will bring about changes in terms of holding SW Water accountable, but I’ve learned not to hold my breath about politicians on any side of the aisle helping with these sorts of things. In a lighter note, you are spoilt for choice about beautiful places to paint around here. 😊

I've been taking a little break from the shorts... totally burnt out after nearly three years of regularly creating them. I'm more excited about the long ones for now, so I've committed to one per week for 2024 (and hopefully beyond!). I do post three extra videos per month over on Patreon though. And I'll be making more shorts too... I have a few ideas I'm planning for those! :)

I have painted the area where fires burned through 4 years ago--just to sort of give recognition to the environment and its destruction instead of ignoring it and painting only nice places

@@LeslieStroz I guess because we are the oldest tourist town in NA. And the only one laid out like Europe. I did participate in their once a year Plein Air event (for a fee) I enjoyed it so much. I thought maybe a small book then just take a good photo. The only thing I think is maybe the don't want easels everywhere...traffic hazard? I use a lap board works better for me anyway. I have to do some more digging.

It looks so awesome to paint at the beach with the sound of the waves and a best friend and cute dogs too . I just wondered if you would swim when you mentioned about the pollution , thàt's really really sad and disturbing that such things still happens .
It’s pretty unbelievable that in 2024 it’s still happening. It’s pretty recent too. Our beaches had Blue Flag status once (international recognition for the cleanest beaches). I hated making it a topic for discussion in what is supposed to be a creative art space for inspiration and escaping the world’s troubles, but I felt it would be remiss not to give it a mention. Normally, my videos are quite positive, so hopefully you’ll not give up on me! 😊

I do mail my post cards that I've painted to family and friends..I carry a packet of stamps for post cards..and a mailing list.(yes I'm old school). I've even given them to the Park Rangers and staff with a written thankyou note on the reverse side. Spread the joy...
The Art Tool kits are working so well. I'm so happy Rosemary & Co have them now but I am waiting for the bigger one to come back in stock. I have several of the smaller ones. Carrying Gouache seemed to work well. I too had a mini with some in but I have watercolours in it at the moment. I think I may go back - the joy of these palettes is you can just rejig them so easily. Thank you for the video. And I love your diffrerent styles.
Yes, I love the Folio Palette for larger paintings! It’s really not that large and is so much lighter than a standard metal palette. I’ve been loving all of these palettes. 😊
Beautiful paintings. Looks like you both had a good time relaxing and painting. The dog seemed to have a good time also. It is tragic that in this day and age we must still fight dumping and pollution. We need world wide cooperation to correct the past wrongs on pollution and global warming. Good for you for painting reality. One thing I love about plein air painting is the opportunity to record our world as it is now.
