I like the idea of a light tan close to the siding color with a scrubable finish. Could put some hooks for coats, scarves, & hats on that built out wall. Also a drain pan to put boots and shoes as you come in. This would be good for quick exit to the backyard.
As a retired locksmith I would recommend you chisel the plate cut out down the 1/8 inch you need. Open the latch/bolt hole up as well to prevent drag. Once they are aliened and installed you use white door caulking to fill in the 1/8 inch exposed plate cut out. Love what you do keep up the great work, and give your wife a warm fuzzy hug from a random stranger who holds a place for your family in her heart.
Now that was the perfect way to offer advice and compliment the family. Warm, sweet comment, perfectly expressed. I aspire to be able to express myself as well. ❤️
@@b_uppy Our home is a light grey and I had painted the door the same blue in satin and it looked marvelous. I painted it black this year but might switch back to the blue come spring.
It seems like most everyone agrees with light gray, and I agree!. And maybe even the gray going into the kitchen, depending on what you guys are already planning. I have been meaning to mention it for a long while ... Ashley's hair is beautiful !!!
Doug, I think you should paint the walls around the back door. I would go with a gray color that will blend well with your blue door. You and Ashley are doing a wonderful job making your house a home. Keep up the good job! Your chickens want to be close to you and your family. We had chickens that would do the same thing when we were little. They must of thought they were a part of our family. Lol.
Michigan has gray skies so much from November to April. Why bring the gray indoors! I very much agree with those who say the panels look great the way they are. I also agree that Ashley should be the one to choose how her home looks. And she is so artistic!
Why are you labeling it as Ashley's kitchen? It seems to me they do everything together. Why would they not choose a paint color for their kitchen together?
beteeho The reason I labeled it ‘Ashley’s’ kitchen is because right now she’s going thru a tough time and I wanted her to know that we women are proud of her and that she’s strong enough to pick her own color without feeling like she has to take my suggestions! In most homes, the kitchen is the woman’s favorite room. So I just thought it would be fun to see her taste and preference on the room! That’s all!
DIYfferent is my favorite daily fix. It is exciting seeing each project come together. I thank you for taking a whole bunch of strangers on this ride with your family.
Definetly get a partial refund on this door too!! Don’t let them get away with it! Take lots of pictures and tell them you will name their company if the can’t give you a decent explanation and refund for all the extra trouble!😡
I agree, but if they were to choose white an eggshell finish might help them make cleaning easier, even though sounds like a big hassle in a working homestead. Our kitchen island and all trim is white and washable, very easy to clean right up but it does get dirty very quickly. Something to keep in mind. I do like the idea of how clean, bright and spacious the white walls make the house look though.
@@vintagechicbridalboutique4611 I like gray instead of another blue next to the blue door. Just my opinion, but it would help balance out the other gray touches (the tile, etc) that are going to be in the kitchen area and tie them together visually. If they have a whole blue area in just one place in that room, it will be unbalanced as there is no other blue -unless they do accent touches in that color (dish towels, curtains, kitchen chairs, etc). But, I'm sure whatever they choose will look very nice.
If this has happened two times with your doors, you can rest assured that the first time you went into Home Depot, the reason they were so helpful and gave you such a deep discount was because when they contacted the supplier they were told that this has been a reoccurring issue. I bet that if you were to visit Home Depot in the next week or two, this style door will either no longer be in the store or will be on clearance. The $175 you got back on the first door is most likely the difference between the original cost and the wholesale cost to HD. HD then goes to the supplier and gets their money back. Go see them again, I'll bet you end up with another $175 back! :) ... the fact that you have video backing your experience is perfect... everyone should do this as a CYA policy! :)
sks_bc we bought two doors from Home Depot... both had issues... only got one fixed... the company would help with the second one... even Home Depot agreed with us... we won’t buy from them again. Or even recommend them.
Since money talks, I would let them know the issues with the second door! Hopefully the manufacturer will make adjustments to their equipment and save other customers having to deal with the mess and frustration.
As an accent color to the door entry, I really like the idea of a pale sunshine yellow. It would go with the blue of the door, and white theme of the walls. The winter light coming in through the window of the door would be warmed up by the color. Especially with all the cooler colors in the home of blue and white, the yellow would warm the atmosphere in the kitchen, and bring sunlight reflections into the kitchen.
I'm an artist so the warmth and coolness of colors are important to me. 😁 Although other colors will match and go well with your current color theme, think of how the blue of the sky, and the white of the clouds look more beautiful with the warmth of sunlight.
I was going to suggest the yellow as well, and for the same reasons! =) I'm actually hoping they do the bottom cabinets the same navy and the uppers ,white , open shelving and cupboards ..with navy and yellow accents in dishes, mugs, linens, etc. It would look stunning!
Nice contrast on the door with the siding, Doug and Ashley. It's a very warm and welcoming entranceway . Great choice of doors. Can you show how the blind works in the window. I like the natural wood colour of this siding. You don't really want 3 different colours in this space do you.?White will make your door really stick out. So I am suggesting leave this siding paint the trim white. Put a sealing clear coat on the siding. Thanks for sharing.
Please paint the wall an accent color. Blue/Grey would be good with your minimalist style. BTW.... I just love you guys. Tell Ashley to keep pushing through. Doug, you are doing a fantastic job. Can't wait to see more.
I'm thinking a light stain in blue tint would make the wood texture pop and keep it looking like wood ... but I think you and Belle need to have some fun with this one!
Hi Ashley and Doug! Love the doors! If it were me I would paint it a light or medium gray. Gray goes so well with the blue. Those chickens are beautiful. Great job as always. Really happy to log on and see a video from you guys. You guys have a great day and keep smiling. Does my heart good to see you guys happy! Love and blessings from OHIO
Hey Doug! What accent color does Ashley want to use in her kitchen? Paint the door entry wall that color. My opinion, let Ashley choose, not us!! Great design idea for that Ashley! You guys are doing wonderful work. Love and BIG Blessings to you all.
I think you should go with a light grey. It is neutral, which will go with your minimalism and contrast well with the blue door whilst not being overbearing with the white walls.
* We had same problem with a door, we changed the strike plate out with 1 long strike plate that has both latch holes because we had to really move the holes to line up, longer strike plate can make it more secure with longer screws in door jam. Wow clever chickens!
I like the textured wall and I like the color tan that's showing on it. So I vote tan because it matches your door and it fits in well with all the white walls.
Everyone seems to be saying to paint it gray but I like the idea of making it white to blend with the other walls. That will put more of a spotlight on the door.
Vickie Lynn I agree with the soft yellow to keep it bright and not clash with the door but would also match the wood color of the cabinets from the kitchen. Personally, I think the yellow will keep it brighter in the winter months over a grey color.
Where did you get the siding, it’s it ok for siding a house? I think the color looks good with the color of the door. I love the way you always say we even when Ashley isn’t in the video. You acknowledge that you’re a team at all times. Outstanding.
We got it from Home Depot, but pretty much all other lumber stores sell it as well. Yea, SmartSide a really good house siding, a huge upgrade from the T-1-11 that is made with plywood.
Love your work could you not just put on a clear varnish to protect the wood but not colour it then it will tie in with all your other wood accessories that you have done good to see you again Ashley much love to you all from the UK
I love the door and accent wood around it... I love the white but maybe a gray color would look nice with white and the navy blue door. It looks amazing!!!!!
I love your choice for the wall. Even if you paint it white it will look cool but I vote for a light gray to mid gray color. I think it will look good with the blue door. That sucks this door is messed up too! I would definitely say something. That company's quality control is obviously lacking. Darn chickens just won't cooperate lol! I wouldn't want them close to the house either. Nobody wants to track chicken poo into the house especially your beautiful home. Thanks for sharing another great video!
I guess it depends on what colors you choose for your kitchen. It should tie in. And your lighting in that entry will change the tone. I’ll just let you surprise me. 😂
Love the the wall. The door looks wonderful. wow you & Ashley are getting so much done. You two are so smart with knowing & figuring out how to do everything. Ashley your the best!!!
I would paint the wood around the door white, like the rest of the walls, and let the texture be the accent....that way the rooms look bigger and brighter and not so broken up....but i’m sure whatever you decide will be great, because it will be something you like...and that’s what matters, since you are the ones who live there...and Ashley, you look really good in that olive green color you had on in the beginning of the video. I wish I could wear that color.
I would leave it as is just for now. Wait until you have finished with the other walls, it’s easier to paint than repaint later. I actually like the warm earthy color it is now! Back to the door I think you should report it because some assembly line has got its measurements off and you may help other people buying this door from the same problem. Just tell them I said so !! 😂 love you all ! ❤️
I like the small wall between the door and kitchen. It will keep the artic blast from being quite so severe when one opens the door and someone is in the kitchen.
Thanks for sharing your progress. Very impressive! Good to see you Ashley. You're a good partner for your husband. Don't let the negative ninnies get you down. You two are a good pairing. God knew what he was doing putting you together!! God bless you and your lovely family!!
Wow, wow, wow! So many good comments! How fun. Let's play with color! Gray with a lavendar or blue undertone. Light as the air of a spring day! Like the idea of white trim too. Can't wait to see what Doug and Ash decide on.
Yes!! Make it cohesive! It will already be so different from the rest white paper walls with texture AND colour so make it something that goes along with the kitchen!
Yes, I would say that painting this wall should be one of the last things you do. Pick a color that accentuates a color in your finished kitchen. Perhaps some fabric, tile, or items in your kitchen could also tie back to the blue door as well as the color you choose for the wall. Paint stores have color guides that show what works well together.
For the accent wall, I'd look at a warm white. Something with a yellow undertone because yellow is opposite blue on the color wheel. The navy blue door is so striking. No need to compete with it.
Color suggestion - as this enters the kitchen, would consider matching color to something in kitchen. Don’t know what your plans are for counters or cupboards though so can’t suggest a specific color.
Thanks for the color suggestions everyone! Watch us work on this home from the start: ruclips.net/p/PLB6I6KoGYpp62Z2DQhIXgqBbDsBhDRijJ
A Light Grey Color would be a great accent color with the Blue door.
That's what I was gonna say! LOL.
A light but warm toned grey!! Also make it a colour that repeats itself in the kitchen (decore or backsplash tiles or cabinet doors color)
Exactly my thought too!!!
mila maria agree with that thought too! Repeat the theme to make it cohesive
I agree that shade of blue goes perfect with Grey!
Why not wait until you finish the kitchen and then decide on a color.
This is a good idea wait then decide...
They already have stated the kitchen is going to be white like the rest of the home and the tikes are the same as the bathroom.
I like the idea of a light tan close to the siding color with a scrubable finish. Could put some hooks for coats, scarves, & hats on that built out wall. Also a drain pan to put boots and shoes as you come in. This would be good for quick exit to the backyard.
Mostly wood tones and white in the kitchen :)
carol maimone I think a dusty blue would go well with the white. Coordinates with the door and still bounces the light

A blue gray color for the walls and I just wanted to say “I LOVE ZIP TIES”! The door looks fabulous!

For the accent wall, I'd look at a warm white. Something with a yellow undertone because yellow is opposite blue on the color wheel. The navy blue door is so striking. No need to compete with it.
I think white walls all around looks fresh and clean. 👍
Color suggestion - as this enters the kitchen, would consider matching color to something in kitchen. Don’t know what your plans are for counters or cupboards though so can’t suggest a specific color.
Yes, I agree with this. Tie it into the kitchen decor. Or use the navy from the doors as a tie in to the rest of the house. Or both!
